About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: Andrew (95,065) (95,073) by Bill from the UK
Not that I ever wade in on this stuff usually, but since when did not liking a Mariah Carey performance mean you have a mental health issue? Get a grip everybody.

Re: I got some tea (95,051) (95,066) by Bill from the UK
Definitely, they are the writers of the song and to the best of my knowledge the only time Mariah wrote with Mark Morales. I can't wait to stream Do You Think of Me. I know Slipping Away is her most notorious b side, but I always felt DYTOM was the better track.

Save the Day (95,064) by Bill from the UK
I would have preferred the Butterfly era remix EPs but hope they make an appearance next week. But I can't complain. Mariah is releasing lots of great material for us and it is appreciated. Save the Day isn't terrible, but it isn't one of the best either. In fact, much like Crapfinity, it could be the one blip on the compilation album. I do love Lauryn's sample though.

Re: Rarities album (95,047) (95,049) by Bill from the UK
I didn't know Martin Denny wrote Firecracker. Maybe the one I've mentioned is a different Martin Denny. But, wow, if we finally hear the Firecracker version of Loverboy that would be amazing.

Re: Rarities album (95,034) (95,047) by Bill from the UK
Okay wow good discovery R-A. Here's what I can deduce.

2. Can You Hear Me
3. Do You Think of Me
4. Everything Fades Away (probably)
7: Slipping Away
8. Lesley and Michael Gore were songwriters from the 60s/70s, do assume this is a cover.
9. Okay mini heart attack. Martin Denny is a lounge musician who was known for tiki bar music. I have several of his albums, if Mariah has used one of his songs for the base of hers this could be brilliant.
11. Same writers as We Belong Together. Maybe a remix or alternative take.
12. MC most notably worked with Loris Holland during Merry Christmas, mainly on arrangements though.
13. Lullaby of Birdland (this was written by Shearing and Weiss, and was on the original tracklisting of The Art of Letting Go and performed by MC on the Elusive Chanteuse tour)

The fact there are several Carey/Afanasieff compositions is exciting, but knowing past compilations and the "fan favourites" line on the website, these could easily be Hero, Butterfly, Close My Eyes etc. So I am trying not to squeal too much.

I really hope the Carey-Margulies composition is either an unheard song from the debut era, or a demo. But, again, could easily be a "fan favourite".

I'm a bit disappointed there isn't more Carey/Margulies content, as this indicates the CD does not contain any demo songs from those early days.

The Rarities content (95,016) by Bill from the UK
MC's website has the following to say about the album: "The Rarities is a compilation of fan favorites, rare songs and unreleased gems, all hand-picked by Mariah herself. In addition, the second disc is the never before released full length audio from Live at the Tokyo Dome, Mariah's first concert performance in Japan in support of her 1996 Daydream World Tour."

I really hope the "fan favourites" is a reference to the Daydream concert, and that she doesn't turn any of the first disc's 15 tracks over to Close My Eyes, Breakdown, and Butterfly. Unless of course they are different or remastered from the originals.

I'm hoping the rare songs are the B Sides that have been available on singles - Do You Think of Me, Slipping Away etc.

I am most excited about the unreleased gems of course. Please be demo songs. I am so desperate to hear the 1989 recordings or the demo versions of the first album. Mariah always said she preferred them to the finished version.

Friday 21st (95,009) by Bill from the UK
I wonder if MC will release the Butterfly EPs alongside Save the Day, or if she will instead save them for another week. Either way, glad to be getting a new song tomorrow.

Re: Lauryn Hill (95,000) (95,008) by Bill from the UK
Yes I've also heard it samples Killing Me Softly by the Fugees. That was a great song.

Re: The Rarities (94,972) (94,990) by Bill from the UK
If the new album does indeed feature the demos either before being signed or the demo songs recorded for the first iteration of the debut album, then a more fitting title would have been "Chrysalis", for the whole pre-Butterfly theme.

But saying that, it goes with the theme of other compilations: The Ballads, The Remixes, The Rarities.

Going from the GMA interview the album will be a good accompaniment to the book. Also I must say her performance of Close My Eyes was beautiful, and I loved how she changed up Vision of Love during the instrumental break.

Okay so MC just Instagrammed that it is out October 2nd. Amazon have it listed and it contains a new 2020 track called "Save the Day", the Tokyo Dome Daydream concert, and 14 other songs.

It feels like I'm dreaming, but I'm not sleeping.

