About Eternal from Italy: I've learned incredible new chords playing Mariah's songs on my piano, her songs are real works of art.

Prediction (53,636) by Eternal from Italy
Someone will start lamenting these lists lambs love to do. It can get tedious when the lists are too long and repetitive but when it's just 3 of her 18 #1s it can be fun. It's interesting to know how a certain song can mean something special to someone, and since most of us have grown up with MC's songs, it's like a trip down memory lane. Mine goes:
1. I Don't Wanna Cry - I don't think Mariah appreciates the beauty of this song and its mature lyrics. How could she have written this at age 20? I've been learning to play this on piano and those chord progressions just get me each time.
2. Love Takes Time - Her live performances of this song and its whistle climax are everything.
3. My All - Does this even need a reason why?

Love Takes Time / I Don't Wanna Cry (53,178) by Eternal from Italy
Can we just take a minute to recognize how great Mariah did on the performances of these two songs and how remarkably well they've aged? 25 years and still slaying. Two ballads written without Walter Afanasieff and two of her greatest. It feels absolutely awesome to hear her sing these two old songs after so much time. They suit her current voice really well, let's hope as the tour continues she will sing the entire songs.

LA Reid co-produced this mess? (52,323) by Eternal from Italy
Infinity sounds like a remix of You're Mine (Eternal) with Up Out My Face. A rehash of a creatively lacking song, in other words. I get that they are trying to make it radio friendly while maintaining her trademark vocals, but the lyrics are really as corny as Fritos and that long whistle note near the end was completely superfluous. It's out of touch with today's music and would have been a flop even if it was recorded and released in 1995 with perfect vocals. I'm sorry, but that's my honest opinion. I was so excited when I saw that LA Reid, the man who masterminded her 2005 success, was a co-producer of the song, but he added absolutely nothing to the song. I'm disappointed, truly I am. Every one of the four new tracks on the original #1's was better than this. Didn't Sony tell her that You're Mine (Eternal) flopped hard and she shouldn't try to replicate it in any way? When will she realize that R&B is over and even her pal Mary J has jumped on the British house music bandwagon?

Tomorrow (52,237) by Eternal from Italy
Can't. Wait. For. Infinity. Today's music needs salvation, and Mariah's here to provide it.

Vocal consistency (50,205) by Eternal from Italy
I think this video might alleviate the fears of some lambs that Mariah has gone kooky or lost her voice. The way she talked and the way she sung the song proved that on a good night she's still the Mariah Carey we knew and loved. Her little speech sounded very similar to how she spoke during the Daydream tour. In her earlier years she had her fair share of misses as well (some of the Music Box tour, for example), but it was still more ups than downs. The reverse is now true, and as a fan, it gives you jitters every time you see her on a stage, because we don't want her to be ridiculed by the press or the general public. I don't think she's really delusional though. The press is making her out to be a total nutcase, past her prime and heading for a breakdown, but if you've watched Nightcrawler recently you'll see how much verity there is in many news reports that depend on such 'sensational' stories to get viewership/readership. They don't want to report the objective truth. Truth is when you show both her horrible mic feed at Rockefeller but also the amazing performance of Hero at the final Beacon show, and reach a conclusion that she has lots of vocal inconsistencies.

New era post-Nick (49,192) by Eternal from Italy
The Mariah we saw on the Ellen show is finally the Mariah we've known forever - the witty and humble girl-next-door with the big voice. Applause for the sexy yet decent outfit that showed off her curves while maintaining her class, and her love for her lambs by giving away free tickets to the Vegas shows. What to say? Post-Nick, Mariah is so much better. I think all that drinking and blabbering of the past might have been due to her marriage troubles, but I'm glad she's moving on and trying to keep herself busy yet still taking time off for the kids. It would be great if she releases #1s 25 (to commemorate her 25th career anniversary), with all her 18 number ones, bonus re-sung acoustic versions or demos of some of them and a few new songs. If she keeps singing like she did during the Beacon shows and maintain her current image, 2015 would be Mariah's year again, part 3. Who's Nick Cannon again?

Re: Billy / GMA '90 (46,932) by Eternal from Italy
This GMA video in good quality made me fall in love with Mariah's voice all over again. She was so soft-spoken and humble in that interview. When asked about comparisons to Whitney, you could see from her expression that she was a bit miffed but she managed to sound professional by saying she hoped to distinguish herself in the future with her singing and songwriting. And that performance with only a piano (loved the jazzy intro and her adlibs) and two male background vocalists was one of her best live renditions of VOL ever. The only other time she did a whistle in the beginning was in 2005, on the BET show. I think she can still pull off this stripped down piano and voice version if she lowers the pitch. I hope she does VOL this way the next time, it's more intimate as it cuts out the other instruments which might upstage her voice. Actually I think she should change the way she sings most of her old songs, the way she did with "Shake It Off". Keep the melody, lower the key, slow down the rhythm, add just a piano or guitar, and add in some improvised lyrics, whatever. That way she'll be lauded for her originality, yet still sing the song the way she can now.

