I thought Mariah and Derek's relationship began before the writing and recording of Butterfly?

Dedicated is an ode to the golden age of Hip-hop. I totally forgot about Candy Bling. However, Candy Bling can't be about Jeter since she sings: "Wish I can bring you back like the O.D.B Thinkin' about the whirlpools Me you and Jack No matter what I do All the memories are stacked Thinkin 'bout 10th grade Thinkin 'bout 11th Then you went Dougie Fresh All the way to heaven"

Maybe it's the experimental beat and his adlibs.

Again, I was referring to the beat not Mariah's lyrics or vocals. Guess I should have been more specific.

The beat sounds like an Aaliyah beat from One in a Million, in my opinion.

I'm just trying to figure out which version they sampled? Was it the ballad, Fly Away, or one of the Morales remixes.

The beat just reminds me of an Aaliyah beat, does anyone else get an Aaliyah vibe from the beat?

The Roof, Lullaby, For The Record, and Giving Me Life (86,778)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
The Roof Every time I feel the need I envision you caressing me And go back in time To relieve the splendor of you and I On the rooftop that rainy night
Lullaby I don't wanna spend my life Thinking what it could've been like If we had another try (one time) Like back in the day
For The Record 'Cause when I'm looking in your eyes Feels like the first time Give me one good reason why We can't just press rewind I don't wanna spend my life Thinking what it could've been like If we had another try (one time) Like back in the day That look on your face Feels like, the first time
Giving Me Life Giving me life and it's everything Thinkin' 'bout when we were seventeen Feeling myself like I'm Norma Jeane Here in my arms is where you should be
Each song is about Mariah reminiscing about an encounter with a former lover. The Roof, Lullaby, and For The Record are a trilogy as they're seemingly about the same encounter. Giving Me Life could be about the beginning of the romance, maybe that's reach but I don't care, lol.

Does anyone else think that 8th Grade sounds like an unfinished song/track that Timbaland was working on for Aaliyah and decided to give it to Mariah because he knew she could do it justice? Giving Me Life, 8th Grade, and Caution are my favorites and I think they should be singles because they're not typical Mariah Carey songs/singles. Giving Me Life needs an amazing video featuring Eddie Murphy as his character from Trading Places. 8th Grade needs an Always Be My Baby video treatment about a dramatic 8th Grade relationship with Mariah either not appearing at all or if she does as the grown up protagonist reminiscing about her 8th Grade first love while walking the halls of her former middle school. Caution should be similar to GTFO but with a story line.

Re: Why Mariah Carey is getting mom shamed (86,739) (86,754)

I though once the child reached a certain age or weighed a certain amount they didn't jave to use a booster seat or a seat belt in the back seat. I guess laws differ from state to state. At least Mariah didn't leave Roc on top of her SVU or drive with him on her lap like Britney did, lol.

Does it say which version of Butterfly they sampled? Runway is one of my favorites. It's an empowering anthem and only a legend of Mariah's caliber can sample herself and make it work.

Why Mariah Carey is getting mom shamed (86,736)
by B from USA

Really? People are shaming her because her kids weren't wearing seat belts in the backseat? I never wore a seatbelt in the backseat and even rode in the pack of a pickup truck, lol. These people need to get a grip. It's not that deep.

I think Mariah was wise to avoid ballads on Caution. Every ballad she releases is automatically compared unfavorably, deservedly or undeservedly, to We Belong Together. You're Mine (Erternal) had lyrics that had universal appeal that had could've connected with millions of listeners but Rodney Jerkins unfortunately provided Mariah will a beat that sounded like a Carey/Dupri collaboration from 2005/2008.

I've always considered Mariah vocal peak as being from 1994-1996. From Merry Christmas and Daydream. I think sometime between the last date on the daydream World tour and recording and promoting Butterfly Mariah experienced a vocal issue like Adele and Sam Smith did.

Didn't Mariah sing like that before Brandy debuted? Please, explain exactly what a Brandy styled vocal/vocals sound like?

The Stereotypes, who produced Stay Long Love You, also produced Bruno's That's What I Like. I hope Mariah works with them again. I also think Stay Long Love You should be released as single.

The fireflies line is so MC, doesn't she even sing about fireflies on Runway? To clarify this is my opinion and is not fact based. It's just based on listening to Mariah's albums for the last 23 years.
