2013 The Art Of Letting Go (103,721)

I love it, T. This could have been the tracklisting to propell TAOLG to platinum status. Great choice with BGK as track #1.

I've always seen this record as an old school vibe album so obviously I would include Mesmerized, which was recorded in 2012. I would've also loved Up Out Of My Face on that album as it's a way of letting someone go. Imagine the duet with Nicki at that stage during American Idol? All in all I'd keep the album short and sweet but impactful. PS. I always pictured Betcha, Hate U, and It's a Wrap also perfect fits for it. Look at the story this album would tell about her relationship:
1. Betcha Gon' Know 2. Faded 3. Up Out My Face (ft. Nicki Minaj) 4. H.A.T.E.U. 5. Dedicated (ft. Nas) 6. Beautiful (ft. Miguel) 7. You're Mine 8. You Don't Know What To Do 9. Camouflage 10. Mesmerized 11. Cry 12. Meteorite 13. It's A Wrap (ft. Mary J Blige) 14. The Art Of Letting Go
PS. I still think Obsessed on Einstein would've been a game changer.

Do you think that there are 8-10 TEOM songs in the vault for a 30th anniversary?

How tragic that would have been, considering 13+ years later MOAIA is out-streaming MC2, all her albums in fact except Daydream and TEOM.
I don't think Obsessed would have helped E=MC2. Obsessed was a hit because it was a lead single. Otherwise, it would have met the same fate as IBLYLT, which I thought was a great single and deserved better promo.

The Emancipation music videos were outstanding. I remember Don't Forget About Us was constantly showing in bars on the screens. Looking back: the quality of the TEOM videos was truly something special. TMB was also, in itself, something quite varnished and different. Then, er... yeah. Yeah. Er. Send in the clowns.

I remember when DFAU came out. I was like where did this song come from. It had everything you wanted in a pop Rnb ballad. Radio played it so much. And don't forget about that bridge. No one had done something like that before.

It's not just the lyrics, but the whole vibe of the songs on MOAIA simply don't match the mood she was inspired by for E. Does the album flow with those MOAIA songs added on if you looked at them lyrically? Still probably not. I guess you could see it by lining them up to play next in Itunes or Spotify etc. MOAIA was just a whole different vibe. Think about Cool On You, you can clearly tell that it was a 2008 cut without hesitation vs Obsessed.

I guess you do make a point. But I actually think Obsessed, It's a Wrap do match the other juvenile lyrics of other songs on the album, maybe they could be joined by Up Out My Face and Standing O and that would've rounded out Einstein nicely. (UOMF actually references Harvard, it basically writes itself.) The autotune on those songs also would lend some continuity. I just think having TMB, Obsessed and IAW all on one album would make E=MC2 a streaming monster like Daydream.

I don't know, Obsessed was a last minute addition to MOAIA after Bagpipes was released and she wrote it in response specifically. I don't think that sonically, it makes sense for those 4 songs to be on E=MC2 because her voice had changed again by that point (it sounded fuller vs the songs on E), and they just don't flow well with the party atmosphere she had with that album. DFAU etc. worked well for TEOM because there was still a sonic theme going that she was after and they fit well with the rest of the album. Those four just don't go on E.

We all know the tragic story of E=MC2's trajectory after the first single, the disappearance of Mimi and then the re-emergence in depression. In hindsight, with the lack of commercial success she's had since (except Christmas), one really can look back at the mistakes made like not releasing Migrate as the second single and think it was her last big change at commercial dominance. Would've a re-release like she did with TEOM made a big difference? Would it have sparked new life for the album? Imagine Obsessed was the fourth single from a repackaged album. I think I would've taken that over MOAIA.
1. Migrate (ft. T-Pain) 2. Touch My Body 3. Cruise Control (ft. Damian Marley) 4. I Stay In Love 5. Side Effects (ft. Young Jeezy) 6. I'm That Chick 7. Love Story 8. I'll Be Lovin You Long Time 9. Last Kiss 10. Thanks For Nothing 11. OOC 12. For The Record 13. Bye Bye 14. I Wish You Well

I'm not one for pathetic showboating on X or other platforms but Mariah has, has she not, posted before about awful things that have happened, such as unlawful killings be the police, etc.
Thus, I wonder: where is the message of solidarity with the good people of Israel who have been subjugated to terrorism on a mass scale by fundamentalist terrorist psychopaths?
Are the people of Israel not worthy of mention or support?

Merry Christmas eligible for diamond (103,710)
by jaker20 from US

With the holiday season gearing up, it will be diamond anytime now, her 3rd diamond album. Her debut album has been stuck at 9x platinum for nearly 20 years now. That could potentially be her 4th, making her the first with 4 diamond albums. But she doesn't even bother with that album anymore.
But anyway, congrats Mimi.

I'm somewhat confused. Mariah has been pulling the same shit for a decade and everytime I called it out I was a "hater"* etc. Has something changed dramatically?
What irks me is Mariah always seems to (struggle to) get to a semi-tone or tone under the key in which the song is. She sounds very out of tune and the pipes quite damaged. She would be better off just lower all tracks and attempting to sing them. If she can't sing them, she should stop taking people's money to watch her stand still and give half-arse performances.
But this is all old news: I was writing this dissenting opinion 10 years ago. What's changed to make make it a consensus?
*Incidentally, there is nothing wrong with "hate": it is a perfectly valid emotion, but "hater" has now become a pejorative of the Wokerati to dismiss dissenting opinion by labelling the speaker of bad character for having said opinion.
Basically, fascism.

Some artists have backing tracks to give their voices a break on taxing tours, they are human after all. When you're lipping more than singing and the live parts are subpart, that's a problem. Different from Madonna and Beyonce, Mariah concerts are centered on her voice and it's perfectly ok to expect consistent decent singing.

Well we don't really know when Mariah records but it is clear that she saves things for later dates and times. But I have a feeling it was done after she already worked with the Dream on TMB. I think probably early 2009. That's why I wonder if a re-release of Einstein might have been the better way to go (instead of recording a whole album and waiting until the Fall of 2009). Even if the original E=MC2's track list had Obsessed as track 7 to replace Love Story, and It's a Wrap as track 9 instead of Last Kiss, in my opinion it would've fit so well and been the greatest Mimi album ever. (Betcha and Hate U would fit better on the Elusive Chanteuse.)

MC was having vocal issues long before 2020. I don't think her vocal difficulties are because of Covid-19. She should just sit down with Oprah for a tell all Oprah special. She is not fooling the Lambs or the general public anymore. Will she tell us what is going on with her voice? At the end of the day, she owes her loyal fans a great live performance without lip syncing.

Einstein re-release in 2009 instead (103,699)

Bye Bye 14. I Wish You Well
15. Obsessed 16. Betcha Gon' Know 17. H.A.T.E.U. 18. It's a Wrap

No more tours. Just one more studio album is all I want for Christmas. And then just strictly focus on anniversary releases like Daydream30, Butterfly30, Rainbow30. Just keep cementing that legacy Mimi, like you've been doing. No need for live singing anymore. I wonder if Mariah secretly attempted the voice repair surgery with no success?

Then how is she selling out MSG and getting paid for private concerts? Why does the media make a big fuss about her doing anything?
