New late night Mimi session? (97,746) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter So there's this photo that was shared by Mariah's makeup artist showing that she was working late night and there's a whole set up. I then saw another rumor on an instagram page that she recorded new versions of "Breakdown", "The roof" and WBT for this session. I don't know how true this second rumor is. She just released a whole new version of WBT, so I would have preferred another song, but definitely here for "Breakdown" and "The roof". Two of my most favorite MC songs. I would've also loved "Babydoll". Such a masterpiece. "Butterfly" hands down is one of the most beautifully crafted albums in musical history. (Friday 2 April 2021; 18:22)

I am glad we got to hear the "Firecracker" version though since it's the basis of one of the biggest feuds in musical history. Big fan of "With You" though. I think the song is beautiful, has a lot of replay value. She looked gorgeous in the video but the video didn't have a lot of replay value outside of her fans. Not a strong first single though. I wish she'd kick of the era with "A No No" and gotten a hot feature for the remix. ANN would have been an amazing first single. (Friday 2 April 2021; 14:52)

I'm shook that this is such a big deal. It's 1 year. Plenty of people in the entertainment industry probably do it to be more marketable. Also I don't think Mariah ever outright said it's for sure 1970, so she was never lying. Just an omission, which isn't really deceptive (this part is aimed at Andrew claiming she's being deceptive). All the age debate is getting crazy, it's just 1 year, it's not like she's claiming to be 5 or more years younger. Also as a fellow woman, I can relate to girls wanting to kind of hide their age. That's why the whole "don't ask a lady their age" thing comes from. I know it sounds backdated but women do feel the pressure to "be younger" in more ways than one. And I imagine that pressure is more in the entertainment industry. That's my 2 cents. (Thursday 1 April 2021; 00:33)

Mariah featured in a celeb rating (97,664) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter For anyone interested, Laura Lee, a YouTube beauty guru recently made a video inspired by the viral tiktok trend of people rating celebs they've met based on their personality. Laura met Mariah back when Mariah had the collaboration with MAC and hosted this glamorous "girls night in/slumber party" with some beauty gurus. This is the video from 14:18-18:25 minutes she talks about Mariah and has only really nice things to say about her. She talks about how Mariah is like an open book and spilled tea on Nick and apparently answered anything she was asked. Which was surprising because in interviews she's always very good with just not answering questions she wants to avoid. Laura also talks about how Mariah just felt very genuine. There were a lot of celebs she mentioned with whom she had bad experiences but she went all out on praises for Mariah. (Monday 22 March 2021; 12:10)

I may not like it all but I do like it in general. Also please stop with the defence mode, Andrew and I and many others have danced this same dance for years now. My post isn't to tell Andrew to get off the board or stop writing, it's a genuine curiosity to know why he's still invested. I want to know what about her still pulls him to her and be a regular on this board because he has been here for a really long time. If it's not the music, the outfits, the body, the voice, the music or the personality that attracts him anymore then what is it? Jeez. Spare me the witch hunt. (Monday 22 March 2021; 12:00)

Because you liked her in the past? That's no excuse, it's like an ex lover being an aggressive stalker. Or you think writing all these negative things would suddenly impact Mariah's approach to her personal/professional choices? It won't. Then what is it? I think Mariah has every now and then admitted it too. Not only his experience but also he had huge hold during his reign at Sony and he ensured Mariah was top front and centre. I know Mariah hated being covered and singing cheesy songs and also she was kept away from being a "celebrity", but these did put the focus on just her voice and singing. That being said, I want to also bring forward that we shouldn't forget that Daydream onwards had Mariah not taken the steering wheel in terms of what kind of music she made and her change in image, she wouldn't be relevant today. She would have been left in the early 90s regardless of her immense talent. Now she's known as a revolutionary, setting trends and credit for that goes to her. So yes while Tommy played a huge role in the starting years, post 1995 Mariah is the reason she's still considered such a force in the music industry. If she was still making the music Tommy made her write, she would not have come this far. This is also true now when fans complain that she doesn't experiment more with collaborators or music styles and is stuck in her mid 2000s formula. But if someone can mix it up, it's Mariah. I miss MJ so much. A collaboration between MJ and MC would have been a dream come true. I know there were rumours he did background vocals for her on an unreleased song. It's everywhere true, but when you hear the words "whistle register", it's almost always followed by "Mariah Carey". When people say "Mariah" they follow it up by the whole "finger on ear phone, other hand in the air simulating musical note" move that Mariah does right before she lets out a whistle. It's her signature, and an artist always keeps their signature. She's very creative with her whistles, the way she uses it to sing words, express emotions, use it as a background layering, heck even have a whole interlude of just whistles. She's done it all. I love it. I'll be honest, I don't have a lot of ideas about the vocal analysis aspect, I see a lot of fans dissect how her voice changed and what went wrong. As a layman in this aspect of things, I only understand what sounds good to me and one of the first things that mesmerized me when it came to MC was not only her beautiful raspy honey coated voice but her whistle. I've never heard anyone else do it before and as a kid I was awestruck. So her whistles are always special to me. (Sunday 28 February 2021; 02:46)

