Three million expected for NYC fireworks

More than three million people are expected to turn out in New York City tonight, for what's being billed as the nation's largest fireworks show. A spokesman for Macy's, which is sponsoring the event, says 40,000 pyrotechnic shells are set to explode over the East River. There also will be a performance from Mariah Carey.

Robin Hall says the show is ranked number-one for scale and creativity by the American Pyrotechnic Association. Al Roker will host the event, which is being televised on NBC. In Washington, a concert on the National Mall will include performances by Gloria Estefan, the Beach Boys and the O'Jays.
