Beyoncé having twins (71,951)

Congratulations for Bey. Ugh, imagine how cute Roc and Roe would be with Bey's twins? Although their play date would probably be Blue Blue l still think it's so cute.

For me, this song is really gorgeous. Her voice is filled emotions and passion, I can't imagine what it was like to record this. Must feel like the holy spirit is directly in the recording booth.

MW (71,899)

Luckily I didn't watch any single minute of it, except for that snippet for I Don't. From the articles, it seems like it's super fake, super plastic and super scripted. Who else is gonna ignore season 2 with me?

I Don't - so far I'm liking it (71,853)
by darrian liu from taiwan

From the longer snippet, I love how her vocal layers sound neater and cleaner, unlike the mess we heard in Infinity. The production is also more minimal, which I like very much. It seems like after Infinity she has tried to keep the layers and production cleaner and more understated, like Infamous and this one. The lyrics sound decent but of course far from her best. But her vocals sound tight and dry, which is something I've said in a previous post. If she could sound like how she sounded in #Beautiful, it would be beautiful. That line "When you love someone you just don't treat them bad" probably has some of her worst belts recorded in studio, the notes just lack the brightness she usually has and sounds like her throat was closing off. But overall I think we're all good. Can't wait for the release.

Re: New song (71,746) (71,775)

I think you're talking about her airy, whispery voice. It's not an actual register, just some texture manipulation, but I too, don't like her voice in the snippet. When she goes into the fuller, chest voice it sounded tight and strangled, although she should be comfortable in those notes (G4-D5). Her voice sounds dry and lacks that punch, fullness and brightness she had in the 2014-2015 shows of Beacon theater and the SSFT European dates. As a result her airy voice starts to sound dry too. Her airy voice sounds better in MIAM and I think sounds the best in Charmbracelet era. She should see a vocal coach while she still has it. She has to cancel season 2 and do a hiatus, seriously. Taking a four year break like Adele after 21 is a good idea. In those 4 years she can get a grip on herself, be with her kids, train those vocals, be healthier and reflect on her life and career and most importantly reflect on the people she has around. Remove toxic ones (looking at you, Blush ).

Does Mariah actually see a vocal coach? (71,327)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
Although her SSFT and Vegas vocals show improvement in consistency from let's say, 2014, the best days of 2014 are pretty much equal to the best dates of SSFT and Vegas. Pretty good support in her belts up to Eb5, basically almost nothing good above E5, good lows down to C3, solid head voice, and an overly chesty, heavy mix where she often closes off her throat above C#5/D5. Technically, she's been stagnant in that position since 2009. That's definitely not a sign of someone seeing a vocal coach or someone with a healthy set of vocal cords. In fact, I don't think Mariah shows signs of both factors. For the love of God, please Mariah, see a vocal coach. Preferably vocal trainer with classical method, or see the one Whitney hired in her last days, Gary Catona. He managed to salvage what's left of that instrument of Whitney in her last days, so why couldn't he do the same to Mariah? So it turned out that he works with clients who have damaged their voices in one way or another. In short, he's the perfect vocal coach for Mariah.

I love both songs but Close My Eyes has always been like a sanctuary. It's so peaceful and always succeeds to take off the stress I have. Close My Eyes all the way.

Make Stella go viral (71,054)

Once she goes viral producers will come to her pitching reality TV shows. Then after she makes good money with those shows, she won't need to be on Mariah's payroll. Y'all gif-makers and meme makers, where ya at?

His message for Mariah is solid. Perhaps once more she should do what Tommy tells her to do, just one last time. It would serve her greatly.

That's why. I don't understand how she didn't do a proper sound check. If there's one thing I want Mariah to take note from other artists, it would be Beyonce's dedication, seriousness and discipline. Maybe the master can learn something from the student.

Mariah's performance (70,553)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
In one way, I'm so mad and disappointed with the performance. I feel so frustrated I nearly had a breakdown over it because I really, really want her to do good on public, not just on tour. But on the other hand, this is the mess up that will light up a fire under her butt. Look at how she went on one of her most vocally consistent tours after the disasters of TECS and Rockefeller. If anything, Mariah will get back up again.

