About Mara from United States: I'm a Mariah fan since the debut. Been through her entire career with her and may not always agree with every single thing she does, But i will always come to her defense when she gets attacked for being misunderstood. I am not a blind fan and relate Mariah to a sister who I would tell in a minute if something seems wrong or something of that nature. I come to this board to discuss her with people who I feel are true fans and yes, some don't always praise her to the heavens every single moment but we all are here for the same reason and we do adore her.

Who is this guy? Always makes me frustrated to be a "lamb" when these people come out of the woodwork and rag on her for their own benefit because it is "in" to talk about how "looney" Mariah Carey is. It's especially upsetting when you see her trying to turn things around. That video he is talking about that we have all seen, apparently has been since deleted. She has also posted another one seeming more "professional". I am not one for posting or really using twitter or instagram other than looking, but I had to post to this guy. Making a mockery of the song "The Star", acting like his "high notes" even stood a chance to her whistles whether she can hit them like before or not. Just comes across as tactless and crass. I don't know why this guy got to me so much but as I said to him, I have never heard of him before this kick to Mariah Carey, and now this is what I associate his name with. Whatever, sorry for the rant. Must be the wacky weather on the east coast today.

Yes MusicfanJ. There is a definite change in MC. Almost like Butterfly in a way. She is oozing confidence and happiness and is looking amazing. Who knows, maybe she is free from Stella and happy about it. The Mariah we knew was always so private in her personal life so who knows what it is, but she def seems happy. It could be because she is looking amazing and in great voice and is approaching the time of year that she dominates like no other. Seeing her last night mingling with such big names, glamorous fashion and what not. She looked every part the legend she is. So much better than the 1 Oak posing Mariah. I hope this is an indication of good things to come. She sounded amazing on those live feeds and made herself aware to a whole new group of people from just that. She needs to go with it now and continue this way. I really wish I was going to the Beacon this year. I can tell it's going to be an amazing show compared to the mess last year. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't horrible, but nowhere near 14 and 15. She was deep in with Stella and her family hanging out in the audience, Mariah's World was just starting to air, and her voice wasn't near the last two years. This year however, I can tell with how things are going, it's going to be amazing. She really should record one and air it live or at least a performance. Edward, you are right to get tickets this time.

George Michael (78,972) by Mara from United States
Off topic but did anyone in here watch the Freedom documentary? It finally aired in the States last night on Showtime and it was very emotional for me watching. I am still so lost about George. It was nice seeing other artists such as Elton, Mary J, Stevie Wonder and even Liam Gallagher speaking on his raw talent. I couldn't help but wish Mariah was in this too. We know what a fan she always has been and she was featured in a recent article as well as his "A Different Story" documentary in 2005. Perhaps the Sony ties is what may have led her to be out of this one especially since it centered on LWP the album and the court case. George was very brave to take the record company on like that and he regretted it in the end. He did say that not one artist supported him during that time, but he knew they were all watching to see how it ended up, since they could have benefited if he won. Prince was one who did wear Slave on his face and he mentioned support for GM. All in all, it was worth watching and he is so missed. I still wish we got one duet with Mariah and George.

Re: Where is Cruelaa Deville? (78,944) (78,965) by Mara from United States
I thought this for a while now and now Stella is in Paris and seems to be communicating with MC through social media. She posted a little congrats to her with a post on The Star and how it was an honor to be a part of it wth her, or something of that nature. Maybe she got a payout and went on an "empowering vacation" after it. Now we get this new lady who is the same one who was wearing the Packer necklace, MC is back in NY, MC seeming happy out and about, robberies. Something def seems off. I think it was that lady who filmed though since I noticed Bryan seemed back in LA with his dog when that video was posted. Whatever the case, I'm sure there was a confidentiality agreement in place. Also noticed M mentioned in that random video that she just "got her nails done and cut them off". Another thing that was Stella influenced was the long talon like nails. I have a strong feeling she is gone. Time will tell.

