A bunch of stuff they mentioned turned out to be false like a YAR MV, a YAR live performance the day after release, a strong promo plan for YAR to go to #1. Then of course there are rumors about Cardi and all but we'll see where it goes. But in the last few days I see there has been a few new posts indicating Mariah. First was a Butterfly emoji with the words "this March". The account uses Butterfly to indicate Mariah. Then it says MC and Janet Jackson are in the talks of a collaboration and the latest one with a hashtag rumor is a butterfly and snake emoji. Snake is usually now Taylor's avatar for reputation. Releasing YAR a good while after fans had already rallied to take the song to #1 once and then after it free fell wasn't a smart move. To top it off they didn't even promote it after the first day. We can't just expect something to blow up when the effort wasn't put in by the artists to make it blow up. It also wasn't a groundbreaking song that people would lose their mind over it. She will obviously still be involved in the storytelling and the songwriting but she tends to want full control, probably because she felt controlled for the first few years of her career. Also personally speaking I don't need her 90s vocals, I accept Mariah's voice the way it is, and I'm sure she can work around it. She has proved her master vocalist ability, no shame in toning it down to match her current state. If she tries to control everything, she will continue to push her release and then whatever she has ready might be trashed because the music industry is a fast moving one especially on the current environment. Trends come and go. She might have had ideas that were fresh that she took too long to release and someone else already did it and it make yesterday's news. Ariana said in her interviews that Eternal Sunshine took her 3 months to complete. She also kind of did it while shooting for a major movie. Eternal Sunshine is getting great reviews and is said to be cohesive and impactful. So which brings me to why does it take Mariah so long nowadays to release an album? She is no stranger to churning out great albums, and she finished Rainbow in a few months. But what is stopping her from fully investing herself in an album now? Muni Long said in this interview that Made For Me was a demo that she had been sitting on for years before JD and BMC added their touch. Maybe a re-release with a brand new extra disc (I'm being greedy lol) of new songs that never made the final cut - you know she did write and record that album the whole year through 2004. I remember Mariah was missing in action all year, then materialized with that silvery metallic blue dress at an event at the end of the year. If there's one thing about Ariana, her music videos are on point. I love the movie references she puts in some of them. Example TUN had so many iconic scenes from 4 iconic movies. This one was a tribute to "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". I don't know who comes up with the contexts but I hope Mariah picks up on those for her next visuals inspirations. I'll be checking out the album, I hear it's a cohesive and compact one telling a story which I enjoy. I think the reason she won't term it as a "break up" album is because she has to keep it vague. Her and Dalton had signed NDAs as part of their divorce so none can outright bash the other. I'm surprised that her lead single was so different from the mood of the album, that's smart and risky at the same time. Because Ariana has such a huge streaming pull she can do it, if it was Mariah and her lead single was so controversial and different from her actual album people might not be as receptive. I have to say now that I totally get her new album. Why didn't she just say that it was a break-up album for those individuals who have lost? It is now Spotify's biggest most streamed album in a single day with 54.8 millions streams with 8 of the album's tracks in the Spotify Top 10. Also, I wonder what happened between Ariana and Dalton. They can't just drop and move on and expect fans to carry it, especially with a song that's as controversial as "yes, and?". By controversial I mean multiple things - (1) Ariana was accused of being a home wrecker which lead to a huge popularity decline, and her response to it is "yes, and?" so people thought she was just saying "ya I took a man away from his wife and family, and?" (2) Lambs and Arianators were pumped and fully on board them collaborating but were not pleased with the outcome - they thought Mariah was trying to show off and dominate Ari, or shouting or that Mariah sounds like AI or other variations of them not vibing with the song. (3) People who are not familiar with Mariah's discography outside of her popular songs couldn't connect Mariah to a song like this so they couldn't accept it. (4) Arianators had already went hard to get the song to #1 why would they put the same effort on this song for remix when it wasn't that strong of a song either ways and they were gearing for the next single. (5) Mariah had like 2 lines in the remix and didn't add much to the body of the song. These along with many other factors just let the song die. I think if Mariah really wants to have impact with new collaborators it shouldn't be remixes and it should be a song where she has equal weight. Also from what I hear Max Martin wasn't the one Mariah worked with, she worked with her own sound engineer and sent it off to Ariana so I don't know how much input Max had in terms of Mariah's delivery. It's too bad all the lambs and Ariana fans didn't support the YAR more because it could've really carried Mariah through the summer with a song on the radio and streaming platforms. I listened to Ari's new album and I think it's fantastic. She's incorporating a lot of R&B that's been missing in big pop music as of late. I now know that if Mariah would work with Max Martin for an album it would sound magical. Mariah commented on Ariana's post saying she will be listening to the album the moment it drops. I wonder if her kids are big fans of Ari and are the reason Mariah is more interested in her music? If so it could open the doors to a lot more new producers, sounds and ideas.