Re: Rarities this Friday #MC30 (94,951) (94,956) by Bill from the UK
I am in shock. Please everybody join me in prayer for Can You Hear Me and others (demo songs). I am so excited for Friday now. I'm excited for every Friday but even more so now. I might have to book the day off work lol.

So apparently "Mariah Carey is reportedly readying a new compilation album titled The Rarities, which will feature unreleased material, including demos and b-sides. She also has plans to drop a new single with Lauryn Hill this Friday."

Mariah is on GMA on Wednesday 18th so perhaps she will mention this all then. I am beyond excited. Deffo booking Friday off now to spend my day with the compilation.

Hopes for Butterfly EPs (94,920) by Bill from the UK
As promised, below are my hopes for the Butterfly remix EPs, should MC choose to carry on the trend. Butterfly was plentiful with remixes, some very, very rare ones as well. It would be great to have these available for all to enjoy.

*Denotes vinyl only release

Honey:
1. Bad Boy Remix
2. Smooth Version With Intro
3. Smooth Version No Intro
4. Classic Mix
5. Classic Instrumental
6. So So Def Mix
7. So So Def Radio Mix
8. Morales Club Dub
9. Mo' Honey Dub
10. Def Club Mix
11. Morales Dub
12. Def Rascal Anthem*
13. Rascal Dub*

Butterfly:
1. Meme's Extended Club Mix
2. Meme Club Radio
3. Meme Latin Beats
4. Meme's Extended Club Mix - Parts 1 &2
5. TV Track
6. TV Track Short
7. Instrumental
8. Radio Instrumental
9. Sambatterfly Edit
10. Sambatterfly
11. Sambatterfly for Clubbers
12. Classic Bossa Nova

All of the above remixes are incredibly rare and only available on two hard to find (and hard to afford) South American promo CDs. That said, they are fantastic mixes, especially the Bossa Nova. I have separated out Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise), but given it is only two mixes, presumably this will be grouped with the Butterfly remixes above, should they be released.

Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise):
1. Fly Away Club Mix
2. Def 'B' Fly Mix

Breakdown:
1. Radio Edit
2. The Mo' Thugs Remix

Only two remixes for Breakdown - a shorter Radio Edit, and then a stretched out Mo' Thugs Remix. It would be a shame if these didn't appear as The Mo' Thugs Remix is quite enjoyable with the extra verses. As Breakdown was technically a double-A side with My All (in the US at least), here's hoping they are affixed at the end of the My All EP.

The Roof (Back In Time):
1. Mobb Deep Edit (AKA Radio Edit/Mix)
2. Mobb Deep Remix (AKA Remix with Mobb Deep)
3. Mobb Deep Extended Version
4. Full Crew Radio Edit - No Rap
5. Full Crews' Club Mix
6. Full Crew Club Mix
7. Morales Radio Mix
8. Funky Club Mix (AKA Morales Funky Club Mix)
9. After Hours Mix*
10. Bass Man Mix*

My worry here is the similarly titled Full Crews' Club Mix and Full Crew Club Mix will see one of them not make it onto the EP (much like the Make It Happen Radio Edit that wasn't on the EP because, I assume, it shared the same title as the edited LP Version as was subsequently overlooked).

My All:
1. Classic Radio Mix (AKA Classic Radio Club Mix, Morales Classic Radio Mix/Edit)
2. Classic Club Mix
3. Morales "Def" Club Mix
4. "My" Club Mix
5. Def Club Mix*
6. So So Def Remix (AKA JD Remix)
7. So So Def Remix Without Rap
8. So So Def Remix Instrumental*
9. So So Def Remix A Cappella*
10. Full Crew Radio Mix
11. Full Crew Main Mix
12. Full Crew Main Mix Without Rap*
13. Full Crew Main Mix Instrumental*

Okay so lots of explaining to do with this one. I am unsure if the Def Club Mix is in fact, one of the Morales Club mixes. It has only be issued on one promotional vinyl release, and could have easily been mis-titled when pressed. The Instrumental and A Cappella of the So So Def Remix are, again, only found on one promotional vinyl release, which doesn't look official (white label), so I doubt they will appear.

Mi Todo:
1. Original Version
2. Version Por Una Noche Mas
3. Version Mi Fiesta
4. Por Una Noche Mas En Los Clubs
5. Por Una Noche Mas Instrumental

I have separated out Mi Todo from the My All EP. I really, really hope these mixes are released. I know the Spanish Versions of Hero and Open Arms have (yet) to be issued, but given the treatment Mi Todo was given at the time, by having some club mixes commissioned for the release, it would be brilliant to see these very rare mixes available to stream and purchase.

