"A Beyonce fan gleefully sent it to me at 9AM." I knew this had something to do with those Beyonce insecure fans you insist on hanging out with. Just another weapon to try and shoot down Mariah, to try and undermine her sheer greatness facts (all caps). Beyonce has never, can never and will never be heralded the same way Mariah Carey is. Mariah is the music industry and music personified. Point blank period. Now since you do not have the presence of mind to defend Miss Carey. Here's some shade for those "friends" of yours. When Beyonce has a Diamond Album, then they can speak, until then. Secondly, "The Emancipation of Mimi" was everything Beyoncé's "Dangerously in Love" album never was and never will be, the album she wishes was hers. You better come correct Randy. Know who you Stan. Beyonce is not the one getting inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, it is Mariah Carey.

Ditzy maybe, going off on a tangent maybe, incoherent definitely not. But you should also notice she was nervous and aware of the time before she outstays her welcome. I think it is a case of over planning what to say (thus the notes on paper) and then in the real moment, it does not quite go as planned. Lol. Randy you only show up to complain about Mariah, go through your old posts and see if I'm wrong.

Thank you MusicfanJ, I'm glad you understand my point of view and see where I'm coming from. I want to see Mariah succeed so bad, pull a Cher moment or even something bigger, in this social media time we live in (I was one of those who discovered Cher from "Believe" that record was so impactful for her, she gained new fans and recognition). If anything else for the new Lambs that have never experienced an era where she was inescapably on top. But instead she's being reduced to a one trick pony that happens only at Christmas (you've seen those memes of Mariah Carey defrosting after Thanksgiving lol). After such a stellar career, the "Queen of Christmas" title (which I love and not complaining about at all) should be just one of the different facets of the artist she is, an all round music genius in a league of her own.

We hold Mariah to high standards because that's just the kinda of artist she is, and we know what she is capable of. "Caution", while being a very good record, was vocally not a "Mariah Carey" album. And yes I am referring to "The Voice" it's nowhere on Caution. That's what people want to hear, heck that's what I (all caps) want to hear. There should be a balance between what Mariah wants to put out and what us fans are willing to spend our hard earned money (all caps) on, that's the reason "Butterfly" worked in a massive way. She gained new fans but did not alienate the old ones. I've noticed her best years were her marketed years when she was under supervision, even "The Emancipation of Mimi" her big comeback was guided by L.A Reid, an executive with experience and successful track record with other artists. The labels know what sells and what people want to hear and delivered and she delivered, quality music as well, while still sticking to her roots and the kind of music she loves – R&B/Hip-hop. You cannot and I repeat cannot compare an album like "Rainbow" to "Butterfly", the difference is clear as day.

Well written post. I'm so glad Mariah shared that very private message from Leontyne Price with us her fans and the rest of the world. That was one of the highlights in the book for me. Another was the moment with Maureen, who complimented her about her singing voice.

"How does Taylor Swift have twice as many Grammys as MC?" The same way Beyonce is the most awarded female in the music industry - industry politics, so don't think too much about that. Certain artists tend not (all caps) to play by the rules that "the powers that be" enforce in the music industry, Mariah is high on that list. The late Prince also known as "The artist" is also on that list. Everything they accomplished was because they are musical geniuses first of all (the genuine gift of being able to create music) but also worked hard for, almost like it was an uphill battle. I have utmost respect for Mariah and Prince and the likes who played on their own terms, ended up owing their catalogues (this is very important as an artist) and yet remained relevant. Mariah is a very calculated and sharp business mind, who has thrived in a cutthroat industry and carved out her own lane. She is where a lot of artists can only wish they were. The respect is already here and so will that 20th number one, trust and believe.

The Roof feat. Brandy (100,171)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
[It's] funny how [it's] the same song but the mood has changed. The original one on "Butterfly" is sad, dark and at the same time solemn and [lamentative] but she has changed this one. Its happier, "freer" and reflective instead like she's moved on, you know that feeling of heartbreak when you revisit and reflect and acknowledge that in that moment (which is what this song captured) the pain was real. I look at the two versions as [past] and present and acknowledge and understand the need for her to remake this song now. I love this version as well and [kudos] to Brandy, she killed it in those background vocals.

That award show is on its way out, something I predicted a while back, this year was a conscious effort to [boycott] it as you already indicated, there were not seasoned artists in attendance. The "Mariah Carey" award is gonna replace the "Grannies". Lol. [Because] lets face it, Mariah Carey is (all caps) the music industry. She's that [girl].

