About DK from USA:

Number 1 - cause for Celebration (102,019) by DK from USA
What a great run for Mariah - Number 1 on Billboard 100, continuing to break records; Songwriters Hall of Fame induction; Number 1 living artist on Rolling Stone's 200 Greatest Singers of All Time list. Congratulations MC.

P.S. I hear new music is coming in 2023 - certainly the public stage had been primed for what's to come.

Toronto etc (101,824) by DK from USA
My sister (consider her general public vs. part of the lambily) was invited to attend MC's second show in Toronto (12/11). I was curious about her experience. She said MC came out 1.5 hours late, had many ensemble changes and had a glam team on stage attending to her - all of which my sister found off-putting. I asked how was the singing and she said Mariah sounded and looked great and the moment with her daughter was very sweet and caring. In comparison with other artists she has seen live, she found Mariah's show overall disappointing as it was more about "her diva persona" and less about the music or ability to genuinely connect with fans live.

In one of the online clips (from the first night in Toronto) Mariah stated that she had not rehearsed "Miss You Most..." (end of this clip), which I find quite odd for such a big venue/show with a televised CBS/Paramount deal.

I have seen her in multiple shows in the past and she has been great. I rarely comment here but I sense more personal negativity than constructive criticism. At the end of the day, Mariah is a business entity and a private human being.

Perhaps different people have different reasons for being here, but my primary reason is to learn something niche/rare about Mariah (including tips about upcoming projects) that is not already available to the general public.

Last US show, Caution tour plus board activity (89,049) by DK from USA
Got to see MC in Bethlehem, PA - her last US stop for Caution Tour (this was my 4th time seeing her throughout her career). My first impression of the venue is that it felt super intimate (2nd row seating) but apparently it houses 6000 guests (not as small as I thought). MC came out a bit late, around 9:15 and curtains went down around 10:30. In a way it felt like a quick show (she didn't sing songs like Portrait or With You). Overall, she was fantastic.

Re: Music biz today (84,581) (84,591) by DK from USA
Wasn't saying much other than sharing an article. Overall, the music business is in crisis - the market has become too accessible and diluted and the audience attention span is quite low. The last big moments I recall were Adele (Mariah has been there, done that at her prime), Taylor Swift/Rihana (again MC has done the popularity thing at their respective ages already), Despachito which tied MC record, etc. I don't know of any artists of Mariah's caliber (and longivity) who have surprised the business scene in terms of numbers (maybe Paul McCartney's recent nr. 1 in 36 years or Barbra Streisand's last album going nr. 1? - note... no singles mentioned here). Perhaps there is hope for the album depending on who else is releasing that same week or two.

Music biz today (84,570) by DK from USA
In line with success expectations towards MC’s new music here is a good article that pretty much describes a very different industry landscape where flopping seems to be the the new norm... from Gaga to Christina.

Forever With You or GTFO (84,459) by DK from USA
Mariah is a very smart, hard-working woman and one of the most resilient people I have observed in the public eye. At the moment she seems to be in a good place with a proper team behind her. The subject title of this message is not accidental. It's actually meant to filter the fandom and set the tone for re-establishing her territory in the ADD nation climate, where no one can sustain public attention for more than 1 minute, except for MC at Christmas time. Mariah has already broken records and I'm sure she wouldn't mind doing so in the future but the primary joy comes in doing what she loves, songwriting and singing. She has already offered great material in the past, including the more recent official efforts #Beautiful, Art of Letting Go, You Don't Know What to Do, etc, which did not do well commercially (based on her own standards) but were great pieces.

What I am most surprised with Mariah is that she doesn't seem comfortable with touching social issues through her music. Considering the times we live in, I think this would have been a perfect opportunity to sing about love, unity in a divided would ala We Are The World, Earth Song (idea wise not sonically). A song with simple MC vocals and perhaps a group of children or mix choir (non-churchish) to support her message and a video of her walking normally in the streets holding hands with other normal people in the streets joining her chanting. Perhaps she is not on that mental plane now. I'm sure she is a busy mommy and business woman and in her mind she has plenty of time to push out future material. RocNation seems to be reintroducing her slowly into the mass audiences. The profanity is beyond subtle and playful that I doubt anyone outside of this room is noticing and it still makes her look like Mary Poppins in comparison with today's acts and lyrics.

The two singles to date are kinda cute understated songs if she could also present herself that way even better (part of the reason why she lured in so many fans in the past, especially early career was her simplicity). I can not imagine presenting at work (9 to 5 job) and have people microanalyze my presentation, content, tone, physical appearance, and so on. It would be ludicrous. Let that marinate for a second. I am pleasantly surprised she is still interested in making music.

