Remy vs. Nicki (73,935)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
So I was late to the party, and just found out Mariah actually does watch Wendy Williams's show (even though she refuses to go on it lol) because it was Wendy who suggested Mariah hook up with Remy just to spite Nicki. My problem with this scenario is, it does come across as Mariah trying to use the situation for relevance, she should've stayed out of this beef (you're music royalty Mariah, not ratchet and classless like those two, act as such). Secondly, the remix isn't that good either. The comments on Facebook are brutal.

Re: What Mariah should have learned from Whitney (73,915) (73,933)

It's the recordings on wax that live on forever and get rediscovered by generation after generation, even long after we're all gone ("All I want for Christmas" for example). Anything after that is just extra. And Mariah's smart and knows that. Not live performances, nor television appearances. 10 years from now the television programs of now won't even be remembered.

The Emotions "Untouched" album (73,859)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Growing up, I loved this album and wore out the vinyl playing it over and over again. Lol. So you can imagine when I heard "Dreamlover" and that unmistakable sample from "Blind alley" it was an instant hit to me. Listening to the album now, I definitely hear the vocal influence they had on Mariah, and even an influence on song structure and vocal performance. Shout-out to "Show Me How" that's my favorite from the album. Ok Mariah, an Instagram post of you singing "Show Me How" would make my year.

Mariah Carey : a vocal powerhouse (73,858)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

This article has to be the most misleading write up anyone could ever come up with. Reading that title, I thought it was going to be an indepth analysis of her voice and vocal technique. Instead it was one chopped up, badly written and organized summarized article. It feels like the writer was either drunk, zoned out or did it on purpose.

"Faded" from MIAM. That song had hit written all over it and actually stands out from the rest of the album. Even non fans and most people who have heard that song take an instant liking to it. Oh well, missed opportunity there. Another would be "Migrate" from E=MC2.

How many of you guys know of this app? It's a karaoke app, where you make an audio or video recording of yourself singing to the soundtrack of your favourite songs. Duets and group collaborations are also popular. It's relatively new but has caught on real quick. Even real recording artists have accounts there already (Ed Sheeran) where you can sing duets with them. Hey Mariah you should have an account too.

Releasing singles (73,635)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I have a feeling Mariah is going to go all out with this singles only, no album release plan she has going on. Remember the songs we heard of back in the day that never saw the light of day? "Alive" the rumored song written with then producer Seven Aurelius, "Reach for the sky", the new song with Dianne Warren from 2015 and many more might finally be released. Now that would be an epic treat for the Lambily.

Re: If you could (73,391) (73,428)

20 year old Mariah would not have been able to sing [...] because she had tension in her chest voice back then, a certain restriction where she couldn't sing up there comfortably in the 5th octave kinda like how Whitney, Chaka khan and Aretha could. So [...] would've sounded very, very strained. But over the years Mariah has developed her chest voice and abilities to be able to sit up there and sing really high, hard and belt powerful sustains (We Belong Together, Mine Again, Stay The Night).

by Terna from Nigeria

I see they're still trying. Just a few words. That sacred gift Mariah possesses is true. It has never, can never and will never be laughed at nor made fun of. I don't care how many conscious efforts are made nor shade articles written to slander her and try to force it subconsciously into our minds that she's nothing and doesn't matter, that attempt is dead on arrival because we know better, and that is that Mariah Carey is no clown, nor any adjective even remotely synonymous to the words "joke" or "laughing stock" or any other word that denotes being one to be laughed at. Never.

"Mariah is now very unlikely to add to her tally or even be nominated ever again." Something tells me she's fully aware of that and isn't bothered at all. Hence the remark.

The Grammys comment (72,842)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Mariah has every right to diss the Grammies after they blatantly tried to make a fool of her twice (all caps). Some of the comments I've read on here pertaining this issue are just unreasonable and downright dumb. We are all humans and when someone wrongs you on purpose twice, it's normal to react a certain way, matter of fact it is expected to react a certain way. The Grammys dissed Mariah in a major way in 1996 with 6 nominations and no win, turned around again in 2006, gave her 8 nods for TEOM and she got only 3 wins which weren't even televised (meanwhile the very next year, those same categories were televised), shutting her out of the big three major categories. That's like throwing her crumbs and saying "Sorry Mariah, your work isn't worth our recognition enough to garner a win on the main show." And you expect Mariah to be "gracious" about it? Really? I hope she says [censored] the Grammys next time she's asked.

I Don't on Kimmel (72,740)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I was kinda worried how she would translate this song live, seeing as it's a song that doesn't really have a distinct catchy chorus and melody line the audience could sing along with. It's one thing singing in the studio but then another when it's time to present live. But I was pleasantly surprised she nailed it. It's better than the studio cut. Her voice was in good form especially her chest tones very firm, dark and smooth. And the cackle when YG was doing his verse made me cackle too. Lol.

Re: Grammys (72,703) (72,708)
by Terna from Nigeria

Those other two songs you mentioned were far from what you would refer to as a hit, they were lukewarm at best. "Ironic" carried that album, same as Adele's "Hello" carried 25. And compared to Daydream's singles, all those songs pale in comparison. And get your facts straight too. "Daydream" is a diamond album too. If I sound like the president of the United States of America - Donald Trump I'll take that as a compliment.

by Terna from Nigeria

Exactly my point. You get it. Alanis today is irrelevant and is only remembered for Jagged Little Pill and moreso only the song Ironic. Mariah is so much more than just one era or one song. She has the most distinctive, successful eras, with classics from each one of those eras that will last forever. One fell by the way side, and the other soldiered on into greatness and royalty. There's no comparing.

Re: Grammys (72,675) (72,698)
by Terna from Nigeria

"At that point she made one h*ll of an album." So did Mariah: "Daydream". An even bigger hit than "Jagged little pill" which only had Ironic the song that carried most of the album. Mariah 3 monster hits "Fantasy", "Always be my baby" and "One Sweet Day". The latter of which still holds a staggering record up until today. Plus the other two with their own equally impressive record breaking firsts (Fantasy's debut at No.1). So anyway you wanna spin it, Daydream was the bigger and better album. And no Mariah doesn't need an acoustic version of Daydream.

Re: Glitter or current era - worst of all time (72,649) (72,653)
by Terna from Nigeria

|

You must've not experienced that Glitter era first hand. That era was everything bad, Mariah had been blacklisted passive aggressively by the industry and written off. It was cool to hate on Mariah, you belonged when you hated Mariah. And everything she seemed to do automatically went wrong. A lot can be said about that time, but I'll keep it brief with just this example of Usher saying in an interview "I'm having a Mariah Carey today" he used her name as an adjective for a bad day. Smh. So this era doesn't come close, trust me.

Grammys (72,648)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I didn't even bother with the show nor performances, Adele as usual swept through the roof with wins as expected (blah). She's still no Mariah Carey, never has, never will. To me the Grammies lost all forms of respect, and credibility the moment they robbed Mariah of her 6 Grammies. Where's Alanis today? Exactly my point, meanwhile the rejected one (Mariah) became the best of the best, a living legend (and the voice of a generation) with a body of work she can firmly boast of as the best that industry will ever see. I'll take that over any Grammy trophies anyday.
