Mariah at Live 8

Mariah Carey performed at the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park in London. A galaxy of rock and roll stars graced stages across the globe on Saturday for what is being billed as the greatest music show ever, in a bid to put pressure on leaders of the group of eight major industrialised nations meeting in Scotland next week to do more to alleviate poverty, particularly in Africa.

Live 8, an expanded version of the Live Aid sensation 20 years ago, took place in 10 cities and four continents, kicking off in Tokyo in the east and ending in North America in the west. At about 9:45 pm GMT Dawn French introduced Mariah who came on stage to perform "Make It Happen" with an African kids choir, "Hero" and "We Belong Together". At the end, Mariah joined all the performers in London led by sir Paul McCartney to sing "Hey Jude".

Here is a story by PJ Winter: "I just this second got home from the Hyde park, London Live 8 concert and it was absoloutley amazing. Skipping everyone else and onto Mariah I was at first worried with Make It Happen, although she sang the verses fine when it came to holding the notes she didn't. Then Hero. She did it really nicely. We Belong Together was the suprise of the night and she did it perfectley. I've already heard fans going on about how it was mimed but all I gotta say is you people dissapoint me. It was 100% live, Live 8 rules state it must be live, all artists were live, the performance was live and not mimed in any part. Bob Geldof wouldn't have allowed it. She belted, she gave us a suprise high note on 'who', she held the note, she worked it. Mariah was truly amazing."
