And you're getting so worked up on her album not being ready because? I bet you're one of the gremlins who didn't purchase the "Elusive Chanteuse" album. Trust me when I said that woman isn't gonna drop an album in a very very (caps) long time. Maybe not even in this decade.

Honestly I feel the same way too, there's just no comparing "Emotions" to "Mariah Carey". That debut is still the best so far by any (all caps) new artist, point blank period. There's a reason why the album "Emotions" suffered a sophomore slump. It's just bland, dark, headache inducing and has absolutely no personality of Mariah on it, it's just empty. Talk about a snooze fest. It's my least favorite and least played Mariah album. Only tracks worth mentioning are "Can't Let Go", "The Wind" and "Make it Happen". Meanwhile the debut has "Vision of Love" and "Love Takes Time", two powerful, timeless, classics from the same album. Enough said.

No I beg to differ, a lyric soprano and a spinto soprano are two very different voices. The term "spinto" is what's referring to a pushed sound. So when someone is classified a lyric - spinto she has the ability to push and cut through loud orchestration or in modern times, loud music, although it's not advisable because she's not a true spinto. Mariah isn't a light lyric spinto that would be someone like say Ariana, Jessie J or Cheryl Gamble (Coko), her voice is much thicker than those three and has a heft to it. Celine isn't a spinto at all, she's a lyric. Listen to Licia's favorite song "Infinity" (hehe) her voice cuts through on the "dream" part or "Fly like a bird" (her voice is pushed on the "survive" part) and the final belt in "The art of letting go". That's a lyric-spinto. Coloratura just means agile. . Christina is metallic in her belts, too metallic if anything. A mezzo would be Beyoncé and Shirley Caesar.

Exactly my point. Yes her voice was still smooth and the tone pretty much the same, but the quality was diminishing. I still love that album, especially those songs you mentioned. "Fantasy", "Underneath the stars", "Always be my baby", "Melt Away " and " One Sweet Day".

You'll make a terrible judge as a result of your tendency to be sentimental or is it bias? You obviously have an emotional attachment to that album, hence you can't or won't accept certain opinions. The term "buttery" cannot be used to describe her sound on "Daydream". That would be all her albums and recordings prior to "Daydream". By "Merry Christmas", that full buttery sound was thinning out into a more metallic slightly gritty raw sound though still very sonorous at her mix register that's when she projects and yes very effortless, especially in her whistle register. ("Daydream" was when Mariah actually mastered the used of the whistle register.) But her main chest voice diminished noticeably becoming lighter, airier and less dark. Remember that post a trained soprano wrote about "The diminishing of Mimi"? That's what she was referring to. Mariah's voice wasn't like Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera who are spintos, they thrill and cut easily and that's their strength (Christina overused hers though) hers was a heavy dark, buttery, firm and very resonant voice and not as bright. Her constant use of the whistles and singing outside her range is culprit. A classically trained vocal coach I follow on YouTube says Mariah's voice type is a "LyricoSpinto coloratura" soprano. Now that's a complicated voice. Lol. Also "Butterfly" is her Magnum opus don't even go there.

Oh please. Her voice was shot and suddenly metallic on "Daydream" and her vocal delivery was lazy and sleepy on most of the ballads. Not to talk Walter's overproduction especially "One Sweet Day" as if she were singing through another dimension. I really don't like that album as much. Try "The Emancipation of Mariah Carey" instead. (Oh dear *runs for cover*)

Depends on how you define the word relevant? According to my understanding of that word "relevant" a dictionary definition defines it as "of contemporary interest" which she still more than qualifies for.

Or would you rather she retired? Say at the Glitter era and just gave up. Yeah you would've liked that now wouldn't you?

Surely you can't be referring to me. I turned 34 last Wednesday (I may not look it though). I too have been here supporting Mariah for well over two decades. Since I was in my early teens, yes since the 90's. Didn't we all do an age check here recently? I didn't see any babies here. So I have every right to question some of you guys. Bickering and complaining at every chance you get, over issues that shouldn't warrant such. Like you were new fans and she was still in her prime. It doesn't make sense. Grow up. Have you noticed the state the music industry has sunken to lately, this isn't the 90's anymore. Heck this isn't even the 2000's anymore. We're almost 30 years into her career and she has done well by still pushing forward and staying relevant. What is it you truly want from her that all she's done still isn't good enough. Free yourself from that Daydream era time warp you're stuck in and live in the now. Time has moved forward, and so has she.

It's funny how these "tonnes" of fans didn't also purchase the MIAM Album. And so if they're leaving, who cares? Mariah as sure as hell doesn't. Truth is they were never (all caps) real fans to begin with. And Mariah is still yet to disappoint musically, and until she does, I have absolutely no right to judge or even analyze her every move. Mariah has been in this business a long, long time and I believe in her and still trust her judgment. She's smart. Forget all that bickering and complaining about Stella. I personally don't have a problem with Stella. We're still yet to see her prove her worth by managing an album release, and era. And until then, I have absolutely nothing to complain about and so should some of you on this message board.

I'm listening to him right now and thinking Mariah should meetup with him and collaborate. I love his voice, nuances, control and his background vocals (which he does himself too) and I feel their voices match, something real powerful and of quality would come out of them collaborating.

Exactly my concerns, something's off about how suddenly Epic is breaking down with talks of even shutting it down now she has a label tied to Sony/Epic and the one person who has years of experience of running labels, who could be of a great deal of help is suddenly truncated out. Someone somewhere is manipulating and pulling strings and I feel Carey's the target. It's no coincidence.

I immediately thought the same thing too. But didn't want to say it first. Tommy is thirsty and still wants him some Mariah Carey. Lol. He still has loyal people at Sony who can and would do anything for him. He's suspect number one.

The former, fired as a result of MC's new label deal. Reid is close with Mariah and she trusts him. And he's also experienced in the music industry too. The man (L.A Reid has multi platinum albums, singles and hits under his belt) was one of the most important factors in the creation of and execution of "The Emancipation of Mimi" album and era. And not having him in the Epic label picture is upsetting and kinda like when she was back at Def Jam. I'm not happy about this development at all.

This is bad news for Mariah and us Lambs. Especially if she doesn't get along with the new replacement. The reason for even being back at Sony/Epic was solely because of Reid and now he's out it's like back to square one for Mariah. What's gonna happen to her new label? I feel this is a direct attack on Mariah by those industry "powers that be". Could the label deal for MC be the reason he's out?

Haha. I played "Memoirs" in its entirety recently too. It's a solid album and very cohesive. I even prefer it to "E=MC2" and you're right that album is haunting and dark if I were to describe it. Plus she has the ultimate diss song that would ever be written "Obsessed". Haha poor Eminem it's ended him for good. But you know my absolute favorite of all those songs? The one that didn't make the final cut "Skydiving" the sadness, the pain, the longing. Wow. A lifetime story told in just 3 minutes.

Minnie Riperton's "Come to my garden" orchestra and all with a modern take on it maybe. Also an official Stevie Wonder's "You and I" on wax, just exactly how she sang it that night in her lower register. Pure bliss. Her voice is clearer and smoother now so I bet the results would be mind blowing.