I'm debating with myself whether to include the #1's era with the post, but this message is already too long lol. As always, if anything has been missed, please let me know.

Re: EP recap (94,913) (94,919) by Bill from the UK
Sorry all, an update to my original post.

In the Mariah Carey grouping, I should have also included the Radio Edit for I Don't Wanna Cry, apologies. This was only available on the US promo CD and, I assume, has not been released for the same reason as Can't Let Go's radio edit - no other remixes to accompany it.

Also, goes without saying, but the Merry Christmas era was skipped presumably because it is August. That said, many of the remixes for that album found their way onto the deluxe edition of Merry Christmas released last December, albeit there are some omissions.

I'm unsure where/if to group Endless Love. It is my favourite Mariah duet, and a gorgeous song. No offence to Lionel and Diana of course, but Luther and Mariah are much better singers and inject so much warmth into their recording.

Remixes for Endless Love:
1. Instrumental
2. Mariah Only
3. Luther Only

Very unlikely for these versions to be released during the celebrations, especially the Luther Only version as, well, there's no Mariah on it lol.

Thank you Xavier, I'm glad fans are finding it useful and it feels good to put my knowledge to use for a change haha. Oh, why did my brain decide to retain information about Mariah Carey remixes over algebra lol.

EP recap (94,913) by Bill from the UK
Hi all. I'm going to bore you all to death with an EP Recap series, so brace yourself. I think only about 3 people will be interested in this, so skip over if not your thing.

Missed remixes:

Mariah Carey:
Medley

Suspected reason: not really a remix per se, and it was horrendously edited together.

Emotions:
Can't Let Go (Edit with Intro)
Can't Let Go (Edit without Intro)
Make It Happen (Extended Version Radio Edit)*
Emotional Rescue Medley

Suspected reason: no other remixes other than the radio edits were made for Can't Let Go (to my knowledge). The edit with the intro appeared on all single releases, the edit without the intro (begins at the "even though I try" keyboard after the opening chords, otherwise the same as the commercial version with the removed whistle note at the end) was only present on a promo 7" and a promo mastering CD, so may not have even been an official edit intended for release. Therefore, with no other remixes to accompany it's not really feasible to release an "EP" with one track lol.

*This may have got missed as it was actually titled "Radio Edit" alongside the edit of the album version. This is however a shortened version of the Extended Version. Whoever was compiling the EP may have seen the same remix title in parenthesis and assumed them to be the same. Potential oversight?

I am unsure whether the Emotional Rescue remix medley that appeared on some promo vinyls in the Emotions era is official or not, so may not have been included for that reason.

Music Box:
Hero (Spanish Version)

Suspected reason: MC will include this on a future "B Sides" EP along with Can You Hear Me which I have to mention in every post.

Daydream:
Fantasy (Puffy's Mix)
Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Mix)
Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Dub)
Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Acapella)
Open Arms (Spanish Version)

Suspected reason: Open Arms, same reason for Hero's Spanish Version. As I mentioned in a previous post, the Puffy's Mix of Fantasy is identical to the Bad Boy with ODB remix, albeit an echo/some reverb is removed in the rap verse. Understandable.

As for Always Be My Baby, I was wondering if the Reggae Soul mixes couldn't get clearance. They very obviously use an (uncredited?) sample from Pass the Dutchie by Musical Youth, so maybe they could not be released for streaming/purchase for legalities. I can't see any other reason why they wouldn't have been included.

I'll continue this when the best batch are released. I bet y'all can't wait.

Daydream EPs (94,901) by Bill from the UK
Okay, so it looks like MC has slipped Merry Christmas which I thought might happen. But hopefully shell continue the celebrations for the rest of the year and Merry Christmas will get its moment.

The Daydream EPs are up. Absolutely brilliant that Underneath the Stars and its brilliant Drifting Remix is finally out there for the world. Very nice surprise to see this Sweet A Capella version of UTS that I had never heard before.

I'm disappointed Always Be My Baby is missing the three Reggae Soul mixes. Particularly as the Reggae Soul Acapella was a vinyl only release.

Fantasy and One Sweet Day are both in tact though which is great. I love the Chucky's Remix of OSD, one of her best.

Re: AYNAF (Soul Convention Remix) video (94,893) (94,896) by Bill from the UK
For the longest time I was saying how HTHAS at GMA was 1991, due to the Can't Let Go video hairdo, but everyone kept insisting it was 1994. The arrangement is different (and better) to the version that ended up being recorded.