Much love and success to MC and the lambily.

MC introspective (79,438) by DK from USA
Not sure why I felt the urge to express a certain level of sadness but more importantly love for MC recently. I truly love and appreciate her as an artist and intuitively as a human being even as an imperfect angel. I feel she is quite misunderstood in the U.S. market especially and def has certain forces against her constantly. It must be exhausting to be in her shoes. Her team changes recently is great development and yes she does appear calm and articulate in recent interviews, but also I sense sadness in her. She does not seem fully present in promoting her new creations (songs, movie, etc). I hope all is well and wish her continued good health and harmony. She will def be an even more celebrated artist after "continuation day". To all the lambily this upcoming holiday season and Carey on and on and on.

MC brings down The House (76,572) by DK from USA
I am not sure of the details revolving around The House movie project (I had no idea about this movie until the MC-shaming articles), but I find it equally unprofessional, and quite PR opportunistic, for the actors to speak about Mariah publicly, especially since she is not going to be part of the movie. (Even Seth Meyers was shady about her Christmas-time visit on his show, but why would a young TV personality whine about MC coming up with a different creative way of interviewing on a reindeer carrier? Anything outside the corporate boring structure is considered diva-ish difficult nowadays?) Overall it seems like there was a creative difference between how the producers wanted her part to go vs. how Mariah wanted her "real" character to project to the public. I would be equally demanding if I was playing "myself" in a film no matter the genre. As to why they did not sort things out prior to shooting seems rather inefficient and perhaps unprofessional - it's [censored] Hollywood people, not the most spiritual place to start with.

What a happy day to celebrate MC. And the fact that Stella hasn't posted anything on social. Perhaps it's a sign. Wishes do come true.

I can not imagine, as MC's videos have never been all that creative or artistic. The only elaborate story line I can recall was from "Through the Rain".

Can't Take That Away (72,427) by DK from USA
Randomly stumbled upon "Cant' Take That Away" remix live performance in Sidney. I love it. Somehow this video ties in well with The Massachusetts Daily Collegian article "Mariah's World review: Everyone loves you as an idea, yet no one loves you as a person. As amazing as Mariah may be, that unimaginable loneliness is something that I do not envy." I am not sure what Mariah can do to truly absorb this statement. Things are much clearer from a "bird's eye" view perspective, but I am not walking in her shoes. I think she is too scattered in meaningless time-filler projects. For an artist of her caliber, her professional projects seem to always lack proper execution. The I Don't video is a prime example of clusterfunkness. For someone who has yet to express her artistic self in film-making, the video is so primitive, awkward-looking and it adds zero artistic value to her repertoire. She said she will take a break for a while, but rushes right back in the mix to launch a new song/video that was put together in 3 days, come on. While I believe she does a great job at hiding/forgetting her depth, Mariah needs to truly let that be the forefront of her existence moving forward. I think she has developed a negative relationship (residual resentment/bitterness) with the US media, and it reminds me of Trump's "alternative reality". If Mariah finds music to be escapism, give the people a meaningful "There's Gotta to Be a Way" hymn of hope, it couldn't be more appropriate for the times we currently live in.

Re: Confirmed: "Molly" is an actress (70,923) (70,934) by DK from USA
Mimi - I agree with your frustrations but I am also a bit conflicted. I recall Mariah in the first half of her career distancing herself from endorsements (there are a few interviews where she directly said she would rather focus on music). But times have changed and she certainly has bills to pay and probably finally gave in. The fact is that, yes we as fans love her music, but the general public did not react greatly to her last two albums Memoirs (the label funked up the singles - Angels Cry should have been a first single in my opinion) and Chanteuse (she broke her shoulder/divorce etc). And let's not talk about #1 to Infinity. For an artist of her caliber, I think these projects were handled quite poorly in terms of their release (this is a label and Mariah handling). Memoirs should've been released as a remix album (Jump Smokers) from the very beginning but someone changed their mind midway (this was the time when Lady Gaga "brought back" dance music). Shoulda, woulda, coulda. And in the midst of it all we have dem babies. So for MC the hunger for music may not be there as much as we want her to be hungry. Is Stella, the producer, leading her to what Stella knows best... productions? Is Stella in it to benefit her own agenda as well? Of course, but who isn't? Don't we all go to work to make money and advance our careers? I think MC is very well aware of who Stella is. But this is where she is in her life and these are the options she is dealt with, hence her choices. I wish MW would have been a great introspective of her music and creativity mixed with dem babies moments (she has never been public about her relationships which is why the James/Tanaka thingie comfuses the crap out of me), but overall she seems to be very guarded when it comes to her personal processes (I don't recall seeing Mimi shedding the kinda of tears we saw with Beyonce in her documentary following her on tour) which is why she is totally fine with letting other characters in the show take the spotlight for the sake of her contractual obligations.

