Re: Oh please, Adele? (58,925) (58,926)

That's not really true and you don't know how Adele's career will pan out. The difference between Adele and a few of the other artists you mentioned is the fact that she writes her own songs and sings them very well. Of course she's different to Mariah but they come from different worlds and backgrounds. Mariah was practically driven like a workhorse for nearly a whole decade, working like that is going to achieve you great success and records. Adele has worked slower and has built a family inbetween it all. Adele is a wonderful person, a great artist and has achieved success without special effects/twerking/getting naked. Mariah's approach to music and how involved she gets is what makes her amazing, and I'm sure she does more than she is credited for. But I think that comes from music being the only thing she had for a long period of time. Adele hasn't been in that situation but that doesn't make her less of an artist. I'd rather someone like her hit Mariah's records compared to people like Beyonce, Rihanna or Nicki etc.

Joy To The World Hallmark (58,581)

She sounds stunning here and it's so nice to see a taped version of this song. She looks so young and sounds it as well. I'm so happy this is going to be on DVD. This really reminds me of the MTV Unplugged session, good for her for coming back stronger than last year. Who's laughing now Rockefeller?

Hey Jade. Yeah I don't mind going to things on my own, I go to the cinema on my own all the time haha. I just know it would be enjoyable with like-minded people. I've only considered concerts a few times mostly because they can be pricey but I feel if I don't see her now I might never get the chance. It is a good idea to ask around so if anyone does fancy it, holler. Thank you for the consideration though, I hope you have a fab time when you go.

Haha I'd still dance and sing along even on my own. London is nearest but then it all depends on tickets because I want to be a sat close enough to smell her.

Buying a ticket (58,496)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |

I'm considering buying one and going on my own purely because I don't know how much longer she'll be touring and I don't want to miss a chance. I could ask people in my family to come but they've only really liked her older stuff and I feel it might not be enjoyable for them when she sings her other songs. Has anyone been on their own? What is it like?

I'd swap Always Be My Baby for The Roof. I like Always Be My Baby but I'm not too keen on how they perform it live. That sneak of The Roof she gave at Jimmy Kimmel was bliss, I don't know why she doesn't do those kinda songs more.

This is amazing. This is probably her best performance of this song in years, and the top it off she's strutting around that stage while throwing those notes there's no tomorrow.

Wow for some reason I've never seen that. She's singing so well and her hand movements seem very early 90's haha. It baffles me how her voice goes through stages of being this good and then other days she has troubles. It must be frustrating for her but a major kick-ass moment when she has full control like she does here.

Mariah's message to Jay Z (58,210)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I know this is digging up old dirt lol but ever since Mariah mentioned someone stealing her work I've been curious to know who it was. It probably isn't Beyonce or Jay Z now that she's spoken to them. I did wonder if it might have been Taylor Swift which someone might have mentioned before? 1989 was the time Mariah had a demo full of classics and was starting out, I wonder if that was the concept at the time. Maybe not for MIAM but an idea for a future album. The videos for Taylor's songs for that album were very Mariah-esque as well. It's all such a mystery haha.

Nobody knows what held her up. She did apologise and came back to do a live performance which she could have avoided altogether. I definitely don't think it warranted her being humiliated.

Re: Mariah's projects (58,118) (58,122)

Looking at actors/actresses that are successful today, there is a common theme that they move away from themselves intirely when approaching a certain character. Mariah did this for Precious and The Butler, even though her role was small in The Butler she still conveyed the emotion it needed and she done amazing in both. I feel that if Mariah went out of her comfort zone more when acting she would be great. I'm not sure if that scene is final, it seems unfinished to me. But to me she seems uncomfortable which might be a result of not getting into her character more. If I was in her position I'd have her wear a black fringe-bob wig, unflatering lighting and darker clothes. Really get the dark persona across and the passive aggressiveness. When she forgets about her insecurities she really shines.

This may be a stupid question but if AIWFCIY peaked at #1 on Billboard would it be considered another #1 for her?

I don't. I keep meaning to look to buy it but never get round to it, kinda why I wish it was on iTunes since that makes everything more accessible. I will one day haha. My birthday is soon so perhaps I can hint it for a present.

I love that album. It's always annoyed me how it isn't on iTunes or Spotify but I guess that's due to Mariah's distaste for everything to do with that.

Don't think she isn't thinking of this tragedy though. Paris is a wonderful place and it's obvious she enjoys going there so you can be sure she is thinking and praying for the peace this world needs. She's busy with kids hence the reason she has Stella, so I wouldn't take it personally. I've been listening to There's Got To Be A Way a lot and it couldn't be more relevant. All the best.

That was confusing me too. I know she's a busy gal but I'd love to know that it is just her posting on her social networks. Perhaps she's hinting to her amazing album since both of those are from 2005. Could be signs for another killer album like that.

Secret background vocals (57,607)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
Has anyone been listening to a song from Mariah and suddenly noticed a small background vocal that is so sutble you never heard it before? I was listening to Meteorite and on the line where she sings "Meteorite-ite-ite" she adds a really whispery "a shooting star". It's around 1:29 in the song. I know it's small but it adds so much more to the song and she does it until the end. It really shows her musicality and attention to detail and sets her apart from so many other singers.

Re: The Macau misrepresentation (57,594) (57,597)

There's no doubt most of us wish for answers only she has haha. Don't forgot she's done a Vegas residency which she could have filled with a bunch of songs she's comfortable with but she didn't, a lot of them she left in the 90's lol I think the case with the Macau performance was the fact that she was in a foreign country and those songs are pretty much known world wide. So those people who went knew them and could enjoy it/sing along. The thing is it's up to other people to use their money how they like and if they don't mind a little lipping from her majesty then who cares? It would be out of order if she was lipping every single live performance the entire way through but she isn't, thankfully.

Yeah I understand what you're talking about. I think a big part is her confidence. When her confidence is at a great point she owns it. Look at 2008, she sang her songs so good during that period and the same during 2003-05. I'm glad she hasn't been mucking up recently though to be honest. I'd rather her play it safe and gain her confidence in her own way and then start really going for it when she's ready. When she got slammed for her Christmas mistake last year I think she was over confident from her tour a few months earlier. I think that's what she's learned from.

I wouldn't say half sung, I've always thought when watching her it's like she doesn't truly trust her voice. It's the only way I can explain it. I think she sang a lot of them well but with Emotions, that is more about the whistles and always has been. Obviously she could go for the belts easier when she was younger but now she focuses on making the whistles sound good. Let's not forgot she's been killing that intro for a good year which she hasn't done since the MTV taping. There is improvement though, hopefully she can get the confidence she had in 2003 and on the Charmbracelet tour.

Great info. There is nothing wrong with her playing it safe in some moments, in fact it's smart. Years ago she could be bold and test herself with little worry about consequences, now one false move and she's plastered all over the world in the form of a Vine.
