Hey C, Mariah Carey has 19 number 1 hits (106,794) by Shezz from Pk The way Taylor Swift is going, her momentum and her die hard fan base (that buys half a dozen version of her albums and singles with the slightest variations) she seems to be a hot contender to take over MC's number 1s tally (now at 12). With the chart rules as they are now, it is not as important for the entire general audience to love a song for it to go to number 1. Swifties alone are enough to make her new songs debut at n1 - which used to be such a big feat in the 90s - case in point Fortnight. It's not a great song. 3-4 more albums and she will sadly cross MC's tally and she churns out an album a year.MC's number 1s are a great accomplishment no matter who finds them forgettable and who finds them memorable. I hope she gets to keep it. She loves the title and as a long time fan I love it too. Previously Rihanna was hot on her heels but then she decided to go an extended hiatus. And analyzing and perfecting things can sometimes take away from the original idea. I also think when you analyse something over and over something that isn't that great from the start can almost feel better after becoming over familiar with it. It's like when a song is released from her that isn't that great and after a while you learn to love it as you have become over familiar with it. It's sometimes easy to confuse abuse with tough love/care especially when she has been primarily living with Pat the whole of her childhood. It has since been replaced by "Espresso". Muni Long remix (106,399) by Shezz from Pk I love your optimism and enthusiasm Robert Anthony. The remix is supposedly dropping next week (insider). I don't quite see the original on the Hot 100 as they only show top 20 positions. RA when did this song hit its peak? Is it falling right now? I don't want it to be another "Yes, And" situation with her hopping on to a dying song and it only going to the lambs. Apparently it will be sent to radio next week, maybe Def Jam might just put some weight behind it. I love her collaborating with these current female singers but I wish they were original collaborations and not remixes of old songs. Although the Weekend's "Save your tears" remix with Ariana came after nearly a year and that did so well. I think Mariah is trying to warm the general public up with these collaborations before hitting us with MC16. The lead single I think will come atleast 2 months after this release now. Turned out to be the Muni Long one. Here are another couple of interesting things they are claiming: 1. The Audible BFL session is a prelude. She's managed a contract with a streaming giant for the rest of it finally. In another post they said Vevo is teaming up with a great female artist for a special series of performances. 2. Mariah x Ariana (again). Not sure whether it's for BFL or MC16 (if true). I think we have some interesting times ahead - 2 of which are confirmed, the Muni Long remix and the Audible session. The latter surprises me more because even though Mariah hasn't consistently been a fashion trendsetter, she has been iconic in more ways than one and I've seen people with less accolades be on the cover multiple times. I would have imagined she would have been on the cover either during her 90s peak or her TEOM/Einstein era. As for the Met Gala, how attendance works is it's $75k per person ticket or you can book a whole table for $350k plus Anna needs to approve the guest. Mariah is usually smart with her money so maybe she never wanted to shell out so much? Also what frequently happens is the designer buys the whole table and picks celebs to go with them, so I'm surprised Donatella and D&G never took her since they're such good friends. Alaia and Karl too. Lastly I think Mariah might feel like the Met is too much pressure for her. She does often feel insecure of being photographed in an angle she can't control and the Met is the biggest red carpet of them all so she might not feel up to the pressure that comes with walking that carpet. She isn't the only A lister never to attend though - Britney, Brad, Angelina, Meryl Streep, Ryan Gosling, Jen Aniston etc also never attended. At no point did anyone put them in the same category, in fact quite the opposite, it was mentioned multiple times that Taylor is majority hype vs talent while Mariah is the opposite so it almost seems unfair. But to your point Taylor isn't where she is just because she is current. There are plenty of current talented artists who haven't reached her level of impact that we've seen from her in the past 2 years. People, including big publications, are even scared to write anything negative about her. All that being said, let's give credit where she's due, Taylor does write her own stuff and hardly uses that many co-writers. She wrote whole of "Speak Now" by herself and lot of tracks on her current album has her solo credits. She's no Beyoncé changing one word and then getting credit.
