About Matty from Vancouver Canada:
I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.
My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.
My Least Favourite album is Music Box.
My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

Thank you Jamie. That was such a thoughtful and understandable response. That's how I've seen and understood it tbh. Much of the UK don't understand or relate to her post Butterfly. I personally didn't relate to Mariah until Charmbraclet (I was in grade 11 at the time). I remember Mariah being the hottest artist in my grade 9 year (from a Canadian perspective), which was Heartbreaker era. Before that she was "Mom's music". Then when I went to uni, everyone was obsessed with TEOM album, and then during the E=MC2 era every queer club in the country was blasting Mimi. After those impressionable life moments, me and my friends have been buckled in for the ride.

UK Lamb (104,551)
by Jamie from UK
| |

The UK loved early Mariah, they just didn't like the whole transition from vocalist to diva. Obviously I'm not speaking for myself as I've continued to follow Mariah. I just think for the UK in general they didn't get the transition. I think she lost a lot of mature adult fans from Butterfly onwards.

I want to ask an honest question. What does the UK Lambs need or want Mariah to do? I lived in the UK for four years. Mostly on the Welsh border by bishops, as well as London proper (your train system is the best in the world as of my experiences tbh). Why are you UK guys so hard on her? And if I hear "1993-1996, please, I maintain Mariah's most artistic, expression and performances were post 2002 , consistently". What I see Mariah from 1988-1996 is her doing a job. From 1997-present, I see an artist. If her voice broke? Who cares? It's park of her human journey, that makes her so relatable.

by Matty from Vancouver Canada

I'd give it a 6; she looked happy, healthy and nervous. But most of all she looked like she was having a blast. Why is anyone expecting her to be a lightning bolt or prancing around the stage? That's not her gig, never has been. The most dancing she's done was in the Glitter club scene. So demanding that Mariah needs to boot it around stage, just like "fetch", it's never gonna happen, so enjoy how amazing she is in all her other talents. Of which Mariah has many.

I agree, I don't know what performance some people were watching. You might want I to check with your wifi supplier and your speed connection. All the vids I've seen on social from people that were there is so cute, dynamic and fun. She was engaged with everyone from Ariana and JHud, to the musicians. We can finally put to rest the rumour that Ariana and Mariah haven't been in the same room.

She even says "Wow" to one belt by JHud. Lol She's not that mean to her after all. Well, seriously, do you think Mariah's vocals are all live? Take a look at 1:37, for example, or the whistles and belts at the end. I don't know. Well, I think I must stop analyzing the performance. Jajaja.

Emotions formula (104,317)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I would 1000% agree with all saying that Emotions is the superior album, far and away. The debut sounds so dated in 2023, where as Emotions has a pure timelessness to it, plus one of Mariah's more unique album art (meaning not just a close up of her face, or in a power stance).

I'll just say this, between those two records, one is on the cusp of being certified Diamond - her third if I might add, while the other still has a long way to go (the numbers never lie). There's a reason why "Vision of Love" and "Love Takes Time" were the songs chosen for the tribute - they are instantly recognizable classics (even in that time), that have stood the test of time, the kind of songs seasoned songwriters would kill to have to their credit, written by a then 19 year old a testament in itself and can only be found on the most stellar debut ever by an artist - Mariah Carey.

Who is Jack Harlow? (104,233)
by Bobby A from United States

Jack Harlow is popular today because of his song What's Poppin went viral on Tik Tok. Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez, and Da Baby jumped on the remix and reached #2 on the Hot 100. He got a Grammy nomination and XXL Magazine named him apart of the 2020 Freshman class. His new song Lovin On Me is a R&B sample of 1995 Cadillac Dale's song Whatever (Bass Solique) and it is another Tik Tok viral sensation.

The sound of MC16 (104,219)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I have always wanted a full on Disco album from MC. I love the idea of a Jazz album that many have brought up, or, and hear me out, a Country inspired album. I'm not a huge Country fan necessarily, but something in the vain of Kacey Musgrave like Right to Dream and Help Me Make it Through the Night would be gold. Willy Nelson could co-produce with Mariah.
Also, if any label would release a "Greatest hits: Gospel Mariah" with So Blessed, [I wish you well], [Fly like a bird], Heavenly etc. I'd purchase it on vinyl.