I thought the word play was funny/cute and I liked the vibe of the song. I still play the original, I wish it had the whistles. "Infinity" on the other hand I haven't played in a while. But regardless yes, I would like Mariah to collaborate with some fresh collaborators whether they are new singers or songwriters to kind of get a fresh sound. I know with the right people Mariah can adapt to their sounds because she literally can do anything musically. All she needs is that inspiration. (Wednesday 24 February 2021; 15:27)

Mariah and Cardi Interview (97,462) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Do I smell a song collaboration in the making? At the very end Mariah asks Cardi if they can do a song together, and she says yes. Now I have to say I'm surprised Mariah did this interview especially since last time Mariah was vocal about wanting Cardi to be on the "A No No" remix and then Cardi declined it. And in Mariah's world I would have assumed that would put her in the "I don't know her" box haha. But I'm glad that Mariah still "knows" Cardi. And from what Cardi said, that she sometimes doesn't like meeting celebs she loves because she doesn't want to be hurt by them and have their image tarnished in her mind forever. So it could be that Cardi was quick to decline ANN because she's a Mariah fan. I'm undecided about Cardi. I like her because she's outspoken and confident and doesn't take shit but sometimes I also find her annoying. But I would be here for a song with MC and Cardi, something that is empowering to women. The story goes that after a night out at a club RuPaul went to a fast food restaurant and someone was about to pick up a bag that didn't belong to them. That's when the employee behind the counter said "she done already done had herses" basically meaning "she had already gotten her bag, this isn't hers". Also I didn't start watching the UK version yet but they once had a Mariah episode in the US version. Where they were told to kind of be like those televangelists recruiting people to join their beliefs and one team chose Mariah, the other chose Britney and I was shocked at how little they knew about Mariah. It was a disaster. The only other time they mention her to my knowledge is during the US all stars season in one episode and I didn't watch that yet. (Saturday 13 February 2021; 14:09)

Usually we have updated videos by Monday and list of EPs, track lists and cover arts released by Wednesday every week before the EPs are finally released on Friday. We got none of that this week. (97,343) (97,344) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I think we can be pretty certain that it won't be released because she really isn't releasing any previously unreleased material. At max we will probably get the Obsessed, UOOMF and Angels Cry remixes (feat. Gucci Mane, Nicki and Ne-Yo respectively) because those were the only ones released. I won't even acknowledge the BGK and IAW remixes on MIAM. Those 2 are the most uninspired remixes and horrible cut and paste jobs. R Kelly's verse doesn't even make sense in the song with contradictory story lines. (Side note: if R Kelly wasn't such a sleaze I would have loved to have the TMB R Kelly unofficial free style on streaming because that's really good but oh well he's a disaster.) I don't know why she chose those 2 out of all options, maybe it fit better with the dark, gloomy and betrayal themes of MIAM but ya completely lack lustre. I do really enjoy the H.A.T.E.U. So so def remix and the Ribbon remix that was leaked and it would have been great to have those but I don't think we'll get it. As for Skydiving I think Liron pretty much said Mariah doesn't have it. Also she was on a different label during MOAIA so that creates another layer of barriers. I will be surprised if she does make those available though. (Thursday 11 February 2021; 22:29)
