Re: Article: Mariah after midnight (95,302) (95,324) by Bill from the UK The most heartbreaking thing about that article was the reference to her "ex" brother and sister. The Carey household just seems so broken. Even Mariah referring to her mother calling the ambulance when she was attempting to kill herself as a "betrayal". I mean what on earth is a mother supposed to do in that situation? Surely now Mariah has her own children she can, more than ever, understand the actions she took at the time, when in a state of panic. Personally I wanted all the family issues to not be addressed and it solely focus on her musicianship, her songwriting, the meaning behind songs, behind the scenes stories as to how her biggest hits came about. I still hold out hope the book does focus heavily on that. (Tuesday 1 September 2020; 10:27)

Re: Butterfly Bossa Nova Remix (95,276) (95,277) by Bill from the UK For me it's not so much the rarity. I was fortunate to obtain the promo CD in 1997/1998 for not that much money at a record fare. What I like about it is how different it is. By that point, the standard Morales dance mix was becoming cliché, with the usual programmed drums, ostinato keyboards playing major chords, and unaccompanied vocal breakdown. The Bossa Nova was like a breath of fresh air, and it's still never really been bettered for originality. (Saturday 29 August 2020; 20:38)

The three b sides, whilst most of us have them on singles, fans have been screaming for them to be more readily available than they are, especially Slipping Away. Personally I'm looking forward to having them all together. As for All In Your Mind Take 2, I'm holding out hope of a deluxe 30th edition of the debut that will feature demo recordings and alternate takes. Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,257) by Bill from the UK Saw this go by on Reddit. Think the track list is all but confirmed now. The ordering is incorrect here in some cases, but I've seen these titles crop up on most speculative lists. Hypnotized, Can You Hear Me, Crave and the original Loverboy are what I am most excited for. (Friday 28 August 2020; 16:53)

Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry, Can't Let Go, I'll Be There, If It's Over, Hero, Without You, Endless Love, All I Want for Christmas Is You, Joy to the World, Open Arms, and Forever are all EP-less singles currently. No remixes were commissioned for Vision of Love, I'll Be There, If It's Over, Without You and Forever, so that makes sense. Open Arms and Hero only had their Spanish versions. However, Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry, and Can't Let Go had radio versions released on the singles at the time. Up until now I haven't included Love Takes Time's single version on my list because it is so barely different it is probably just a different mix rather than an official alternative version. For those interested, the version released on the UK commercial singles pushes the whistle register at the end of the bridge way into the back of the mix, whereas on the album version it is much more prominent. I'm hoping the Christmas tracks have their own EPs soon. I agree a Vision of Love EP with the live versions from Thanksgiving, MSG and the Medley from the debut album would have been good. Butterfly EPs and recap (95,250) by Bill from the UK Hi all. Everyone set your faces to bored, it's the return of Bill's Weekly Remix EP Recap. I'm also going to start including track times where applicable to help differentiate remixes. The main highlight is of course the Butterfly Meme club remixes, which were previously only available on South American promotional CDs. They were mega rare and also unbelievably expensive whenever they appeared for sale on eBay etc. When I hit hard times I reluctantly sold my copies (Mexican and Brazilian variants). I was heartbroken, as I knew I'd never likely possess them again, but I was £1,800 better off lol. I was also very glad to see Breakdown get its own EP, as I was worried it would be skipped due to there only being two remixes - nice to see it fleshed out with the album version, which we all love. There were also some vinyl-only remixes that are now available to stream and download in clean, crisp quality: Honey (Def Rascal Anthem) Honey (Def Rascal Dub) The Roof (After Hours Mix) The Roof (Bass Man Mix) That said, unfortunately there have once again been some omissions from the EPs. Only The Roof and Breakdown were fully in tact. Honey Smooth Version No Intro (4:25) The Smooth Version with Intro (4:47) was released commercially in a number of territories across a number of formats. The No Intro version was only available on a handful of promotional items. Given MC has been releasing promotional-only remixes (Underneath the Stars, Butterfly etc.), I'm surprised this wasn't included for completeness. Butterfly TV Track (8:44) TV Track Short (4:21) Sambatterfly (8:26) I was so, so disappointed that these three were not present on the EP, as they will likely never now be available to stream. The Samba Edit (4:44) and the Samba For Clubbers (8:28) made it, so why the regular Samba version (8:26) didn't is a mystery. The Mexican promo CD (PRCD 97251) contains all three. I can only suspect it was deemed to be the same remix due to the track length being the same as the For Clubbers version. The TV Tracks being missing is also quite frustrating for completists like myself. Again, my suspicion is that they were thought the same as the Radio Instrumental and Instrumental club mixes, but they are of course different. The TV Tracks are on the Brazilian promo CD (899.500). My All Full Crew Main Mix Full Crew Main Mix Without Rap* Full Crew Main Mix Instrumental* Only one of the Full Crew remixes (the Radio Mix) has been included. The Main Mix was available commercially on a number of releases, so I can't fathom why it never appeared. A real shame is that the Without Rap and Instrumental versions were promotional, vinyl-only remixes, so my dream of owning Mariah's entire remix catalogue digitally has now been shattered into a million pieces. Mi Todo Original Version Version Por Una Noche Mas Version Mi Fiesta Por Una Noche Mas En Los Clubs Por Una Noche Mas Instrumental I'm holding out hope these will be included at a later date alongside the Spanish Versions of Hero and Open Arms. These are great mixes, that are also very hard to find, so a bit of a blow to not see them this week. The only commercially available version is the original, and that appears on a very scarce Mexican single (CDMIX 658685). The remixes can be found on the Mexican promotional CD PRCD 97427. Below is the running log of missed remixes. Hopefully the Merry Christmas ones will appear nearer the festive season. An asterisk* denotes the remix is available only on a vinyl release. Re: Save The Day (95,169) (95,171) by Bill from the UK I'm not sure if you're talking about real critics, or people on this board, but personally I'm not a fan of Whitney and Amy, so I don't comment on them, nor did I ever read up on their personal struggles, though I knew about it. The troubles those two faced were much more public than anything Mariah has ever done. Like many here, we raise these issues because we were there at the beginning and have witnessed the decline and, due to our love for her, it concerns us. I want Mariah to be around for many, many years. I want her to keep making great songs and being the soundtrack to my life. If anything ever happened to her I would be heartbroken and devastated. We know Mariah indulges in both, the latter somewhat excessively. According to Morgan, the split from Tommy is what started those vices, and that was when her voice noticeably changed. The only time it seemed to sound better from the decline was during MCIIY. Presumably she stopped, or certainly reduced, those recreational drugs when she was expecting the twins. If they are re-sung it will be like the monstrosity of Can't Say No. Though I do fear the Carey/Margulies composition will be the GMA 2020 version of Vision of Love, and that one of the Carey/Afanasieff ones will be the GMA 2020 Close My Eyes or that odd Hero remake she did when The Ballads was released. I don't mind Do You Think of Me and Slipping Away appearing as they are "real" b sides, however Everything Fades Away isn't exactly a rarity considering it was on every version of Music Box as the closing track except the American editions. Mariah Carey re-issue (95,111) by Bill from the UK Hi all, the debut album is being re-issued on vinyl on October 2nd. Lucky US fans can buy a translucent green edition exclusive to Walmart. I hope the vinyl is pressed on 180g. This got me thinking. Given The Rarities doesn't have much 1989/1990 content based on what we've seen so far, how cool would it be if accompanying the vinyl release, MC re-issued the album on CD/digitally with all the demos and other material from that time (i.e., All In Your Mind alternative take). If Mariah did that, she would well and truly be one of the most generous and giving of artists, to allow us access to all that stuff and for her to be around to see us all enjoying it.
