Mariah signed to RCA UK (98,904)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
It does say on the RCA UK website as of 2021 that she signed with them and she is listed on the artist roster. Weird that she isn't listed on the USA website for RCA.

I don't think Mariah has a record label unfortunately. RCA is there because Khalid is signed to them and RCA Inspiration is Kirk's label.

I wonder too. Especially since he was instrumental in the Whitney duet. As well as respected by many of Mariah's favorites. The only conclusion I can think of is Mariah is very controlling in her work and I've heard Babyface takes a strong reigns when he's in the studio (much like the Neptunes) so it's easier for him to work with artists like Toni Braxton who needs the heavy handed guidance.

Mariah should have stayed with Roc Nation (98,859)

I am sincerely worried about her next few releases. Never mind a studio album, does she even have a record label?

Portrait and In The Mix are the other two original compositions by Daniel Moore and Mariah. The songs are ok, including FILAC. But they are more adult music than hit music. There's just no pow.

Music video fail? (98,854)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I know MC likes to be the star of her own videos and wow does she look stellar in this new one. However I'm wondering if for this particular song she could have released a creative video with real people who are actually in love or falling in love (at Christmas time). Then in December she hits us with the Joseph Khan directed performance for the Apple special. That way there would really be something for everyone. And as much of a good actress she is she does not display the feeling of falling in love in this video.

I'm with you. So far I don't think Daniel has the x-factor. Competent musician but no hit factor. I would have liked to hear her version of Where Are You Christmas this season. Oh well. It's too bad she cannot reconnected with Walter A. Even just for Christmas time.

FILAC (98,843)
by T from USA
| |

It sounds [like] a Christmas song Mariah would have made after Butterfly in 1997. It doesn't totally sound Christmasy. I wonder if this was just a love song for her upcoming album that she loved so much she decided to give it the Christmas treatment by changing some words to fit the festive theme? Would make sense as her Christmas stuff will get more attention than anything else these days. Especially if she really wanted the world to hear it instead of it getting lost on a non holiday album down the line. I like the video but it's funny how her most comfortable looking scenes are the ones with her in the recording booth. That always has been her most comfortable place in life.

Can you ask her if she will consider Dallas Austin and Walter Afanasieff? Also Drake as a feature. Would love it.

Go easy on Mariah (98,765)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
After reading her memoirs and now hearing Easy On Me I realize just how much the song fits Mariahs story too. She was just a child. A song like this after the breakdown, maybe the first single on Charmbracelet would have killed. It asks for forgiveness while still explaining her point of view. Good song. (Would have even worked on Butterfly or Rainbow.)

If Mariah still had the 1990-2000 voice or even the 2005 return of the voice sound in her chords than a power ballad would do something good for Mariah. But a whispered With You type ballad won't cut it. Something like Easy On Me which asks forgiveness may not burn up the top 40 charts for Mimi but it would still find an audience and move album units. I would love to hear her and Walter Afanasieff after all these years create a timeless classical piece.

Re: And isn't ironic, don't you think? (98,753) (98,757)

I agree. Why I worry Mariah has lost the plot is because in the old days she would have never put a Cannon inspired diss track side by side with her greatest accomplishments. Who heard that track and approved it? Who even thought it was good? She literally could have put All I Live For or Out Here On My Own in its place and it would have been 100x the quality of Infinity.

Mariah a Christmas act (98,739)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Is anyone else slightly concerned that the younger generation of music consumers are only going to perceive Mariah to be a Christmas act? I can imagine the marketing behind this special will be as big as last years, and since 2019 it seems that she's really only visible music wise at Christmas time. An album like Caution didn't even get the attention it so deserved, maybe people really only check for her after Thanksgiving.

Hi all, I just wanted to say I appreciate this board so much and the webmaster for doing an amazing job. I've posted on other boards in the past but none quite have the same love and devotion as Mariah Archives. I will only be exclusively posting and being on this board from here on out. I'm excited at the prospect of Mariah joining back up with Virgin. I thought Sony was the return home, but no, it's Virgin. Capital records will look good on her.

Isn't it ironic (98,401)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Isn't it ironic isn't just an Alanis Morissette song. It's the way I view Mariah escaping a potentially career ending, controlling situation with Tommy to only end up with Stella, who one could surmise was more controlling (keeping possession of Mariah's phone so LA Reid couldn't get ahold of her). Stella came this close to ending Mariah's career for good.

Re: Someones Ugly Daughter's voice (98,368) (98,380)
by T from USA

That's what I mean, yes the stress could make you loose your voice (see Shania) but Mariah's was more of a damaged quality thing, drugs and alcohol wouldn't have done that so fast after his control was up. (Actually his control lasted up until [Butterfly].) It happened specifically between [Daydream] and [Butterfly]. The only thing she did in between those two was a rock album where she was seriously lashing out with her voice, to keep her sanity. We don't know how much she pushed her voice in the making of that. Maybe that is the reason she will never ever release it.

Someones Ugly Daughter's voice (98,363)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
As has been cited many times by fans and music critics alike, Mariah's voice changed somewhere in between the [Daydream] and [Butterfly] albums. I have heard theories that the gruelling non stop singing live on the [Daydream] tour did it. But what if her voice change was due to secretly recording SUD at the same time? What if she over did it, or the rock style of singing did something to her chords? Something to ponder.

Re: I miss Stella (98,339) (98,341)
by T from USA

Stella probably sold it to Mariah as the next Kardashian's. Mariah would get super popular again and use it as a way to get new music heard. I'm sure if it was good and became a runaway hit, people would be praising Stella for it. Unfortunately all parties involved have zero talent for making "reality" shows.

Mariah was Britney (98,284)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I see no difference in the control between Britney and Mariah's 1990-1997 years. She had to perform when told to, record when told. The only difference to me is Mariah was more street savvy and was able to navigate her way out of it. By the time Mariah had her breakdown she was almost 32 years old without a domineering parent to try and swoop up control. Just be thankful that a Stella like character did not enter the scene in 2001/2002.

The Rainbow era lead to the Glitter era. A Mariah that was unfocused and musically everywhere. All over the map without anyone steering the ship. I felt the same about the Stella era. I think this has more to do with Mariah being so scared from her early days at Sony she has made the decision that nobody will tell her what to do anymore. The brief period when she listened to LA Reid/Benny Medina we got TEOM. Mariah's talent is music. Not management so why does she insist on only keeping "yes men" in her company.

Re: Carlos Santana collab (98,068) (98,071)
by T from USA

So much potential was squandered in the making of E=MC2. The world was waiting after TEOM and she could've experimented with Santana and the likes to make some stellar music. Instead she played it way to safe and had JD do like five songs out of fourteen.
