About darrian liu from taiwan:

Dubai (73,118) by darrian liu from taiwan
While not to the standards of the vocals in the Europe SSFT, it's still really good. Her voice sounds clear and smooth. I like it.

Re: L.A Reid (73,047) (73,050) by darrian liu from taiwan
The thing is Mariah doesn't need a record label. Her wealth and fame is big enough, plus with her 27 years (and counting) in the industry. What she desperately needs is a badass team, not these pathetic excuses Mariah surrounds herself with. Problem is she seems to be delusional as of now. Her bubble is so thick I can almost see it. Somebody pop her bubble please, let her truly emancipate. Ain't nobody gon' tell me that this is the real Mariah.

Anxious for her live performance. I hope she wil sing well and please, do multiple sound checks. And don't drink alcohol. And please do warm up your voice. We're counting on you Mariah.

If Mimi's really doing that yelling thing, thank God. We'll be getting what we want soon.

I prefer your video to the actual video. .

Current era (72,856) by darrian liu from taiwan
For me, that NYE performance disaster was a missed opportunity. It presented Mariah a chance to be the underdog, because it was so bad. People counted her out (and still to this day) after that performance. Had she went to being more remorseful and humble about that performance, people will have more sympathy for her and root for her. Mariah has the talent to be a good underdog. Everybody loves the underdog story (TEOM anybody?). But no, she had to make that comment "sh*t happens" and the way she came off to people, it's as if she doesn't care about her career anymore. The Tanaka storyline makes her look promiscuous, especially when she's fresh off the Packer breakup. That I Don't video shows zero humility at all. She isn't relatable. How I wish she has a much better team.

I Don't (72,733) by darrian liu from taiwan
I'm pleasantly surprised by the performance. First of all, her airy vocals sounded so gorgeous and pretty. Her tone is also actually better than the studio version, so she didn't really need that studio vocals kicking in during the chorus, because compared to her live vocals, her studio vocals of the chorus sounded horrid and tight. I love that closing run, it added some dramatic flair. Overall, her voice does sound huskier but it sounded wonderful. I think the only problem was that since the song is filled with closed vowels, her chest voice sound tighter than they should be (she wasn't having tension or anything though, it's just that her voice currently has this husky, dry tone and in closed vowels, they tend to sound tighter). It was good.

Grammys 1996 (72,720) by darrian liu from taiwan
Alanis made a great record. I was mad before when I read that Mariah didn't win any Grammy for Daydream just because of how amazing it is. It definitely deserves the Album of the Year. But Alanis's Jagged Little Pill is an equally brilliant album. After I listened to it, I understood why Mariah didn't win the award. JLP also deserves that award. It's like 25 vs Lemonade, both albums deserve to win the award.

Re: Adele, just wow (72,635) (72,647) by darrian liu from taiwan
I agree. Lemonade is amazing when listening on its own but paired with its visuals, all of its cultural context and bold messages came to life. I wish Mariah could do something more like Lemonade. More bold experimentations and less formulaic songs.

Grammy's (72,574) by darrian liu from taiwan
First of all, Adele is a very, very gracious person. Her acceptance speech for her Album of The Year award is so genuine and passionate. I agree with her that Lemonade should have won that award, but I don't mind that she won those big awards at all, because she's talented and she deserves those awards (although I was rooting for Beyonce, she was definitely snubbed). Also, can we talk about that beautiful Beyonce performance? That performance is so poignant. So graceful. From her restrained yet powerful vocals to the stunning visual effects to the delicate choreography, it was flawless. Adele's tribute to George Michael was also so, so beautiful. Mariah's team, take notes.

Re: New radio call in (72,517) (72,529) by darrian liu from taiwan
Stop [censored]-shaming Mariah. Don't [censored]-shame any woman for that matter, no matter how they dress or act. It's not ok. It's utterly disrespectful. This era shows a much more revealing Mariah, but does that allow you to [censored]-shame her? No. No it doesn't.

Mariah's image (72,510) by darrian liu from taiwan
I don't see the benefit for her to have this sexy, borderline trashy image. I just want her to forget about image. Forget about being looked as desirable, or sexy, etc. She needs to know that she doesn't need those things. Her voice and her talent is enough to carry her on. Mariah isn't good at handling her image, so why not just [censored] it and do what she's actually good at, writing and singing? Is it that hard to do?

Re: Mariah Carey is a hard person to love these days (72,499) (72,509) by darrian liu from taiwan
A completely stripped down album is gonna be amazing. Her raw, warm, slightly dry voice would lend itself so nicely to warm acoustic guitar ballads. I think she should write and sing songs with Jazmine Sullivan. She's super talented and her soothing voice will match Mariah's voice so much.