Re: Foxwoods (78,831) (78,834) by Mara from United States
I'm wondering if Stella is out of the picture but it's under the radar and nothing formally announced. She has been very silent about the tours and only posted something about one of the movies. I don't think her and Tanaka get along. Silly juvenile thing but noticed he does not follow her on IG. Found that a little odd.

Foxwoods (78,828) by Mara from United States
Wow. What a complete different everything from the VH1 honors "performance". She oozed confidence, she was in good voice, her ensembles were on point and she MOVED. She actually looked happy to be there and it came through in everything. She was not stiff and wasn't afraid to attempting notes, despite a crack in her voice here and there. The imperfections were not even a thing because she kept going and looked every bit the legend she is. She was classy and skipped bodysuits and she just was a complete transformation. She looked nothing like the person on the couch with the GMB interview two weeks ago. I think we are in for a great Christmas season and she is ready. Was anyone at the show? I was going to go and seeing that it was rather a short set list, I still wish I made it. I saw a clip where she said a few things before randomly singing a line of "we are lambily", she thanks her fans for being there for her through the good and bad and always being there for her. She goes on to say that she will always be right there for us and will always be our friend. Such beautiful words and I even got teary watching it as I have always felt MC was just like a best friend with her music being medicine for my soul all throughout life. Very proud of MC last night.

Re: Gospel album (78,709) (78,711) by Mara from United States
I know it may be an unpopular idea to some, but I would love a jazz album. It would be wonderful to have an album of songs like The Wind, CTIITAA, Lullaby of Birdland, Don't Ask. Mariah and jazz go hand and hand. Her voice is so husky and sultry and I just hope one day she would record one just for fun or whatever. CTIITAA and the entire composure of that song is simply magical. It sounds timeless. I remember when she had that promo release for MIAMTEC and the orchestra behind her speaking, I thought we were going to get some beautiful songs with strings and her voice stripped. Just something I know she would shine on.

Re: Touring (78,661) (78,663) by Mara from United States
Hmm, very good observation about Stella and the promotion. Now that you mention it, she has been very quiet. Perhaps if she is still around, she is not in charge of her musical career. Wishful thinking to think she may be out completely. Maybe now that her name is associated with the All I Want movie and other behind the scene things, that is enough. Doubtful, but you never know. Speaking of MC in business with Stella, anyhow hear anything more on the makeup line her and Stella were going to do? Remember when they were seen with a realtor looking at storefronts in L.A.?

Touring (78,659) by Mara from United States
I have to admit when I saw it last night that now we have a #1's tour on top of the Christmas shows overseas and in North America and Vegas. A possible Butterfly tour as well. She is going to burn out. First she goes from hardly ever touring, to touring non stop. This is enough to wear anyone out. What about the kids too? It's either all about the money or Mariah herself does not want to sit and relax, reflect. She hasn't slowed down since the divorce. I just hop she is healing and not running from something. Not to sound all "deep" or whatever. These kids perhaps are "citizens of the world" as she has said and perhaps do love to travel, but this seems a bit excessive. Since the Packer days, we haven't really seen the Capri Mariah on the boats like she used to do for some down time. They are pushing her too much and she isn't getting any younger. Tom Petty just finished his 40th Anniversary Tour last Monday and the tour started in April. He played 53 shows and did a show in Hyde Park as well. He was finally going to take some down time and family time and we know what happened. Again, I am not trying to be negative and am on the flip side happy she is out there touring, but it does wear on you and can be grueling. She really should take a little break for her.

Re: Memoirs (78,521) (78,527) by Mara from United States
Billy you are so right about Memoirs being a great "fall album". There is something about BGK and HATEU, those ethereal whistles in Angels Prelude, Languishing. I love that album. Butterfly is another great fall album. Those were the days MC always released her singles in the summer and her albums dropped in the fall. It was such a perfect formula.

