Re: Mariah loosing a lot of fans (75,520) (75,528)

If Mariah doesn't want another flop album under her belt, releasing it soon won't be a good idea. She needs a major image overhaul. She needs a good marketing tactic, something Beyonce's team is really good at. She should take several notes on how Bey's team handles everything, from the visuals to the performances to the release of the album itself. Her last two album campaigns have been impeccable in execution. She also needs to back her reputation up with consistently good performances. If she wants to lip, lip away, but make sure to use new pre-recorded tracks instead rehashing the same old tired recordings from the 90's and 2005. If things go on the way it's going right now, her career would still decline rapidly.

My problem isn't with the amount of skin Mariah is showing. I believe that a woman's self-respect is not determined by the amount of skin she is showing and I don't mind if she wants to show skin. But the problem is the style of clothing she chooses to wear is really unflattering and weird-looking. The new black top looks super weird and doesn't flatter her in any way possible. I'm being redundant but hands down Idol era Mariah was slaying in every single way possible, fashion-wise. Mariah needs to go back to that era.

Sighs pt. 2 (75,512)

My biggest fear as a lamb used to be Mariah slowly fading as a force on the pop charts and only having audience in Adult Contemporary formats. Now that situations seems like a land filled with butterflies and rainbows compared to this mess.

Basically every song in Charmbracelet and Glitter were like that lol. I disregarded them for so long because of the negative feedback both albums received from the public and fans, and at my first listen of both albums, I only liked bits and pieces of them. Now I can't stop playing Glitter and Charmbracelet.

When will Mariah's career stop going to the wrong direction? Like hell, this era is a comolete and utter mess. I'm not even gonna talk about that "FBF" IG pic. At this rate, I doubt that this next album would crack the top 5 of the Billboard 200.

It changes with my mood, tbh. But currently, the list would look like this: 2. Troye Sivan 3. Beyonce 4. Twenty one pilots 5. Lana Del Rey 6. Tori Kelly 7. Whitney 8. Aretha That's based on their songs and albums alone. For live performances, the list changes again, but the important thing is, y'all know who the number one is.

Re: Selena Gomez's "Bad Liar" / fresh sound (75,360) (75,361)
by darrian liu from taiwan

Good for You and Hands to Myself are really good. Super minimal production yet still manages to highlight her voice - which isn't really there to begin with, but the song just works with her limited voice. They also have such nice hooks and sound really cool and smooth. Selena Gomez somehow reminds me a bit of Troye Sivan, an artist with a pleasant-sounding voice, but not that much power or technique behind it (except that he actually writes and produces his own material, unlike Selena Gomez). His songs also manages to enhance and highlight his voice really really well, and I just absolutely adore his album Blue Neighbourhood. If Mariah wants to try a new musical direction, I would want her to come up with a song with a vibe like this. Not necessarily the exact same, but a smooth, edgy, midtempo song with a touch of electronic, combined with Mariah's signature R&B/Hip-Pop sound, and with simple, catchy yet poetic lyrics, will guarantee Mariah at least a top 40 hit if promoted well.

The best live rendition of Hero has to be the Tokyo Dome 1996 Hero performance. Still gives me a giddy feeling every time she goes for the climax in that performance.

Butterfly. Obviously the other two are masterpieces which held great significance in her career, but Butterfly was just her heart poured out into a beautiful melody. It's her true emancipation; when she finally lets everything holding her back go. It's so deeply emotional and so poignant, it's just plain incredible.

Mariah and LA Reid (75,253)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
Tbh, I think Mariah is relying too much on her back catalogue and past successes. It's maybe one of the reasons why her output lately is so sloppy and subpar to her previous releases - she just probably thinks she could get away with those messes (a good chunk of MIAM era, MW, etc). She has to find that fire back if she wants to regain success. Her "manager" isn't helping as well by being the ultimate leech-enabler hybrid. And now that LA Reid is out of Epic, there's a good chance that she could be dropped (it really depends on this upcoming album imo, if she doesn't gather her shit together it would probably tank). If she doesn't wanna be dropped, musical experimentation isn't just a good thing, it's a necessity. She needs to update her sound, up her style game. (Her being on the heavier side is actually no problem to me. People, especially from my generation, are becoming much more accepting to various body types and champion body positivity. She just needs to choose more flattering styles, something more classy and exudes effortless sexiness.) Up her vocal performances (SSFT quality vocals on big TV shows/events would bring so much good press), and up her promo game. And all those won't happen with 1. Mariah being in this little bubble and 2. Stella. I swear, the day Stella gets kicked out of Mariah camp along with her people, will be one of the happiest days that I'll ever have as a lamb.