Re: The opinion conundrum (singing) - what would you do? (72,404) (72,410) by darrian liu from taiwan
1. Definitely will go to the radio. It's one thing to be trashed because of tardiness but it's much worse to come off as if you don't care about your fans. That would mean you're ungrateful, and nobody likes ungrateful brats.
2. I would sing live but I think I can do it without being ostracized. I can do a stripped down version of the song that won't require much belting. Anyone could go grab a guitar or a piano and do an acoustic version ala Tori Kelly. Plus, I would probably cover my belting problems with a bunch load of runs.
3. I'd rather lip the worldwide concert. Although it has more publicity, there's more risk of messing up on the worldwide one. I would rather give 40 live moments each year instead of just giving 1 live moment each year.
4. Same answer.
5. Of course the fans would know that I can sing. On the other hand, I would need to convince the world that I can sing. If the whole world knows I can sing, why would the fans know otherwise? So I'd convince the world instead of fans.

Re: MC copied Whitney and Aretha's runs (72,332) (72,359) by darrian liu from taiwan
Mariah's runs are definitely not copied from Whitney and Aretha. Mariah's runs are usually flowery, long and complex (not just in the melody, but her trademark transitions from chest to head, head to chest, chest to whistle, head to whistle). Her runs are also marked by its clarity and precision. Aretha's runs, while complex, tend to be less flowery and more soulful. Whitney's runs are usually shorter and less complex, although I believe she can do more complex runs. There's a reason Mariah is one of the few coloraturas in pop music. Aretha and Whitney aren't close to being coloratura. So while Mariah is inspired by Nippy and Aretha, she definitely doesn't copy their runs.

Re: Would you rather? (72,313) (72,315) by darrian liu from taiwan
I would rather for Mariah to have another number one. A big, undeniably popular number one will give her that confidence we saw in 2005, and knowing Mariah, she'll be able to follow that #1 with another #1. Nowadays, people look for singles instead of bodies of work, so by having #1s, it will ensure Mariah keeps relevance in the public's eyes and her album will sell well as a result.

Re: Question about charts (72,146) (72,196) by darrian liu from taiwan
I think the number one most important factor is airplay. Of course physical and digital sales contribute the most chart points but how will a song get mass exposure? Through radio. By having great airplay gains, more people will be exposed to the song and some who like the song will either stream it, buy it or both. Or, the second option is to have it viral through social media through some "challenges" (think Harlem Shake, Juju on that Beat, Bad and Boujee, Black Beatles). That means the song will be a hit through streaming, which seems to happen more and more frequently. So to have I Don't be a #1 or AIWFCIY be a #1, they need to gain airplay like crazy or be used in some sort of funny challenge.

Current era in music (72,168) by darrian liu from taiwan
Somehow, you don't need talent to be played on radio these days, but I think an increasing number of young people (including me) are starting to appreciate and prefer talent over buzz and sex. Adele is one example. Another example is one of my favorite acts of all time, Twenty One Pilots, which has a huge fanbase (most of them are my age group, 17-25) and they're insanely talented, vocally, lyrically, and melodically. I think more young people are fed up with the plastic trash on the radio (out of 10 songs on the radio, usually I would only enjoy 1 or 2). This means classy and talented acts will dominate soon, which means Mariah would have a chance at recapturing her crown (that is, if she puts her talent over her tittays instead of otherwise).

I Don't is pretty good (72,129) by darrian liu from taiwan
Ok but this is Infamous all over again. The first time I heard the song I was like okay, that's nice but now I have it on repeat lol. I'm addicted to the song and my heart swells when I saw her on #6 in iTunes USA. We have a potential hit here guys, and I'm all for it . (That YG part still ugly af don't get me wrong.)

Re: I Don't (72,013) (72,043) by darrian liu from taiwan
I couldn't agree more. You Don't Know What To Do is pure brilliance. Pop perfection at its best. It has this timeless sound and it could be a big hit in any era of Mariah's career. I could almost hear it being blared in the radio on heavy rotation. She should give it another chance and give it the full blown single treatment. The first time I played this song to my friends they immediately looked for the song themselves.

I Don't (72,042) by darrian liu from taiwan
It's decent, I like the beats, modern R&B with a touch of trap. It doesn't sound dated. The lyrics are not the best, but that's ok. Her harmonies at the "but I don't, I don't" part are super gorgeous and I wish that harmony was a bit louder in the mix. It's catchy but it doesn't make me feel anything. It's kinda just those kinds of songs that sounds nice but doesn't have that magic to pull you in. Maybe YG is the reason, his parts were straight up ugly and doesn't help the song at all. Perhaps she should record a solo version.

I Don't (71,959) by darrian liu from taiwan
After seeing the video teaser, I guess I'll just stream it on Spotify and listen through iTunes. I'm ignoring it like I ignored Mariah's World (probably would still rush as soon as the video drops to watch lol).

Article: Mariah congratulates Beyonce on pregnancy with twins (71,958) by darrian liu from taiwan
The media has to stop this "Mariah doesn't like Bey" when Mariah has stated otherwise in various interviews. Kinda pisses me off.