Beacon (78,520) by Mara from United States
So do we think she will add a few Beacon dates this December? It doesn't seem possible unless she goes for the beginning of December before Vegas and the other shows. I know some of the articles mentioned NYC, but that could just be because of the previous years. I wish she would confirm it either way if she indeed knows either way by now. It's something she has done since the start of these shows and she made it seem like it was an annual thing "at the Beacon". The last few years tickets went on sale later in October. Anyone have any "inside info"?

Re: Mamariah (78,470) (78,475) by Mara from United States
I'm not sure who you are referring to here, but just in case it was me, I'll take a stab at it and say I simply mentioned Tanaka in reference to whipping her into shape. Right now, he seems to be the closest to her and he is physically fit along with being a dancer. Therefore, it's natural to wonder or make him the go to inspiration or get her into wanting to get into shape. We have seen it before with Mariah, that the people around her often rub off and or influence her. That was all I meant by my comment. If you read my post, I was actually thinking of other things that can possibly going on with someone who is human like the rest of us but just so happens to be a legendary diva at the same time.

Re: Why was Mariah on stage? (78,431) (78,437) by Mara from United States
I really don't know what is going on right now. Stella seems a little MIA at the moment and last night we got a tweet by her almost "talking to Mariah by social media". It just felt different. I honestly thought MC would really bring it last night since it was the one category she always wanted to be included in and self professed her love for all these years. Also since the Butterfly anniversary was on the day they taped and she was in a good state with all the love and respect she was getting online, I was hoping it would come through in her performance or speech. We got neither. One thing about the Mariah of yesteryear was you could always count on her to get into her performances by her arms going or her facial expression or her legs moving even if there were in place. After seeing that performance or whatever you want to call it, it makes me really think something is terribly wrong. Something more is going on and I don't like to speculate, but she may very well have health issues we know nothing about. Medication can do all sorts of things to your body. She may have something she hasn't addressed, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease, there are over over 100 different kinds, and they all require medication as well as steroids that cause bloating and stiffness. Mix that with her stagefright on live TV. I honestly don't know. I do know she mentioned when the babies were born she had problems with carpal tunnel in her hands and that is a form of auto immune, including Lupus. I suffer from that, and it is crazy on your body. I also had carpal tunnel when my daughter was born, as the pregnancy brought it out. She could be prone to any of those, as she is human after all. If none of those, she could be on antidepressants or something. She looked almost zoned. If this is what is going on, there is no shame in that, but she should not be thrown on tour until she gets the rest of help she needs to get well. If it's none of those, then the corset is too damn tight and she is afraid to move thinking it might come undone. I don't know. I do know that when she was filming MW, her body was amazing and she moved very well onstage. Her confidence oozed. Tanaka, you need to help MC and get her back into shape, she will feel much better physically and mentally. If she is drinking and mixing meds, that's not good either. She just looks lost and very sad. I hate to see her dragged like this, but totally get why it pisses people off. She took a spot up there, being honored, and she literally just stood there and was walked around, led by the arm. It's like she is in a trance. Then we got no speech, no acceptance of who she was grateful to, who inspired her, any inside stories on collaborations. This could have been such a golden moment and it felt like a completely wasted opportunity. We never know what goes on behind closed doors, if she is going through something, I am praying for her.

Butterfly20 (78,387) by Mara from United States
I am loving all the love and reviews this amazing, timeless album has been getting. This album is her defining moment, her mark, it was simply perfection in every way. From the album cover, photo, colors, font, to every detail, every song, every harmony, every poetic word she placed in every song. It was like a painting, that none of us needed eyes to see. Not to mention how liberated she was in every way during this time. She had all of this, plus Walter to only add to the magic that was and is Butterfly. What more could you ask for? These "leaks" we have gotten last night are "transcending", they are heavenly. Her voice was literally all that was needed. I swear the music takes away from the song. I have never heard anything or anyone like it. She is such a gift, I only wish she kind of took a little better care of it along the way. I know that is easier said than done, living in the real world. Either way, she still has the best voice not to mention ear for music and harmonies. Just longing for more of it while she is still capable of doing so. I saw how active she was on Twitter today and you can tell she was truly loving the love Butterfly was getting and reliving a lot of the memories today. Between that and the honor she is getting at the Hip Hop Honors, I hope she is at a good place with her self esteem and goes out there and either gives a stellar performance or acceptance.

