Last summer Dreamlover was played on the radio randomly and I. Freaked. Out. I said a few posts ago that all you ever hear in the UK is maybe one Mariah song a week, and it'll be either Hero, Without You, I'll Be There or Endless Love. Unless of course it's Christmas time. But when I heard Dreamlover I couldn't believe it. I was really hoping the DJ would pass a comment on the song, but it was just sandwiched between two other songs so she never got a call out.

Re: AYNAF unreleased video (93,205) (93,207)

AYNAF is my favourite from Music Box and I always loved the final (and remix) video. I do think the final version better fits the theme and the song and it was the right move, but I'm so intrigued with this shelved one. Up until yesterday, I thought her only shelved videos were the original Vision of Love and Underneath the Stars. She of course looks amazing as usual and I am so enamored with the castle/princess vibe.

Wow, what an amazing find (exclamation mark). I had no idea there was a whole shelved video for AYNAF, this uncovered version looks so interesting. I agree, it'd be amazing to see it properly, and UTS of course. Thanks so much for sharing.

Love that. I wish Emotions would get airplay in the UK as it is probably her best vocal showcase ever. Because hearing Mariah on the radio is a bit of a novelty here, it is always special when one of her songs is played. I stay in the car to see what comment the DJ says afterwards, and I don't know why, but the songs always sound better and brighter on the radio. Must be that magic they add lol.

I'd rather see what her and Ben Margulies would come up with these days. There was a freshness to their songs and, with Walter, you sort of know what you're going to get. All the Carey/Margulies compositions were unique and different in their own way.

If that is to be the case, then we need to bring back Hat-riah. Keep the breasts covered, show less skin, keep it classy. It really is time MC hung up the glittering leotard and embraced the strong, confident, accomplished, revered legend that she is and has rightfully earned.
I always thought her look was best in 1996-1998 when she was earth toned up with her make up. It suited her colouring perfectly, enhanced her naturally big features without going down the clown route, and complimented her hair style, whether dark or light.

Agree. It would have been good had she done so during the #1 to Crapfinity residency, before she sung Thank God I Found You. As that song was just the chorus, it would have been good to flesh it out with the Rainbow interlude, which led onto TGIFY on the album.

Some minor corrections.
Endless Love reached #3 and Heartbreaker #5. But yes, she generally did better with other people's material than her own.

She re-recorded AIWFCIY for MCIIY, Hero for The Ballads, and Can't Let Go for Can't Say No.

It's a different story in the UK. At best, adult contemporary stations will play Hero, I'll Be There and Without You. Maybe Endless Love every five years. That's it. Then AIWFCIY gets played everywhere all December long. So I guess it balances out.

Haha. I think it's the usage of the word "Chick". But I'm That Chick(en Leg) is a great re-title. Up there with Crapfinity. I'm a big MJ fan as well, so on paper it should work, but the weak lyrics, silly title and general embarrassment of it all is what causes me to dive for the skip button when it comes on. I think I made a playlist that axed it and replaced it with Heat and it flows much better.

Yes, in Mariah's "Her Story" biography by Chris Nickson, it goes into some detail around Dreamlover and the original sessions and Walter wading it to make it more suitable for top 40 radio and give it that Summery bounce it has. Both iterations are good, but I have to give WA credit (I know we don't like doing that here ever since emblazonedgate). He did a great job of taking that song to another level and really lifting it up.

They're logged in my Excel workbook of life. I log every single film, book, TV series, album etc. that I watch and listen to and rate them accordingly. I need help I know. PS I was at the Daydream concert in London.

Yes but Walter produced it and was specifically bought in to give it the gloss and much needed sheen the original was lacking.

I heard the Bam Jam Soul version was from the original mixing session (along with the Club Joint Mix), and that was what Dreamlover was originally conceived as. It didn't fit with the album and was a standalone track, so Walter came in to turn it into what we know now.