Latto/Mariah remix (100,026)
by Terna from Nigeria

I Love it. Mariah adds a whole new level and vibe to the song, making it more satisfying with Latto getting the backing she lacks on the original version, and those background vocals? Pure fire without being overpowering. This could easily go number one.

"Caution" like most album title tracks isn't single material so I would say "Migrate", but I also don't think it would've blown up either. Personally I prefer "Caution".

Hero (99,849)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
As the saying goes, "sometimes less is [more]". "Hero" embodies this saying and its impact is undeniable. [It's] a simple song, sung in an easy to sing along key, void of all the extra background vocal parts Mariah ballads tend to have and it works. It is her signature song, well at least one of them, and just one of those songs people tend to know word for word, like a hymn sung generation after generation. It really is a special song and for me what made me a fan. I gravitate towards the version I heard first, the [Proctors Theatre] version and I'm still amazed years later.

That process can also be used for audio production as well. I believe that there is an MTV Unplugged audio CD, if I recall correctly that sounds studio polished and even got "I'll be there" released from it. Same process different facets.

What are you saying sorry for? You didn't hit any point. Dubbed and pre-recorded are two different things. Dubbed refers to the music production and getting the recording up to par, for a professional sound where it can be released on a compilation record or for digital downloads. Pre-recorded leans more towards lip syncing. The clips I posted, Mariah is singing live and in one take (and if you cannot tell by now, you [sic] an OG Lamb oh well) which was my original point. The girl can sang [sic], especially live, in one take, if need be without rehearsal (Aretha Divas duet ) point blank period.

Celine [sounds] just like the record but Mariah sounds better (all caps) than the record, a [feat] she's repeated countless times. What we're not gonna do is pretend Mariah can't sing a song in one take ala a live performance setting, [because] old girl is a beast in her own right. You've been listening to those "friends" of yours too long. 1. Hero (Proctor's theater 1993) 2. Emotions (MTV Unplugged 1992, cleaner sharper high notes) 3. You're Mine (BET Honors Awards 2014) 4. Fly Like a Bird (Grammy Awards 2006) 5. Through The Rain (Shinning through the rain MTV) 6. We Belong Together (MTV Movie Awards 2005, The tonight show David Letterman) 7. The Distance (Jimmy Fallon show 2018) 8. I'll Be Loving You Long Time (MTV awards Japan 2008, Teen Choice Awards) 9. Vision of Love (BET Blueprint) 2005 10. My Saving Grace (Oprah Winfrey Show 2003) 11. I Stay in Love (AMA 2008) 12. Can't Take That Away (Divas Live 2000 A tribute to Diana Ross) I'll stop here, there many more that can be added to the list.

I love Céline a lot actually, have all her English records as well, and yes as some members here have pointed out "Falling into you" is her best album. It also was my first Céline album. Lol. Having said this, I would say that she's not a versatile singer like Mariah is. The ability Carey has to dabble into multiple [genres] and come across as seasoned and believable, Céline lacks and for the most part can come across as one-dimensional.

I always look forward to Jermaine's music production and collaborations, that man is a musical genius and has that creative magic with Mariah. The very first song they wrote together, is one of her massive hits. That in itself is a flex.

Reminds me so much of the quiet before the "Emancipation" storm that didn't let up until at least mid 2006, and that era began early, say around February 2005, and poor miss "I don't know her" was its first casualty. Haha.

This had been on my mind for quite sometime on and off. It is time for those numbers to be updated, The first album especially has been 9x Platinum since the early to mid 2000's that should have crossed well over 10 million by now being that Mariah is still relevant and active even today, about the only act that debuted in 1990 still releasing stuff. I think there should be a push by her team to get RIAA to update her catalogue's numbers, not just the first album.

Oh my. Haha. I never, ever (all caps) listen to new Mariah Carey music (or new music in general period) with other folk around for this exact same reason. Distractions and opinions that could marr your own thought process and opinions as they form while you're listening, it can be very annoying. For "The Emancipation of Mimi" I took my time and played that album on my discman first using sound blocking earphones for this reason and boy was I blown away. Then the next day sure enough while playing the record, friends in droves came around and everyone kept chiming in opinions, but I had already formed mine over 24 hours before and was even singing along already. Sorry about your "Circles" bad experience. That's one of the most powerful vocals on that record, give it another chance.

I knew "Through the rain" wasn't going to be a big hit immediately I heard It, as it kind of came across as "cliché" for the lack of a better word. But I also knew even in that moment that it was an important recording for her and would be one of those songs that would stand the test of time. I can say it has and its become a classic the casual listener knows, but doesn't even know the singer, Kind of like "Hero". It's sad that was the last true Pop ballad she recorded as she ditched the format entirely and I miss those type of songs from her.
