It's probably this awkward because it's supposed to be funny, it seems forced. Her best acting has always been in more dramatic roles (Precious, The Butler).

That would be great. That's kind of what Michael Bublé did with the song, right?

To comment on what you said about LA, his remarks might have been for a couple of reasons: 1. He truly believes it, and I personally don't think that Mariah releasing an American Songbook album is a bad thing (she has the perfect voice and tone for it now). 2. He was trying to not oversell it, in case it didn't work out with her next album/song. Which it didn't. This way, if she does score another #1, it will have a much bigger impact. 3. Not about the remarks, but about handling Infinity. She had plenty of live performances around the release of Infinity, and you can promote it all you want but if the song's no good, then nothing else will ever happen to it. If she had wanted to release "Why You Mad" she could have just posted it (depending on what's in her contract, of course). Or "leaked" it. Or just finally time it right so the video drops at the same time as the song. Especially since Jussie Smollett is in it. Has anyone else noticed that some of the biggest hits lately came out of a video release first? Adele, Missy. And to be honest, Missy is kind of in the same category as Mariah in the sense that they're both "past their prime" (I hate that phrase, but bear with me) but still the best at what they do.

That would actually be a good idea, after missing another PR opportunity with this Hallmark thing. So many people in my environment are now slowly but surely admitting that they're starting to like JB. And before the blind lambs come at me for the Hallmark remark: yes, everybody lipped. Yes, it's been acknowledged by other artists in the parade. No, the general public isn't going to care after last year's fiasco. Yes, the general public is unfair towards Mariah. No, that doesn't mean that she doesn't have to do something about the criticism if she ever wants to be a commercial success again (she's had recent critical success, it just hasn't translated to commercial success).

I hope so. Busta is talented. I don't know why she insists on working with these mediocre rappers (and I'm being nice here). First French Montana, now Rick Ross. What's next? A good move would be to work with Missy again.

"Thirsty" (57,776)
by Sarah from Netherlands
| |
|
|
I'm getting real tired of a lot of people here bashing Nick. And I'm gonna list all the reasons why. (1) Yeah, they're getting divorced. Yeah, there's rumors and hints as to why. But does anyone know for sure? No you don't. (2) Suppose your friend breaks up after a long relationship and you start discrediting the now-ex immediately, including comments like "I never trusted him", "he's trash" etc. You completely neglect the fact that at some point, your friend really loved and chose this person. Don't invalidate the good stuff with disrespectful comments like that, it doesn't help. Chances are your friend will only feel worse about it all or doubt your sincerity since apparently you didn't feel the need to speak up earlier. (3) He's still the father of their children and that should be treated with respect. A bad husband (again though, that's an assumption) isn't necessarily a bad father and vice versa. It had to be said.

Mariah's been saying for 2 years now (!) that she wants to do a re-release of MCIIY. Mariah is one of the few who knows exactly how the industry works. Also, Andrew, jazz is a lot broader than improv instrumentals. Calling jazz "boring" kinda goes to show that you don't really know what jazz is about. Some of the world's best vocalists were jazz singers. That being said, Mariah doing Great American Songbook tracks with a soulful twist to it would be good. Let's not forget she produces, too.

Tea (53,770)
by Sarah from Netherlands
| |
|
|
Nope. Tea is after you serve somebody with cold hard facts, usually something that they're in denial about. But since it's got nothing to do directly with you, you don't really wanna get involved too much. That's why the full line is "Ain't none of my business, it's tea though." In another context it can mean gossip, but not in Mariah's song.

Webmaster, thanks for the addition. Then that's a new development, because they used to say records. These days I don't even really read the press releases anymore since they copy/paste it so much. I just skip to the "news" part of the articles.

So, I don't reply a lot here, I just read along. But let's clear something up: Mariah's PR always states over 200 million records, not albums. So that includes singles. That's all I had to add. [Webmaster: Maybe that's what they mean, but it is not what they write. "She has sold over 200 million albums" and "more than 220 million albums sold to date".]

Matthew / You Give Good Love (40,660)
by Sarah from Netherlands
| |
|
|
You Give Good Love was released before Mariah's debut. That being said, Whitney was so huge and they were so often compared to each other, it has to be an epic cover. Otherwise the media will destroy it.
