This is so strange because I think the Music Box album cover (CD version, not the half face cassette many of us had at the time) really is the best at capturing her beauty. It isn't airbrushed to within an inch of its life, it's not trying to be sexy, it's not legs akimbo or arms behind her head. She's not blue. It's just Mariah, in all her understated, timeless, classic beauty. So odd you feel it doesn't do her justice. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.

You were right and I did stop reading after number 2 initially before composing my list. But having now revisited, how come Music Box is so low? It's just her lovely face, and she was appaz paying homage to a picture of Marilyn Monroe in a similar pose. It's such a classic look and why I currently have it as my picture. The cropping was pretty horrific on the cassette though.

Butterfly's cover will always be the eyes closed version for me. As Andrew said, this was used for the first pressing in the UK, and it is beautiful and so much more elegant than the eyes open version.

We all have different tastes and several members on this board have a special allegiance to Charmbracelet, much as others do to her other albums. I don't really cast any of Mariah's albums as "the best" or "the worst". I play some more than others of course, but at times I can go weeks playing one album and its remixes only, and fully be back in that "era". It depends on my mood most times, and Charmbracelet definitely has a mood and a time and place for it to be played. Daydream and Music Box, both filled to the brim with her biggest hits, are easy to pick up and play through. Charmbracelet is a longer album, with a polarising vocal approach, and home to one of her worst songs ever (Boy). That said, it's a pure R&B album, that wasn't after any commercial success. There was nothing calculated about it, it was more a "I'm still here" album that I genuinely believe she intended as a stop gap record for the fans to enjoy. It's not an album I play whilst ironing or cleaning the bathroom, but one I clear my schedule for, tidy the house up, pour the wine, get the lyrics out, and relax with. And I have to say I don't find I do that with any of her other albums.

You don't mean the Off the Wall sample? That's Michael Jackson's groove, not Mariah's.

Frozen was a good song. The rest of the album tried too hard. Never listened to any albums that followed. Always thought she was overrated.

Haha, well that's something. Last Kiss is the best song on E=MC2, I was so glad for the snippet she sang on IG. I wonder if she has anything planned for the debut's anniversary? It's right around the corner.

I would hope Charmbracelet is next to be shown some love. It came and went with a bit of a whimper, but there are some brilliant songs buried on that set. Lyrically, I rate it second to Butterfly. Vocally, I do appreciate the approach she took to the record, but I do have to be in the right mood for it. But tracks like Through the Rain, The One, My Saving Grace, Subtle Invitation, and I Only Wanted really shine.

Great remake. I used to love that this was a "tour exclusive" in the early days. She should bring it back.

The point that is being made by others though, is she's tilting her head and it's not really that big a deal. Let's move on.

Head over to Mariah Network, check out the gallery, pick the early years. Literally every photoshoot she ever did has her tilting her head back in at least one shot. Come on now, I know you're a harsh critic who cares deeply about her, but keep it to her music and career choices and not her appearance. If she's self conscious of her weight let's not pull her up on it.

Well I'd respectfully challenge that and say there are a plethora of pictures from the pre-divorce years (both first and second) where she is tilting her head. Meaning, when she was a lot younger and weight maintenance wasn't an issue like it is for us oldies. I think it's either how she was coaxed to pose back when she starting having professional photographs taken, or she genuinely believes she looks good. Who hasn't re-taken a selfie or begged a friend to delete a picture taken because you thought you looked awful? And when the rubber hits the road, she's tilting her head. I mean there are worse things she could do surely.

Yes I tend to agree. When a picture is taken of Mariah Carey, it's there forever. It's not like you and me where we can delete them or rip them up (for those of us that remember physical photographs). If the head tilt works then tilt that head beeyotch.

Haha. Oh Licia. I was confident you'd "get" The Roof when you gave it another shot not that long ago, but alas, it wasn't to be. Would you try The Wind again? She sings it so softly and gently, and it's so moving and sad. I love the jazz vibe, and why she's never done anything like it since is beyond me. It's a real unique number in her catalogue.

The Loverboy video is one of my faves. I love the bright colours and the cars and the flags. All against the backdrop of that sapphire blue sky. It looks amazing. Each shot is a postcard.

Hmmm. I suppose the C&C tracks haven't aged that well, as they were a victim of their early 90s production standards. The ballads however I think have never sounded so organic and spacious. They really open up and let Mariah's voice be front and centre, and create a wonderful atmospheric mood. Music Box is much more finely tuned, perhaps a bit too much. But we love all the albums.

Emotions is so underrated. My favourite after Unplugged and Merry Christmas. Her vocals are astonishing and it houses the best ballads. So moving and atmospheric, especially the closers Till the End of Time and The Wind. I've never encountered a fan who doesn't love TTEOT.
(Looks at Licia.)