I love it. Her voice sounds great and the lyrics are inspirational when a partner could make you feel feel so low. She is going to pick herself back up. Toni looks amazing right now, and as a fellow person that has Lupus, she is a great inspiration. Good for her.

Mariah Christmas in UK (78,275) by Mara from United States
After being blessed enough to see Mariah at the Beacon in NYC the past three years, I am so happy for you guys in Manchester and London for finally being able to see MC during her favorite time - Christmas. There is something magical about Mariah and Christmas and when you put the two of them together it makes for something wonderful. She really loves everything about it, and it really shows and makes an event or performance that should not be missed. I really hope for my own sake and those on the east coast or those willing to travel, that she continues her "annual" residency at the beautiful Beacon Theatre this year as well. Even for a smaller amount of dates, whatever. Mariah and NYC coincide and it wouldn't be right without her doing a show or two here. Afterall, she did say from her first announcement that this was her "first annual show" I can tell you, it is a show that is not to be missed. Last year was slightly underwhelming than 14 and 15 but wonderful non the less. I only wish she offered the meet and greet packages at the Beacon. There is really something magical about those Beacon shows, especiall the Gold and Silver packages that allow you in that iconic Theatre a few hours before showtime to appreciate its beauty. Please MC come back for a few dates, but if not, to all our U.K. family, get those tickets and enjoy that special show.

Re: Mariah inspired by Whitney? (78,204) (78,206) by Mara from United States
You are absolutely right about Emotions being the album that really set them apart. Emotions is the album that showcased the different things Mariah could do with her voice, writing, composing. That entire haunting feel on that album was what pulled me in more to Mariah. Her songs and voice just took you someplace otherworldly.

Mariah/Whitney (78,180) by Mara from United States
So I don't know if anyone here watched the Whitney special on Showtime this weekend, but I did and it was OK. They made it seem like Whitney would still be alive today if she was able to be herself and love who she wanted to love. It went into her love life and how they didn't want certain people around her, how controlling her mother was, how the record label wanted her to be "more pop" more appealing to all audiences and not as "black sounding". She finally wanted to change things when she released I'm Your Baby Tonight. Being a fan originally of Whitney, it was interesting yet very sad. It also got me to revisit a lot of Whitney's music and the album Whitney, which I still love to this day. Songs like , Where You Are, Just The Lonely, For The Love of You. The sound of her voice in those songs still takes me away. I can't help but hear a lot of similarity to the debut Mariah as Whitney had to have influenced MC. I still remember the somewhat rivalry in the beginning of MC's career, especially at award shows when Whitney was sitting in the audience with Bobby and members of New Eddition and they announced Mariah's name. Of course they have long since came together and became friends, but I often wonder why Mariah didn't say Whitney as an influence as much as she did Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, when clearly you can hear the similar singing style. I suppose it's because Mariah's early influence probably was those people as Whitney was mid 80's. Perhaps, it was MC's record label that wanted her to sound more Whitney like and the more records she released she steered further away from that sound. Could be that Whitney was looked at as her competition and she wasn't in control of her original sound, much like Whitney and therefore wasn't happy with certain material. So many interviews of MC she can be heard saying that when someone is new, they always have to compare them to someone on the music scene, hence Whitney. I just can hear a lot of Whitney's formula on MC's debut even with the rock/guitar sound on You Need Me and So Emotional. Tommy used the same formula to get himself his own version of Whitney. Although his version was so much more, as she wrote and produced her own music and had so many layers to her voice. I'll always love them both as Whitney was who got me into singing, but Mariah will always be my girl. I connected with her on so many levels. Thank God they recorded their duet when they did. They will forever be the voices who changed it all.
