As much as I love the album cover, have to agree Licia. The pink caution tape with a glimpse of Mariah's blue tinged eye behind it was very effective. Hoping that will be the deluxe edition, which of course will contain the demo tape, every unreleased song ever, and a new version of Why You Mad.

Haha, are you serious? I think that MIAM’s cover was created by Industrial Light & Magic, it’s so fake. That said, love the Caution album cover. One of her best.

Yes, add me to the list of surprised but delighted fans with the album title. I love it, and certainly prepares us all for the f-bombs and "aggressiveness" lol. My mind is racing away with me, but imagine if she did a concept album, first half "caution it's so explosive" which is all the up tempos and aggressive songs, and then part two being "caution to the wind" (line from The Roof) which is the more mellow, deep cuts.

I agree - all her efforts since MIAM, with the exception of Unforgettable, have been listened to maybe less than 5 times each by me. With You, however, I've been playing every day. It is a really good song and I hope it grows on the general public and casual fans. MC really needs to get out there and start promoting it a bit more though. Great the video is finally out, AMA performance was visually breathtaking, but don't lose the momentum. #Beautiful should have been the 21st number one (after Migrate and Ribbon) but the grinding halt to the promotion stopped it from happening. That was a genuine issue with the shoulder injury though, right now there's no reason to prematurely pull the plug on the promo. Lots of p's in that sentence, sorry.

With You is definitely a grower that's for sure, but if it's taken us as fans a couple of weeks and multiple listens to get into it, I do worry about how successful the song will be outside her fan base. The video should help, it's actually her best since Touch My Body, and I hope she does some more TV spots and not sit there thinking that one lipped performance at the AMAs is enough promo, because it isn't.

There's a massive, noticeable difference in the quality of vocals of When You Believe when compared against Sweetheart, I Still Believe and DYKWYGT - all recorded during the same period. That's all I'm saying.

My theory is Mariah wanted to be alone when recording her vocals so she could engineer the crap out of them to match Whitney's.

New album cover (84,789)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
The With You video is so good, on repeat viewings, that any one of the shots could make a really great album cover. Especially her in the car. I'd much prefer a still from that classy video over another photoshopped concoction of Mariah's head on a 20 year old's body. Another good look would be the shot of her sprawled on the floor, only in colour as that red dress was really striking.

Yes, even though she lipped the hell out of the song, I find myself going back to keep watching the AMA performance as it was a great visual and unique concept.

Re: "The Remixes" 15 years later (84,769) (84,787)
by Bill from the UK

It’s a great album but the second disc was botched. Half of it was album tracks that should have been replaced with the Pure Imagination remix of I Still Believe, finally release the elusive Drifting Remix of Underneath the Stars, and some of those rare DYKWYGT mixes and Butterfly meme mixes. That would have been a great treat for the fans. But no. Slap on Crybaby and Breakdown (not even the extended version). The other major omission was the ten minute club mix of ABMB. I would have preferred that over that lazy mix of Through the Rain.

Yep agreed. Video is all good, and who knew when she stepped out in those great trousers the other day it was fresh from filming a scene for the video. Love the hairbrush part. All very stylish. As I've said before, this song (and now video) are both fine, but I just don't think it has the "pizazz" of a lead single. Wish it the best though, especially after AMAgate.

Agree, Ribbon is the best song on Memoirs and should have been the lead single in my opinion, and 20th number one (in my world Migrate was a single and the 19th number one). Obsessed aged terribly, was a bit immature and Eminem completely ruined her with his response ("The Warning").

I can never hear enough of AIWFCIY (play it all year round, every single day, no joke). Discovering the "extended version" with the extra vocals after the fade out and the scatting at the end was a gift. Hearing the hidden whistles way in the background of the bridge after they were extracted in a YouTube video added a whole new "wow factor" for me in terms of what MC puts into her records. The backing singers, the lyrics, the sleigh ride pace, the dynamic vocal delivery, the acapella opening, the Phil Spector wall of sound, the perfect chord progressions, the glam rock of it all... there's a reason it is her most popular song, there's a reason it's her signature song, there's a reason it will outlive us all. It is a perfect composition. It's single handedly the best thing she has ever done, and no matter what happens now or in the future, she will always have this to her name, so she will always be brilliant. It is timeless, and it is one of only a handful of songs that I would consider to be perfect in every way (the others being Unchained Melody, What a Wonderful World, and Can't Help Falling In Love).

In Andrew's defence, and not that he needs me fighting his corner or anything, he's been called a lot worse by people on here. It's a message board, put it in perspective. We're all clearly very highly strung following the AMAs, let's all relax. So. What's your favourite remix?