New Mariahs / Ariana, Christina, Leona, who else (46,740) by Eternal from Italy
To quote DJ Clue, "new Mariah often imitated, never duplicated". I don't want to put Ariana down, because she's new and obviously the mini Mariah thing was mostly a marketing ploy by her company to get people talking. They did that with Christina Aguilera and Leona Lewis too. They are all endlessly talented when compared to their peers. I don't know how many of you watched the video of her performing on the Today Show a week ago. Her fans in the studio were about 10 years old each. She's 21, like Mariah was in 1991. Watch any live performance by Mariah at age 21 and compare it to Ariana now, and I think these comparisons can be put to rest. Mariah sang songs for adults, Ariana sings songs for pre-teens. Mariah could hit high notes while retaining a thick, soulful voice. She didn't have to screech to hit a G5. The maturity of her songwriting was really beyond her years. She wrote Vanishing as a teen. Somehow I can't even begin to imagine Ariana writing a song like that in her 40s.

Never Forget You (radio edit and extended mix by JD) (46,690) by Eternal from Italy
I wonder if I'm the last person on earth to know this, but I'll say it anyway. I've always thought that the radio edit and extended mix of Never Forget You were just variations of the version on the album, but boy, was I wrong. They are actually remixes by JD, with a quiet storm R&B beat rather than the schmaltzy original. That's not saying I don't appreciate the original version, but after I heard JD's remix, I'm totally blown away. The song sounds more genuine and intimate somehow. I think if Mariah could have had more control over her career back then, she would have chosen the JD remix as the album version, just like she would have chosen the ODB remix of Fantasy as the standard album version rather than a remix. Anyway, just to let you guys know in case you were still out of the loop like me.

Lullaby / The Roof (46,474) by Eternal from Italy
Thanks this_is_qhm for reminding me of Lullaby. I played it right after Underneath The Stars, Fourth Of July, Melt Away and The Roof and it really tells a complete love story. She even uses direct reference words like "cause I still melt away", "kissed under the sky", and "of that night on the roof" in Lullaby. I love it when she does a tribute-sequel of her own songs, like Dedicated on MIAMTEC, and includes lyrics from those songs ("the remix of a fantasy, I hear 'em singing back to me").
The thing that I have always loved about Mariah, besides her voice obviously, is her songwriting. She really has a song for every emotion, every moment of life and her lyrics are almost never banal. Who else would sing words like "suffered from alienation, carried the weight on my own" on her debut single?

Publicity for album and/or for LA villa? (44,450) by Eternal from Italy
It came to me yesterday a possible reason why Mariah held the mini concert at her home instead of doing a BET Blueprint special for example (like in '05). She's been wanting to sell that LA house for a few months now, but it's still up for grabs. So she probably thought of "killing two birds with one stone" by using the NBC special to promote both her new album and the LA villa. Smart move of her if that's the case. Not to mention she can control every single aspect of the performance, right down to the audience. I think WBT was mostly live (but unnecessarily dubbed, still beautiful), Money was one of her least convincing lip syncs (every time she slouches atop something in that manner ) and Heavenly almost induced me into believing it was live. But come on, not even in her best vocal moments did she sound 100% like the record. She might have sounded better, sang higher, ad libbed, sounded worse, sang lower, but never identical. I love the new album, but she's really not trying. I might be considered negative, but facts are facts.

Anthony (44,262) by Eternal from Italy
I've enjoyed reading your replies to Randy and Marcel. I think you're really articulate and you managed to put your point across without sounding offensive or defensive to anyone. Unfortunately to people who have already made up their minds that MC's voice is shot or the album is a flop, there's no way to convince them otherwise. People who loathe something are normally more vocal about it than people who like something. At the end of the day, Mariah Carey is a product for her audience (fans, lambs or just casual listeners). That's why she is right in putting her family as her priority - they are the only people who treat her as a human being, flaws and all. This line of yours to Marcel cracked me up though: "But I forget, you wouldn't have time to read those posts, as you're too busy having a life."

George Golden (43,952) by Eternal from Italy
You are asking people not to be negative, but looking at your old posts, you've been the one criticizing how she's desperately trying to appear black or ghetto. You had nothing positive to say about Mariah before the album streaming. We all unanimously agree that she should drop the rappers, but on this album Nas' presence was actually a good addition. I think we're all entitled to our own opinion about the new music and I, for one, did not like her cover of One More Try. Her vocals sound unnaturally high-pitched and choppy compared to the other songs and I think it was better if she didn't include it on the album. Everything else is top notch, though. I love the classic R&B and retro feel to most of the songs, and you can see she took her time to craft these songs to perfection. Cry, Camouflage, YDKWTD, Dedicated and Faded are my personal favourites, and I think even songs like You're Mine sound beautiful when listened in sequence.

