Celine 2024 Olympics (106,979)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Yes, what a final for the olympic opening. The final was the best. The German commentator shared some tears too because of Céline Dion. You could hear it. He was very moved. I love the great Edith Piaf and Céline singing that song behind the Eiffel tower (after all her struggling) it really was heart touching and awesome. I will watch the games. Thanks, I wish everyone who is watching a great time too.

Yes she was great. Best part of the whole opening ceremony. I found the rest of it not great. Great idea to show the city, which looked amazing, however the rest of it didn’t translate well on TV I felt.

RA, I loved knowing what you do for a living. So fitting - great match for all your passion, compassion and optimism. I think it would be great to know what the rest of the MC fans (some people don't like the term lambs) do here - whoever is interested in sharing. I'm an architect.

Nobody stands a chance with the media propaganda that is Taylor Swift. Do not get how she is so big, sorry to any Swifties. She's good but she's no where as good as she's made out to be.

by Bobby A from United States

Maybe multiple projects released during the 12 months will only help MC reintroduce herself again on the Billboard 200. I don't think MC has anything to worry about upcoming album releases from Katy Perry, Coldplay or Rihanna. Critics are dragging Katy Perry's Woman World and Lifetimes album tracks in the mud. They are expecting her album 143 to tank on the charts on September 20th just like Camilo Cabello's C, XOXO did 3 weeks ago. The music world has only been good to Taylor Swift this year. It seems this year a lot of labels have reissued a lot artists' classic albums remastered on vinyl and CD. They are everywhere in vinyl record shops and Tower Records.

E=MC2 off on the beaten path (106,867)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|

I think it was the choice to release Bye Bye as the 2nd single. After that I think she just lost momentum and they didn't play. She should have followed up with an upbeat song to keep the momentum going. Bye Bye is to similar slow beat to WBT and DFAU. I love I'm That Chick, that would have been a good follow up with a fun video. I would have loved Migrate as a single but not sure if the video would have been too hoodriah for the general public to take.

I have always wondered why Bye Bye, I Stay In Love, and I'll Be Lovin U Long Time all failed to have the same top 10 success as Touch My Body. I just can't pinpoint why pop radio didn't give those singles the same airplay impressions as Touch My Body. Were they weak single choices or pop radio was moving away from playing R&B songs on pop radio? There was a significant shift in pop radio from 2008-2010.

I hadn't heard of him before. Nice. I think MC has recorded a lot of different styles of music in the last few years from contemporary rnb to pop to dance and disco. It'll be interesting to see if she ends up with a varied album or commits to one particular style. Rumours are that Ariana has put her in touch with Max Martin and they have also recorded. I hope we get an original song this year, even if the album is released next year. It's funny how Christmas is her most popular time but also restricts her for a few months.

May Céline inspire Mariah? (106,856)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I'm sorry I'm not ashamed to have said that, I love Celine and I never said it wasn't awful what she's been through. It's a terrible disease and I can't imagine how it's been for her. However let's be realistic, this is the entertainment industry and where's there's money to be made the industry and its stars will make money out of such things. That's not me taking away from her illness as you think I am. I'm just stating a fact. Could Celine have chosen just to get better and not even mention about her voice then just release a new album, absolutely. Or does she document her whole experience and make money off it, then release an album and make double the money, course she will. She's a business woman at the end of the day. It's heartbreaking what she has been through and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. So don't tell me I'm being callous when you don't even know me.

May Céline inspire Mariah? (106,854)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
"Miraculously she will soon be able to sing again and then a new album and book will be released about her struggles and then she's laughing all the way to the bank." To be so callus about a life threatning condition with no cure that triggers when she is doing something that brings her joy, is honesty horrible. I would hope that is there is nobody in the world who, after watching her actually have a seizure and what it looks like, would ever have the momentary flash of genuine thought that she would be "laughing all the way to the bank". What a careless, heartless comment to make and you should be ashamed.

May Céline inspire Mariah? (106,850)

I disagree, Mariah has said her voice isn't where she has liked it to have been on various projects and when she is performing live and not hit the note how she wanted she's said on numerous times, it is what it is. I think she does acknowledge the change in her voice but just on a personal level and doesn't feel the need to announce it like Celine has. Celine had lip synced for a while now too, had she not got this illness would she be doing this documentary and saying she can't sing, I very much doubt it. Whilst she has been really ill, she's capitalising on the fact and throwing in that her voice wasn't what it was, because let's face it, the programme wouldn't be as interesting if it was just about her being ill. Miraculously she will soon be able to sing again and then a new album and book will be released about her struggles and then she's laughing all the way to the bank. Sorry to sound cynical but it's easier to associate the loss of a once powerful voice to something else than just older age, if Mariah had been severely ill like Celine she too could have done a programme and said that's what attributed to her vocal decline but without that it doesn't make an interesting story.