I love this version of #Beautiful, feels like a song that would be played by the campfire, while roasting marshmallows and singing underneath the stars. It also has this country vibe to it which complements Mariah's voice nicely.

I would love for Mariah to do this for an album tbh. She would sound so gorgeous. I think the songs that would sound amazing when stripped down would be: Ribbon Last Kiss Love Story DFAU When Christmas Comes YME (I've heard acoustic covers of this and it just sounds so warm and romantic I can't) Thanx 4 Nothin' Side Effects Bye Bye I Stay in Love Ugh I'm seriously petitioning for an AcousticRiah era.

MIAM is a solid album, no doubt, but it has more filler songs than Emotions. There are shining moments in MIAM, like Cry, Faded, Meteorite, Make It Look Good, YDKWTD and others but Emotions is a more consistent album. MIAM also didn't quite reach the heights Emotions reached (The Wind is pure genius). Different opinions, I guess, but I don't see the resemblance between MIAM and Emotions.

What? Sunflowers For Alfred Roy is such a gorgeous song. When I first listened to CB, I wasn't listening to it properly (skipping left and right) and I threw Sunflowers into the "skip" area. But then I listened to CB in its entirety and realized how beautiful the song is. I put it in the same group as Petals, Languishing, Rainbow interlude, etc. I love the song so much.

Albums (74,918)

I think I posted a similar thing to this a few months ago, but I've recently listened through Emotions and Music Box in its proper sequence, without any shuffle or cherry-picking songs, and I fell in love with Emotions. It's such a stunning album, from the vocals to the lyrics. Music Box, however, didn't do really much for me. I think it was a bit too saccharine and a bit too watered down for me? (Hides from the incoming bricks thrown at me.) I've also finally listened to TEOM in its proper sequence, and surprisingly I also didn't really like it. Now, I love the songs in TEOM when I listen to them one by one, like stand-alone songs, but strangely, when put together in its proper tracklist, it didn't do much to me. It's almost the opposite for Charmbracelet for me, although to a lesser extent. I enjoy the songs in Charmbracelet, but feel like they sound better as a whole in its original sequence. (I'm still obsessed with Glitter and don't know when it would stop.)

Finally That's What I Like crowns the Hot 100. I'm sick of seeing Shape of You on no. 1, it was annoyingly cute at first but it's just plain annoying. I'm happy that a song with actually great vocals tops the Hot 100. And JR, I also noticed how there's a lack of female artists in the top 40 currently. There's only one female artist in the top 10 currently and the artist is just a featured artist. Mariah could definitely make another comeback, with Gaga and Perry struggling, and with Bey still pregnant. The thing is, she has a really long way to go. She needs to retrain those vocals to at least 2004/2005 quality, hire a new stylist, fire everything and anything related to Crustella, and take some time off to freshen up, be inspired by things again and rethink about her career. Not to mention the damage repair she has to do to be likeable in the GP again. I think she could score a top 20 hit, with the right collaborators, or at least R&B hits. Also, wouldn't it be a great idea for her to include acoustic unplugged performances in her promo cycles (again, I'm being redundant)? It would re-establish her as one of the top vocalists in the industry.

Mariah's fashion (74,879)

I thought I was the only one thinking Mariah is somehow morphing into Stella with the leather jackets and tight jeans 24/7. I feel like her fashion choices are so off lately, I mean compare this era to the Idol era. Ugh. Stella is a toxic influence. When will Crustella finally be fired? Should we make another petition?

I feel like Mariah working with JD stifles Mariah's creativity. That's why I want her to try produce everything herself in her upcoming album, or work with an entirely new set of producers. I'm being redundant but Mariah desperately needs an update in her sound.

Unless the partner consents for an open relationship, that's not ok. I mean, who goes banging around while being engaged? Cheaters. So by your logic, anyone who isn't married is still single. That means whoever is in a relationship that isn't marriage, like boyfriends, girlfriends, fiances and fiancees, can still sleep around, grind around, go flirting with others and it's ok because they're technically "single"? What?

Lol forget about naming it "Mariah's World". It should've been "The First Vision of Crustella" or "Here Is The Bulochnikovs". "Bulochnikov Family Values", "13 and Boozin'", "Booze-Ups with the Bulochnikovs", etc, etc, the list goes on. Any more suggestions for a more fitting title for Mariah's World?
