She can when well-rested and rehearsed. She slayed all of the snippets of fan favorites she sang during the Caution World Tour. Here's a link off her singing snippets of Slipping Away and Music Box live and slaying.

Blasphemy. We all want Mariah to work with Bruno. I've been begging for a Mariah/Bruno collaboration for years. A self-professed music journalist said a few months ago on Twitter that an artist (she's hinted the artist was Bruno) was working on a soundtrack and that Mariah was going to be featured on it and now Bruno has confirmed he's working on music for Disney.

If Mariah ever does a Superbowl halftime performance she should do a medley of her greatest hits with her just singing the first verse and chorus of each song except whatever song she closes the set with, on that song she should cut lose and go for it. She should do the same for the Brighton Pride performance.

Mariah created the Hip-Pop sound to quote Left Eye from TLC. No one bats an eye when an R&B artist collaborates with a rapper but when a Pop princess, who let's not forget was married to the head of her label, collaborated with OBD people sat up and took notice. I remember reading articles and reviews in 1995 that said by doing that remix Mariah was going to alienate her core audience. They were wrong and the rest is history. MJ's collaboration was a #1 but he also received a lot of flack for working with Hip-Hop artists because he was considered a Pop artist just like Mariah even though the music they made was R&B music.

I think it's because she's been consistent musically and she's a legend. Those lawsuits are meritless. If she was being blackmailed with those photos that leaked showing her c-section scar I don't know why she was so worried about them getting out. Yes, she looked high/drunk but her body looked amazing. Every celeb gets sued, it comes with the territory.

Love Takes Time was added to the album after the they had already started manufacturing the album. It's on all of the albums but it's not listed on dozens of copies and is basically a hidden track on those albums. Tommy was smart to include it on Mariah's debut because it would sound out of place on Emotions and it became her second #1.

Music critics and journalists have called the Fantasy Remix the most important recording of her career which speaks for itself. She made it the norm because of her massive crossover appeal.

She was inspired by those songs and is heard on a demo asking C&C if they're sure their song isn't too similar to that other song and they assured her it was. Since Sony's legal department allowed those songs to be released without crediting. I assume they either didn't see an issue or did but didn't care. As I said in 1990 when Mariah was writing and recording Emotions sampling was in its infancy and if she's sampled a sing since she's given the shes/writers credit.

I wasn't surprised by his she's not a songwriter because she's been sued for plagiarism nonsense. Every successful singer/songwriter has been accused of plagiarism. Emotions was released when sampling wasn't a common practice and she's credited her inspirations ever since. The Hero suit is insane and was thrown out twice. The last suit was over TGIFY and I think it's meritless because dozens of songs from 1999 sound exactly like TGIFY. Roger ardently defended Mariah until she parted ways with Cindy and he's attempted to diminish her credibilityy ever since. I loved it when he had to admit that #Beautiful was a good song because it is.

I love Mariah Carey the artist for her art, not the accolades and chart achievements which is why I didn't jump ship during the Glitter era or abandon her after the opening night of the Elusive Chanteuse tour, Rockefeller Center debacle, or the NYE fiasco. She's earned my love and loyalty and I'll always support her. It's sad that some of you no longer appreciate her music because unlike her contemporaries she continues to evolve musically while staying true to who she is.

Which of my detailed assumptions do suspect are hard wrong? The Distance and With You are clearly about Bryan as are OMG and SLLY. GTFO and A No No are obviously about Packer and Stella. 8th Grade is about how her insecurities, insecurities she has stated she developed in eighth grade, have affected and continue to affect her relationships and Portrait is about how she's become somewhat desensitized and is yet somehow still the same hopeful child who is haunted by severed ties and how she had to push past the parasites (Stella and Co.) who may have knocked her down (personally and professionally) but that she hasn't become demoralized by the ordeal and wondering where she is going to go from here. I might be wrong about Giving Me Life being about Bryan. The lyrics thinking about when we were seventeen do make me think it's about a former lover but I think she just used it because it rhymes with Norma Jeane and evergreen. Even if I'm hard wrong it's fun to speculate who inspired her to write certain songs.

Mariah hasn't written the lyrics to an entire album since Butterfly(the only exceptions on that album being Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone's ad-libs and verse on Breakdown, her interpolation of lyrics from Elton John's Someone Saved My Life Tonight on Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise), and her cover of Prince's The Beautiful Ones). I think she enjoys writing with other people because she feeds off of their energy and it turns into a party (most of her Caution collaborators talk about Mariah drinking wine while writing).

To fans who prefer her earlier work, did you buy Caution or listen to it more than once? If not I suggest you do so because it takes several repeated listens for you to get the brilliance of the album. Yes, there's no immediate standout like Fantasy or big ballad like WBT but it's a solid album about relationships. The only issue is the transition from GTFO to With You tonally but since GTFO addresses her relationship with Packer and With You chronicles her relationship with Bryan it does make sense to sequence them back to back as together they tell a story.
Caution is an album about relationships that chronicles Mariah's life since 2014. GTFO is about Packer. With You is about her affair with Bryan. Caution is about being unsure of Bryan's motives and taking things slowly to ensure she isn't hurt or betrayed again after Nick and Packer. A No No is about Stella and Co. The Distance is about her and Bryan's relationship after reuniting. GML is also about Bryan. OMG is about her and Bryan's sex life. 8th Grade addresses her insecurities, insecurities she's had since she was in 8th grade. SLLY is again about Bryan. Portrait is her taking stock of her life and wondering where she goes from here.

Re: Where's whining Walter? (92,455) (92,473)
by B from USA

He makes me cringe. Did you read his interview with Variety where he claims she doesn't give him the credit he deserves? She has said she co-wrote it with him which is being generous since both have stated in the past that she came up with the unconventional melody which he thought wouldn't work and wrote the lyrics by herself and took it to him and he added some bells and whistles to it. His demand to be given equal credit for the song is laughable. Now if he had co-written the lyrics his claim would have some merit but he didn't so it doesn't. He thought her career was over when she began working with R&B and Hip Hop writers and producers and he told Tommy that she was going to alienate her adult contemporary fans by doing so and when Tommy, who she had banned from the studio, confronted her about it she knew Walter was responsible and that is the reason she ended their relationship. He also claimed she makes up words using emblazoned from My All as an example which is a word so it made him look like a fool. She's never going to reconcile with him. He betrayed her trust. He essentially owes his career to her because while working as a keyboardist for Narada Michael Walden Mariah and he clicked and she insisted that she work with him on Love Takes Time when Tommy heard her demo despite his insistence that she continue working with already established producers.

Agreed. I love each member of the Vocal Trinity but I think Mariah's the best singer of the three and she one upped the other two by writing her songs. She's untouchable in the studio and her pen is a sharp as ever. Even at her worst her voice still sounds pleasing to me because of sunshine and champagne tone. Whitney was my favorite singer until I heard Fantasy and I was enraptured by Mariah's angelic voice and then diving into her back catalogue was an experience I'll never forget.

I love You're Mine (Eternal) but it was a horrible choice as the second single. I would've preferred MILG or a remix of Meteorite (without the Andy Warhol quote). GTFO was a perfect choice as a buzz song because it addressed Packer and Stella and I understand why With You was chosen as the first single (and it did do well in the Adult Contemporary and R&B charts) but I wish she had released Caution as the lead single followed by Giving Me Life and 8th Grade as the second and third singles respectively. A No No was doomed by JD claiming a remix featuring Cardi and Kim was coming when it wasn't. FYI, Caution returned to the charts recently so it's still selling.