I totally agree with Shezz when he says that Mariah is fine doing what she's doing. She's not interested in selling out stadiums anymore. She's happy with doing shows here and there throughout the year and then popping up at Christmas time to collect her coins. I don't get the hunger to master her craft like Celine has right now. Celine could have just lipped her way through entire shows like MC is doing right now but she is hungry to be the best and not ok with deceiving her audience. Celine also has always admitted that the older she gets, her voice has changed and she can't sing like she did when she was younger. MC would never admit the significant changes in her voice. It all comes down to confidence. Celine is confident and MC is not. Celine has done the work to become a dynamic performer and MC has regressed in her craft in my opinion. I'll always champion for MC but she has to get off autopilot and clock in.

Remastered Rainbow album (106,762)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
First off, I'm loving the attention this album is getting, as it's one of her hidden gems. I played the record on speakers for the first time yesterday, been listening on Airpods all this while. I noticed her voice is placed forward and center, and the sound quality is polished and overall more rounded, with a cleaner sound, than the original version. This makes the ballads pop, the vocals on TGIFY less muddy and reveals parts on the songs one did not catch before, listening to "Bliss" was an experience. Remastering records sometimes marrs an album, this one makes it better. Thumbs up Mariah.

Rainbow Mariah (106,748)
by Mara from United States

Living through all of Mariah's album releases and "eras" in real time, I've always said that "Rainbow Mariah" always seemed like someone I could be best friends with. So much fun. I don't know if it was the fact that she proved herself since Tommy already with Butterfly or what, but everything during Rainbow was so carefree. No jewelry, fancy dresses, just pure fun and remixes for days. I know the vocals were not perfection but that's what I loved. The organic rasp was everything. She just seemed so carefree not to mention we got the best live performances and acceptance speeches ever from #1's leading into Rainbow. FunRiah is what I remember during that time. Not to mention she was always a trendsetter. Having Jay-Z on Heartbreaker when she had the song "How Much" with Usher and it sampling Tupac "Me and My Girlfriend" way before J and Beyonce. She always was ahead of the game or shall I say industry.

Favorite Rainbow track (106,731)
by Libra Lamb from USA

So I've been really enjoying this new anniversary edition of Rainbow and the song that stood out the most for it's haunting, sincere lyrics and vulnerability is Petals. I absolutely love this song, though it's always been one of my favorites, lately I can really appreciate how beautiful and real it is. Mariah does her best writing when she dives deep into her personal heartaches and lets the pen flow. The Petals Pound Boys remixes are really good too, it's a shame they were excluded from the MC30 releases. Do you have a new favorite Rainbow track? I know it's hard to pick just one.

Wow, you lucky one. I had tickets ordered for the tour for a friend and me. But I was a young teen back then and my mother didn't allow to travel only with a friend to a city 2 hours away from my home at night. So I had to resell the tickets. In 2003 I was finally able and old enough lol to see Mariah for the first time (Charmbracelet tour) and the wait was worth it. One of the best nights. But back to Rainbow, I revisit the album too and I have so many good feelings and memories about the music and the time. As I said, I was a mostly carefree teen and I remember it like it was yesterday. I really was Mariah "obsessed" in 99. Lol. Most of my friends were fans of boybands but I was a Mariah fan since Daydream. Now the time has changed in so many ways, people and things, but the music and memories will stay. I feel a little old too now.

The question becomes what do they mean by "original mixing problems"? Does that mean the mixes we've known for 25 years are not what she initially wanted? Are these new mixes what 2024 MC prefers?
I just realized that on Spotify the OG album has been updated with these new mixes and that's annoying. I was listening to the climax note of the Vulnerability interlude and the ending of that sustained note is missing something that was in the OG.

Article: Mariah Carey's "Rainbow" gets remastered (106,654)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I sometimes feel Mariah spends too much time on projects, perfecting them. Sometimes the best ideas are sporadic. And analyzing and perfecting things can sometimes take away from the original idea. I also think when you analyse something over and over something that isn't that great from the start can almost feel better after becoming over familiar with it. It's like when a song is released from her that isn't that great and after a while you learn to love it as you have become over familiar with it. I bet most of her big hits were all in the moment songs that were great from the offset.

Article: Mariah Carey's "Rainbow" gets remastered (106,651)
by Scott from USA
| |
|
|
While I am excited to hear the remastered album and any unreleased material, I am not so sure that I agree with this article's assertion that "Mariah had invested quite a bit in this album". Rainbow was created quickly and in response to delays on the development of the Glitter film. Additionally, it completed her contract with Sony, which I think was Mariah's strongest motivation for putting an album out at the time. She wanted to close that chapter of her life. There are certainly some moments on Rainbow that I love - Heartbreaker is an instant classic, and songs like Petals and Ex-Girlfriend gave us some (somewhat uncharacteristically) autobiographical lyrics about Mariah's life at the time - but overall Rainbow feels to me like Mariah's most rushed work. That being said, it's fun, it's sexy, and it's perfect for Pride Month.
