The art of photoshopping (39,604)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
What's the point of doing that kind of cover, it's so photoshopped that I barely recognized her lol. Photoshopped is art? Well not in my universe. Hopefully, there is good music hidding behind this, that's the only thing we are expecting from her anyway.

Emotions (39,510)

A great album! I'd love her to make an album with the same intensity and maturity in the lyrics and in the emotions.

Joanne and new abum (39,179)
by Sasha from Nomansland

I'm glad to find someone who enjoys them too. Regarding her next album, I do think she postponed it because she has issues with her label. She may release something (not a new album) by the end of the year, but only to fullfill her contract and then leave for Sony and put out her new album.

Almost Home (39,172)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Almost Home and Hate You are great songs? I know it's only a matter of taste, but I dont understand how a song like Touch My Body can top the charts (I think it's a boring and childish song) and not these ones.

Music Box (39,170)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
I became a fan with Music Box and even though this album is a little bit too commercial, it contains masterpieces from my point of view: "Anytime you need a friend" and "Hero" (they really conforts me when I'm low), "Without you" (favorite song ever), "Everything fades away" (it's got a haunting feeling) and finally "Never forget you" (incredible vocals and melody). Forgettable songs for me are most of her Hip Hop collaborations, though I enjoy some of them, but I just dont like when she wastes her talent by playing green plants next to rappers in her videos.

Memoirs (39,018)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
From my point of view, Memoirs is a far more better album than its predecessor, because at least there is a homogeneity between the songs and the sound is more mature. I might be the only one who don't like E=MC2, but for me this album is kind of a melting pot of everything and nothing, no cohesion in it. I felt exactly the same about Rainbow. That beeing said, I think Cruise Control is a great song and could have been a big summer hit.

Voice and choice (38,558)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
I think she never wanted to be known as the singer with the big voice and if she had the freedom to be what she wanted to be at the beginning of her career, she surely wouldn't have sang and written all those ballads she's known for. She would probably have made only rnb and hip hop songs. It was easier for her to take care of her voice when she was with Mottola, because she had no social life and music was her only escape. Now she is trapped because people want her to be what she is not and forced to sing songs that don't reflect her as a person. I think she's just doing now what she would have done since the begining if she had the choice.

Don't you think that (38,486)
by Sasha from Nomansland

|
|
Don't you think that Triumphant, Almost Home, Beautiful and its thousand different useless remixes were just released to test the water for her upcoming album? Just in order to see what type of sound could work the most?

Ahah (37,980)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |

How smart she is, keeping the explicite version under her sleeve and then releasing it to get extra download lol. Mariah may be judged, criticised or praised sometimes wrongly or rightly, but at least she left nobody unaffected. She is the one who holds the reins of her career, so whatever the good or bad moves she makes, at the end of the day she is the one who will get the benefits or pay the price.

Hard to believe (37,926)
by Sasha from Nomansland

A singer of her level had to cut and past together different live performances to create the perfect performance? On a singer competition show where she was herself a judge? I must be dreaming please, why do things always have to be so complicated with her?

New video (37,801)

I didn't know Miguel, but I really like his voice and he looks great in the video. Mariah... is Mariah and she's just doing what she does the best in her videos. I don't expect anything anymore from her when it comes to her videos, actually I avoid watching them since Loverboy, because I really do think they ruined the songs most of the time. Anyway, the song is great and it was a smart move singing it with Miguel. I really hope her next album will be in the same spirit.

Go back to more simplicity (37,460)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
If a Rhianna is able to reach the top with her horrible songs and awful voice (thanks to Jay Z), well there's nothing great about being a part of this crapy music industry. Number 1's doesn't mean anything anymore today. As Mariah has nothing to prove anymore, why doesn't she go back to something more real, basic, underground ? There is a real and authentic audience who's hiding there. No more artifices, complacency and superficiality, only voice and emotions, I'm sure she could benefit from more simplicity. I do think she lost most of her credibility because of her image and diva style. The girl needs someone to help her walking around because her shoes are too high and she wears too tight clothes she can't barely move or breath, it's getting ridiculous. Lord knows I miss the time when music what only about talent, emotion and voice.

Paul (36,735)

As you said, Mariah had the recipe for the success, but I think it's mainly because she had at the time one of the most powerful music company working for her and was married as well with a powerful business man who focused all his attention on her and her success and knew exactly what to do to put her at the top of the charts. Of course she's talented, but without the "right" crew at her sides she can't make miracles. It seems now that she's working only with friends and people she trusts, which I can understand after what she went through with TM. There are a lot of talented poeple on earth who will never be known or famous and other so-called artists who make a lot of money only because they are around smart people. I'm not saying that she owns her success in the 90s to TM and Sony Music, but I wonder if she would have had the same career if she had signed a deal with another record company. What do you think?

Enwar - Without you (36,475)

It has exactly the same effect on me. I became a fan because of this song when I was a little girl and although I listened to it a billion time, it still moves me. It's Mariah's magic.

First song (36,194)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
I felt in love with her voice when I heard for the first time "Without you". I was 9 or 10 at this time. This song will always have a special meaning for me and although I listened to it a billion of times, it still gives me the goosebumps. My mother tongue is not English so when I was young I didn't understand the lyrics and I couldn't stand it so actually I can say that Mariah makes me want to learn English. I remember spending my evenings trying to translate her songs in French. Even if I don't understand all the choices she has made these last years, I'm still a fan and will always be. It's funny to think that it's been twenty years that I'm listening to her songs, I feel like they are a part of me and of my history.

Just a thought (36,090)
by Sasha from Nomansland
| |
|
|
I think the major problem of Mariah in her career is not her music but her image. That's why she never got the credibility she deserves and people or even fans get tired of her. Well that's just a thought. I may be wrong but that's what I feel. Triumphant is quite a nice song, I mean I heard worst from her these last years. Still waiting for something more mature though.