Never sung in her life (104,164)
by Norman from USA

|

I believe his point is that you guys regurtitate the same complaints every other week and think you're going to change something. It's been how long since Daydream? And you all swear you're the only ones who like her because you tear her to shreds.
And, no, asking a singer to sing isn't a big ask, but expecting 1995 or 2000s vocals isn't going to happen no matter the critique.
Being at the Hollywood Bowl nights was such a great experience as a fan because it packed with people who were there to have fun and enjoy the show. And enjoy it we did. It was a blast to interact with people who had never seen in concert and enjoyed what was offered and how it was it offered. The energy when she did a medly of part of her catalog was at fever pitch. It was heartening. And as people left, you could hear everyone discussing her voice and how well she did and wishing more of this from her.
Having a discussion about the status of her current voice is one thing, and she's not above reproach, but enough with same critical drag and calling it love. No need to gaslight. We've read them for years and know abusive language when we read it.
It's okay to only like her 90s stuff and nothing past that. Admit it and move on - you'll all be happier. But no need to constantly bash every effing move and call it constructive when all it is, is tearing things down.
Oh, and before anyone comes out with pejorative "yass queen" rebuttal, no one is asking for you to be that. No one. You can have fun on the board without punching down. It's reductive.
Now, joy to the effing world or whatever. We mostly love everyone.

Never sung in her life (104,158)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

Ok critical lambs, you've exposed it. Mariah has never sung in her life. She's a studio creation. She can't sing, she's never performed live, the only Mariah that was real was 1993-1995. Adele, Celine, Ariana, Beyoncé never ever lip. . I've gotta ask (especially the "I wish Mariah was frozen in 1993" from the UK commenters), why can't you just enjoy Mimi's magic and success? I get we all have our favourite "Mariah moments", but all those with the opinionated stance that nothing beats Mariah between Music Box and Daydream is tired. Mariah's best, most emotive moments are post Charmbracelet.

3 biggest feature shames (104,097)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

I love the Westlife version of Against All Odds and would have taken them over the 98 Degrees boy band colab with TGIFY. Westlife didn't fully land in Canada, so maybe it's because it was one of my only real exposure to them that I like that version so much.
Instead, I'd like to suggest When Christmas Comes with John Legend. I love that feature and video so much, it's everything Christmas to me and should have been the version of MCIIY. Plus John is so darn cute especially playing on the keys.

Can Mariah beat The Beatles? (104,096)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|

I think Mariah could absolutely best The Beatles, but I remember her saying in an interview years back that she's afraid to eclipse their standing because people would throw a fit. She mentioned things were already heated enough when she surpassed Elvis. If Mariah got credit on BBE, and her feature on Unforgettable with French Montana were the main, standard versions, plus Migrate being single 2 from EMC2, and Loverboy Firecracker version getting a proper push, she'd be there.

I think she can, if she want to. The Billboard Hot 100 points are so low. It's only consistently high during the Christmas seasons, which is a Mariah season. So if you're doing the math if Mariah actually wants to take it with a really good song, she can. I can't wait for the Usher collab. Maybe that will do the trick.

It's a darn shame that the following tracks didn't have the features included on the official album versions: 1) UOMF - Nicki Minaj 2) Whenever you call - Brian McKnight 3) Against all odds/Take a look at me now - Westlife
There are a few features I could have done without on the album release, these three are ones I wish were included on the official album release every time I listen to the respective albums in full.

Brad, we're back to the classic divide with this board. I wasn't being snarky at all. It's a trend that's existed for 30 plus years and Mariah is implementing it. I was not being a b*tch. I felt your comment came across as judgement, over something that's been normalized for years. I'm sorry you took my response personally. People want MC to be relevant, and when she is, she's criticized for not being Mariah from the '90s.

7 songs one billion streams (103,923)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

What are some of you talking about that MC pays dust to Daydream? Fantasy, ABMB and Hero are Mariah's most over played song on radio. Fantasy is my personal life anthem, but you can't turn on the radio without one of those three songs playing, that's why no one needs to stream them, they are over played in the main stream. It's like Papa Don't Preach by Madge and Toxic by Britney, why would you stream them when they are constantly playing in every grocery store and drug store? Touch My Body and Obsessed are also creeping up in the over played roster. Mariah has so many master pieces, I wish the mainstream would diversify her music on radio and other public forums.

I still say Daydream was the most perfect album title that Mariah has named. On the outside "looking in" she was on top of the world with money, fame, prestige, the looks and the voice. Yet behind the scenes with the all the mess that was going on and falling apart in her personal life, all the external "happiness" truly was just a daydream.

Einstein re-release in 2009 instead (103,699)
by T from USA
| |

We all know the tragic story of E=MC2's trajectory after the first single, the disappearance of Mimi and then the re-emergence in depression. In hindsight, with the lack of commercial success she's had since (except Christmas), one really can look back at the mistakes made like not releasing Migrate as the second single and think it was her last big change at commercial dominance. Would've a re-release like she did with TEOM made a big difference? Would it have sparked new life for the album? Imagine Obsessed was the fourth single from a repackaged album. I think I would've taken that over MOAIA.
1. Migrate (ft. T-Pain) 2. Touch My Body 3. Cruise Control (ft. Damian Marley) 4. I Stay In Love 5. Side Effects (ft. Young Jeezy) 6. I'm That Chick 7. Love Story 8. I'll Be Lovin You Long Time 9. Last Kiss 10. Thanks For Nothing 11. OOC 12. For The Record 13. Bye Bye 14. I Wish You Well