Re: New Year performance (70,542) (70,552)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |

She may have a sore throat but one thing that really makes it unlikely is that she can still talk audibly and clearly without any cracks. The most likely explanation is that she did not warm up her vocals. I was so, so disappointed, with that performance. Emotions was her slaying song last year; her best vocal moments in 2016 has been from Emotions. But somehow, in live TV, she [censored] up the song. She didn't even sing. I'm utterly disappointed, I just can't. I know that she could slay that performance had she warmed up and rehearsed. She should've done a sound check. She should've rested well and stopped drinking days before the performance. There's so many that Mariah could have done to make that performance a hit, to open the year with a bang. Instead, she just shoves her career and reputation into a coffin. There's nearly no hope now; her image truly is in shambles. But I will stand with her. I will hope for better, because this is Mariah we're talking about. There's no choice now, she has to pull a Beyonce, like one of the posters said. Do an interview regarding what happened in that performance and give coherent, straightforward answers instead of avoiding the question and commenting of the decor. Pull a 1992 Mariah and do something like MTV Unplugged to convince people she isn't just a studio singer (people have thought of Mariah of being a studio singer again).

I think the more realistic success Mariah can have now is critical success, instead of commercial success. I think Frank Ocean would be really good, I absolutely adore his Blonde album. I think he could push Mariah creatively and give her inspiration.

Leave Mariah alone (70,377)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
No, before all of y'all attack me, I don't mean that we should stop posting our opinions. I mean Stella and her team should leave Mariah alone for a while. Leave Mariah and her kids alone, maybe just with her old friends like Lee Daniels, etc. I think while Mariah should be held accountable for her actions, Stella and her team does have an influence on her - especially Stella. No Stella. No Tanaka. No whoever that is. I really, really think Mariah should reflect and think by herself and that she needs a genuine advice from a good friend who isn't on her payroll. I think she's becoming more and more detached from reality and her actions have been more and more questionable. (Fur coats? Really Mariah?)

Re: Test (70,280) (70,292)
by darrian liu from taiwan

No, that's not what I meant. Obviously Mariah still has hits after her Columbia years, what I meant is which songs from her extensive collection of hit songs are the most remembered by the public, not just achieving chart success. Like, which hits stick to people's head to this day. Because not all hits will be remembered long. For example, compare Whitney's I Will Always Love You to How Will I Know. Both are two of Nippy's 11 number ones, but I Will Always Love You is still sung and played across the world, while only some remember How Will I Know. Both are hit songs, but I Will Always Love You certainly has more impact.

There's possibility it will jump significantly up the charts next week, so idk. Not 19th number one, but 28th top 10 is more likely.

This is not to say that Mariah isn't successful after Mottola, nor that she has no impact after Mottola - Heartbreaker video alone is influential. Her work after Mottola is still so influential and amazing, but there's no denying that her impact and commercial success are mostly found in her years in Columbia, or to be more time-specific, before she left Mottola.

Test (70,263)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
Actually, I have an easy test on whether Mariah's career declined after Mottola or not. Try name Mariah's biggest hits, the ones that not only us lambs remember, but the public still adores/remembers. I'm sure that the songs that will be mentioned are: Hero Vision of Love Always Be My Baby Fantasy AIWFCIY Without You Emotions When You Believe Honey We Belong Together Look at the songs. Notice their respective years of release. They are all from Mariah's years in Columbia, save for WBT. It's not to say that Mariah's musicality diminished (I actually prefer her post-Mottola music to her Mottola years, save for Daydream and Butterfly), but the impact of her music has certainly declined after Columbia.

Rihanna's Love on the Brain (70,212)

It's such a good, soulful song. I think if Mariah lets loose on her vocals, she could do really well on an old school R&B/soul song like Rih's Love on the Brain.

Here Comes Santa Claus / The Keys of Christmas (70,211)
by darrian liu from taiwan

I thought she did good and looked banging. I really don't mind her ultra sexy outfits because I realized that I have no say in what a woman should do to her body and what a woman should or shouldn't wear. I'd say let her do anything with her body, as long as it doesn't harm her in any way. About her wearing sexy outfits with her children, children don't sexualize body parts. They probably just thought of it as another piece of clothing. Basically I just wanna focus on her music, her performances, and her career moves instead of her clothing.
