Epic was never going to promote Infinity or I Don't. The fact that both singles charted on the Hot 100 with no support from Epic and limited promo on Mariah's behalf is impressive. Besides, Mariah is no longer relying solely on Epic for support, she has Roc Nation backing her. I think a Top 20 hit on the Hot 100 and a Top 5 hit on the R&B chart is possible.

I think Mariah's going to give us an up tempo single like Honey with a Weeknd-esque beat. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for. Mariah's announcement in People has generated a lot of buzz and if she delivers a strong single with a decent video she could easily score another Top 20 hit and set the stage for another comeback.

Brenda, is that you? In all honesty who cares what Brenda thinks that Mariah owes her? Mariah covered her biggest hit and took it to new heights and Brenda has been bitter ever since.

Agree. Listening to Aretha sing Amazing Grace (and Bridge Over Troubled Water) is like a religious experience.

Ariana and Christina both released singles that failed to catch fire and continued to release singles hoping one would eventually catch on but it never happened. Ariana has never recovered from Donutgate, lol. I don't follow Tamia's career so I don't know what happened there. However, if I had to guess I'd wager she did so for the same reason as the aforementioned artists. I think Mariah is going to release an "aggressive" uptempo song as the first single from her new album in the vein of It's Like That, Migrate, I'm That Chick, or Side Effects. I think Mariah will release her new album within weeks of the release of the single or on the same day, with no warning.

Aretha Franklin (83,382)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah posted a heartfelt tribute to Aretha on her social media accounts. FYI, after seeing Mariah perform Carole King contacted Mariah asking her if she would be interested in covering (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, a song she had written alongside Gerry Goffin for Aretha Franklin and Mariah politely declined feeling uneasy about covering a song one of her musical influences executed so perfectly.

If Mariah participates in a tribute to Aretha she'll most likely talk about how she was influenced by her and about performing with her on Divas Live before singing Chain of Fools.

I've always loved that song and the video. Mariah could definitely do the song justice, her lower registers are criminally overlooked by both fans and critics. However, I would prefer Mariah and Babyface write a proper duet for her and Toni. Besides hasn't Toni already recorded a duet of How Could an Angel Break My Heart with Babyface?

Mariah Carey posts TBT picture with Britney Spears (83,272)

I'm sure Mariah is aware of the rumors that claim she's releasing a collaboration (duet) with Britney as her next single. Do I think this post was Mariah confirming the rumors or just trolling? Personallly, I could see this working Mariah sings the song in her lower registers and it's a well written song.

10 Songs Mariah Carey should add to her Vegas set (83,271)

I agree with adding Slipping Away, Butterfly, Breakdown, Close my Eyes, and Outside to the set list. I'd add The Roof, Whenever You Call, You're So Cold, Forever, and Petal to the list as well. I would go back to Vegas just to see her perform Slipping Away, lol. Or any of these songs, honestly.

Have you watched any of her Christmas performances at the Beacon theater? Have you seen her 2013/2014 performance of The Art of Letting Go on Fallon? Or more recently her slaying Can't Let Go? Mariah's voice is delicate and she's uncomfortable on stage yet when well rested, rehearsed, and in the right environment she can still deliver live. Personally, I think she's doing the residencies and tours to overcome her stage fright and become a better performer and obviously to reconnect with and reengage her fanbase like she did in 2003 with the Charmbracelet world tour after critics and fans alike began guestioning her vocal abilities.

Imagine being at the controls when she recorded Daydream and Butterfly like he was, he was probably awestruck by her voice. I know I would've been. I would like to hear him talk about working with Mariah and her recording process. I love the David Cole and Robert Clivillés interview in which they talked about dozing off and Mariah waking them up when she hit a certain note. Was they referring to the recording of Emotions or You're So Cold?

Re: Walter A. (83,196) (83,202)

Mariah has stated that Walter ran to Tommy and told him he thought Mariah was making a mistake by working with the producers and collaborators she was wprking with which he confronted Mariah about and the only way he would have known was if Walter told him, Mariah isn't an idiot. He's bitter Mariah was able to succeed without him. If she hadn't changed her sound she would have followed Celine into irrelevance in 2002. By taking her music in an urban direction she been able to remain relevant as an R&B artist, which she's always been. She's never been a pop star, she was only a pop star when R&B was considered pop in the 90's and 2000's.

I never said Mariah should come clean about the state of her voice or the cause of her vocal decline. I believe Mariah still has most voice. If she had lost even half of her voice her whistle register would have been the first to go followed by most of her upper register. Her voice has changed because of the constant recording over the last 28 years but when well rested and in the right environment she's still capable of greatness.