Like Godmother like daughter (70,646) by DK from USA
I have no idea why this is so funny - the way Patti reacted to this mess. Long P.S. NYE made me sweat in uncomfortable sad energy. After a +2 decades' career, I had never seen something like this with any artist. Not just the malfunction but also the magnitude of the audience size and exposure. The last mass embarrassing moment that I remember of her was the 2013 ABC summer concert series performance of #Beautiful, when she butchered the whistle notes but they were edited at least for the West Coast audience. I am surprised how generous the main stream media (CNN, New York Times) have been to her re NYE fiasco. Like many others wrote on this board, MC needs soul searching. She seems to be constantly caught in uncomfortable situations, that somehow dont happen to other artists (other than Ashley Simpson). It is all a reflection of her fragile brand with her being the CEO and rest of corporation/team. She made a name for herself through her earth shattering vocals, but as a beloved classic artist she still has enough voice left in her to sing without the earth-shattering notes and make meaningful music that is delivered in a simple "real" way. Make an intentionally imperfect album (even when "Art of Letting Go" was released via FB, she was upset that her own team released the wrong version of the song without the dubbing of the long chorus note, which to the masses would have been unnoticeable, com' on). She seems excited about the next musical project (2017), let's see what unfolds. Wish you well.

Tis the season to be jolly (69,058) by DK from USA
It looks like a lot of people here are ready to "be ashamed" of being Mariah fans and somehow find her recent behaviors scandalous. In your private lives you never have a fun smooch with a friend just for the silliness of it all? Or have a glass of wine? Yes these moments are being captured by the cameras but I don't think the general public analyzes every single move official or not of Mariah the same way that the "lambs" and/or "goats" do. Wait a minute Mariah looks fat? And she is not properly displaying her assets? None of this is new. Mariah is a person but also a brand and the show must go on. I never believe the numbers, well she has millions and should just retire gracefully. Retire before you are 50 while you have been on an ADHD whirlwind since you were 18? It's just not possible and only she can make that call. Mariah is ultra talented and she will always be judged about every single move, especially regarding her talent that even during her peak days has never been acknowledged properly but she did them all one better by continuing to create more music. For those who say she doesn't care care about the music, it's the people who don't (#Beautiful; Me... I Am Mariah were great) - it's simply a sign of the times. People don't buy records the same way and especially grow bored super quickly of acts, especially ones that have been in the business for a super long time like Mariah. So Mariah is playing the game for once - let's hope it's outcomes are positive. 2017. What I like about her recent acts is that she is putting more of a show with some production value behind it. The dancers are putting more of an effort - the VH1 AIWFCIY performance was definitely fresh. Good things are happening for MC and I hope her E show is successful enough to help her launch her next music project. Happy holidays.

Re: Empire and new music (67,066) (67,068) by DK from USA
Well maybe the data is deceiving, it was the top show for that hour across major stations, but when compared to Empire's own data from the previous week, the numbers were lower (9.25 million vs. 9.6 million the previous week). Anyhow, agreed it was a great little PR gig for her. From a creative standpoint, "Kitty" was everything "Mariah Carey" - I couldn't tell that she was in character, so not sure it was a challenging creative outlet for her.

Empire and new music (67,059) by DK from USA
Unfortunately, Mariah's starpower did not translate well in the show ratings, which were lower than the week before. According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Wednesday's "Empire" drew a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating and 9.24 million total viewers. The numbers trail the 3.7 rating and 9.65 million viewer mark garnered by last week's episode.
Regarding new music, MC hinted (in this interview, min 7:25) that she may "possibly debut" a new song which could be ready by the time her Latin American leg of the tour reaches Brazil. There seems to be zero chemistry between her and the interviewer who seems rather clueless, otherwise MC is on point throughout the questions.

(63,921) by DK from USA
This message board is becoming quite reactive to the fraction of every second of MC's life. Let's keep things in context of relativity. If you go to a club as a non-celeb, don't you go to have a good time, have a drink, flirt, dance, etc? Well, let MC have that same moment and yes she is a public figure but the general public is not spending timeless hours by digesting her every move the way certain hardcore fans do in here. Don't contribute to negative hypes by D-list media outlets and get out of here a bit more often. Go to the beach for a swim and come back with a new summery easy-breezy perspective. MC (a self-proclaimed imperfect angel) does not seem as invested in the legendary status as others. Perhaps she considers it a bit immature (professionally) as there is a lot of music left in her, therefore it's a bit early for legendary behaviors assigned to senior citizen artists.

