Ha, you know this reminds me of that list we compiled a while back. I've tried to remember as many excuses as possible, let me know if there's anything I forgot. I've got 25, to commemorate the anniversary of Merry Christmas lol. This is all in jest by the way peeps.
1. Ear monitor malfunction 2. No humidifiers 3. Too cold 4. Too hot 5. Stage fright 6. Corset too tight 7. Michael Jackson's casket put her off 8. Didn't want to upstage the Queen of Soul 9. Wanted to respect her peers 10. Bronchitis 11. Stressful divorce 12. Arm in a sling 13. Pregnant 14. Not pregnant 15. Nodules 16. Too many splashes 17. Medicated 18. Backing singers missed their cue 19. Sabotaged by Dick Clarke Productions 20. Late for the sound check 21. Not enough sleep 22. Bipolar 23. Food poisoning 24. Mic wasn't turned up 25. Shit happens

Not sure what your budget is, but it is available on Discogs - though not cheap. At all.

I had it but sold it on eBay when times got rough. I got quite a lot of money for it actually. I miss it.

All the best Will, you will be fine I have no doubt. Hero does it for me when I need some self belief. There's something about being your own champion that is really quite inspiring and Mariah captured that perfectly in the song.

Yes, an audio book would be great, as Mariah has such a great delivery at times, especially when joking around. Plus I love it when she's talking and then goes into an acapella moment.

Bless you, thank you. It is one of my happiest Mariah related memories. Another thing she did that has stayed in my memory is I was staying at my aunt's house with my nan to "cat sit", and I had asked my mum to buy me the debut album on tape as I was building my collection (it was Summer 1994 so I had Music Box, Unplugged, and Emotions on tape). I had those albums with me and was playing them non stop. My mum called to check in on me and said she'd picked the tape up from HMV (big record store chain in the UK), and I made her read out the tracklisting and describe the inlay to me lol. She said things like "the back is gold with black lettering, there is a picture of her holding a microphone in the inside" and then I made her read out the lyrics every day I was there down the phone to me lol. I love her so much.

I will never forget that period. Fantasy was ruling the airwaves all summer, and I remember waiting so eagerly for the album to release. I came home from school on the day, pretty dejected that I wouldn't get to hear it until the weekend, only to find my lovely mum had gone out and got the CD for me, and taped it to the inside window of the front porch, so I saw it as I walked (and than sprinted lol) up the front path. I played the album all night and recorded it onto a blank tape for my Walkman for my trips to and from school. I remember sitting on the stairs in the hall with my mum and I got to the lyric sheet. All summer I could not decipher what she sang after "feels like I'm dreaming" on the Tom Tom Club sample. Every member of the family heard something different. When I read "feels like I'm dreaming but I'm not sleeping" out loud, my family chorused an "ahhhh of course" together.
I really hope Mariah does commemorate the anniversary with something special, though it was unfortunate to see her other albums hit the milestone with nothing special. The deluxe should unearth that infamous Underneath the Stars video, shrouded in mystery.
I was playing the Daydream singles recently, can anyone help me out. Fantasy was released on two CD singles in the UK. The "blue sleeve" version had the "Bad Boy with ODB" mix that appeared on many compilations later, and the "white sleeve" version had "Puffy's Mix". The only audible difference I can hear is there is no echo on the "jump jump" line in the rap on the second mix. Am I missing anything or was that really the only difference?

Agree, though I suspect MC would have done a demo or something at the time in 1994, so that would be even better to hear Prime Mariah sing the hell out of that song.

Agree. I'm a bit sad it didn't see its way onto the 25th deluxe of Merry Christmas along with the other originals from the MCIIY album.

I also can't believe it's been ten years since Memoirs came out. I'll play it today in celebration. Betcha Gon' Know is probably one of her best album openers yet, and Languishing is just beautiful, and let's not forget the 20th would-be #1 Ribbon (19th was, of course, Migrate). It's one of those albums of hers where I hardly ever play it, yet when I do, I remember that I love every song. E=MC2 is the other one.

Hmmm. I don't intend on watching it, I'm a bit too old for all that sort of stuff these days, but maybe the song wasn't ready when the episode was put together. Mariah is usually a bit last minute in these circumstances.

Aww. Thanks all of you that thought of me haha. I just read over my old messages about it, I definitely owe this one to the good Lord above as he well and truly answered my prayer (exclamation mark). I honestly felt like I was in a dream when I read that tracklisting, plus, a new song to boot. Such great news. I wonder if the version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman will be the original or the other version that was on the "other" anniversary edition of the album. I think I prefer the original as it's always been engrained in my soul since 1994 and the re-mastered version sounds odd lol. But who cares we're getting the St John the Divine concert so I couldn't be more happy. If someone from Mariah's label read my message and did this off the back of my comment, I am forever in your debt. This will be the first time AIWFCIY has been heard performed live in the year of release. All we've had before is the Tokyo Dome performance, which was amazing, and then the ropey version from MicFeedGate. I have never wished my days away but please October hurry up and zip past so we can get to November lol.
Also just seen there's a lovely green cassette. That will go nicely with my pink Caution cassette. Thanks Mariah for keeping retro alive.

The cover of the 7" is beautiful. I'm so used to the greyscale of the original, this colourised version really pops. Looks beautiful.

Well, it's no Can't Let Go, but it's no Crapfinity either. Song is fresh, vibrant and fun, though her voice sounded very odd in the first verse to me. And no offence to Roc and Roe, but their "yeehhhh" was way out of tune. Time will tell if they inherited their mother's musical genes I guess. But I'm thankful this didn't end up on the trash heap with the aforementioned Crapfinity, and its ugly siblings Why You Mad, Infamous, The Star, Can't Say No, Did I Do That, and Boy.

Probably the same reason she didn't tour Europe for the Music Box tour. She said at the time touring put a huge strain on her voice so she very rarely did it back then.