Serious artist (62,417) by DK from USA
I have watched a couple of MC's recent appearances (E. red carpet interview, Andy's WWL, etc) to notice that she is always concerned with the camera angles, combing her hair, etc. It's extremely difficult to take her seriously as an artist when the primary concern is "the look". For someone who has been in the business for such a long time, I would think she would be over such silly insecurities. I also wished she had people around her to block idiotic questions like Andy Cohen's (i.e. What do you think about JLo, Nicki, Madonna, like who gives a funk, since when did MC become Kathy Griffin on celeb comedic/shady commentaries?). I love MC's artistry, she is one of a kind, but the depth/personality is fading away. I hope she finds the time/space in her "roller-coaster" life to reconnect with her inner-self more. I hope her next musical project will reflect a reinvented artist. She is also at a global caliber where she can pull off a big original "united world/peace" song, a better/more catchy version of "There's Gotta Be A Way". I always imagined a video for "Heavenly/No Way Tired" with Mariah walking out on the streets joined by random strangers who are going through tough times, sorta an anthem for the masses. That would certainly mold her image for the better.

Epic performance (61,640) by DK from USA
On April 20th MC Facebook page posted "PSA: Single night tickets are now available for ?#?ESSENCEFest? and I will be giving an EPIC performance on Saturday night. Trust me, you don't want to miss it." I wonder if this was a hyped ad or a hint that she will perform a new single. MC and/or her camp don't use the word "epic" often... well certainly not prior to her joining Epic Records.

Superbowl super Mariah (59,711) by DK from USA
I think MC can totally pull a great Superbowl show. (For those who think she is not capable of dancing/moving around, did you see Katy Perry's show last year? Kitty can't dance to save her life, the production was A+ though.) Stella Marina, here are some tracks to pick from:
- I came to have a party (it's like that) to Migrate (T-Pain) transition.
- Incorporate Fantasy Def Club mix with ODB mix.
- Heartbreaker Remix feat. Jay Z bring them all Da Brat.
- Touch My Body (DJ Zax remix) feat. Fatman Snoop. (This song is so hot in a club loud setting, crowd went wild last time I heard it played.)
- We Belong Together (Reconstruction version).
- Angels Cry (feat Ne-Yo & Pitbull) Jump Smokers remix version. (Maybe have Pitbull do a number before as a transition to MC song.)
- When You Believe hologram performance with Whitney Houston (maybe with children choir on background).
MC has an amazing catalog and strong stage presence. (Remember NFL M. Jordon tribute show with sporty sexy outfits?) Smart choices mixed with a high quality production. I say bring it.

Appreciative of MC (58,211) by DK from USA
One thing is constant - I truly appreciate Mariah as an artist and as a person overall (as I have observed her persona over the years). Mariah's musicality and vocal delivery, especially the recorded version, are impeccable by any industry standards. MC is extremely versatile with regards to genres. I like that she is original in her works and has great integrity. If you pay careful attention to her relationships with family, friends and colleagues, you will notice commonality in her sense of loyalty, respect and genuine love. While the music industry can be scrupulous, Mariah's longevity is a testament to her talent, willpower, work ethic and business intuition. Are there superficial moments, and times when she slips? Of course, but so do all of us in our personal and professional life. When you follow MC's endeavors, it's natural to comment (constructively) with the end goal being: you want her to do well and to succeed as she has done for some many years. At the same time, MC is who she is, and only she can deliver the authentic creative output we've come to love. There is a fine balance to expanding personal boundaries in compatibility with public noise and expectations. Self awareness is key. I wish Mariah continued success in all fronts. P.S. I am currently enjoying "One Child".

Stiff (58,038) by DK from USA
Mariah appears to be quite stiff in recent appearances. Whatever the reasons behind it, as an entertainer there is a certain doze of "festivity" that you ought to project, or otherwise don't make an appearance at all. MC dislikes any "age" references but her low energy level on the screen does not help her to this end. Recently she also made a reference regarding "how rushed" the whole "A Christmas Melody" movie production felt, which is almost an indication that she too may not be super thrilled with the final product. One thing is puzzling, for a woman who is in a position to have more control in her projects, why are things always slipping away and "rushed"? I would rather her hide away for 4-5 years like Adele and come back with a solid product than put all sorta random things out there. Mimi used to be against endorsing products, etc, but not on the 25th year mark of her career she is definitely been convinced otherwise - dem babies and those diamonds come at a cost I guess.