Dedicated / YDKWTD (43,839) by Eternal from Italy
Just from YDKWTD and Dedicated, Me. I Am Mariah already seems like one of her best albums, right up there with Daydream and Butterfly. The style, vocals and vibe of Dedicated seems like something that would have come straight out of her "golden era". For once a rapper sounds like he blends in with the song and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like Wale did on YDKWTD. I'm so glad our Mariah has managed to win over even her hardest critics like Perez Hilton and TGJ with the past few songs. The Internet is all abuzz about YDKWTD and how it's the best song we've heard from her for ages (which is true). Wait until they hear the album in its entirety.

With songs like these... (43,695) by Eternal from Italy
After listening to Thirsty and now YDKWTD, I'm adamant that Mariah shouldn't release another official single before the album is out. Who knows what other gems might be on the album that we haven't heard yet? YDKWTD has that retro, 70s disco-inspired vibe that is so popular now. It reminds me of Jennifer Hudson's recent single I Can't Describe The Way I Feel actually. Very feel good and breezy. It would be perfect if she enlisted some house DJ producers like Duke Dumont, Tensnake or even Daft Punk to remix it into a deep house anthem. MC might just turn this whole era around with the quality of her new music. I have said before that's the only way she can salvage the mistakes of Triumphant and YME. Why the heck did she release a monotonous song like You're Mine when there were so many other great songs on the album? Her vocals for the Today Show were more or less how she has sounded in the past few years. Pitchy and rather nasal. Vocal-wise, I don't think we should put our hopes up for anything resembling Daydream or Emotions, I'm just happy if it's better than MOAIA.

Today Show (43,670) by Eternal from Italy
There's some speculation that a possible next single could be Faded, produced by Mike Will Made It. There's a sticker on some physical copies of the Target edition of the album highlighting Beautiful, YME, Thirsty and also Faded. Since Mariah's doing the Today Show in a few hours time, I really hope she sings a few songs off the new album instead of rehashing for the umpteenth time ABMB, WBT or MIH. My dream set list for her would be:
Thirsty
Beautiful (done without Miguel so it feels more like an MC song)
One More Try
Faded
Vision of Love
The last one to remind people that she's been around for the past 24 years, just in case someone forgets.

Thirsty for champagne (43,603) by Eternal from Italy
The sound of a bottle of champagne being opened and poured into a glass as the opening of Thirsty really aptly describes this whole Me. I Am Mariah era. It couldn't be more accurate. Isn't Mariah always thirsty for some champagne whenever she shows up for an interview these days? The song title is actually kinda funny. Like a self mockery in a way. I woke up this morning singing "uh I'm thirsty, uh I'm hungry". The video possibilities are endless with a song title like that. I hope that if she does release it as a single, she doesn't just sit around moaning "I'm thirsty" while touching herself in a million places lol.

Negativity (43,550) by Eternal from Italy
Mariah really can't get a break. She has two groups of lambs: the first group loves her pop and adult contemporary stuff, like #Beautiful, Hero, etc, and are likely to be the older fans. The second group likes her newer stuff post-Mottola, with the hip hop and R&B grooves, like Obsessed, Touch My Body. Adding to this she also has to appeal to the public and achieve mainstream success. She has to keep her old fan base yet try to reach new, younger listeners, which is tough competition in an industry that favors 20-somethings. Mariah herself prefers the hip hop stuff; she has more than once mentioned in interviews this year how she still wants to make that kind of hip hop records that make her happy. She has managed to somehow combine the best of both worlds to make a song that is equal parts hip-hop, R&B, and a club banger and people are now questioning why she's still doing hip hop. This is the genre she has always fought for since the early days, and eventually led to the end of her first marriage, why should she intentionally change the kind of music she makes just to blend in with current trends? It's her album, it's her songs. Just because one declares oneself a lamb doesn't give one a right to slam the song within hours of its release, claiming flop or whatever. It's 1 song off an album of 14 tracks. There's a song for every kind of listener. Say you're not feeling it, but stop picking at everything.

First impressions of Thirsty (43,516) by Eternal from Italy
Can't get it off my head, it's that heady blend of hip-hop and R&B only Mariah can pull off. Infectious repetitive chorus (uh you're thirsty, you're thirsty) and hypnotic pre-chorus (thirsty for a dream, leaving me drowning). As a lamb I love it, but I can also imagine the Miley Cyrus generation licking this up like candy. It's everything I had hoped for Thirsty to be and more. After so many false starts, let's hope for this banger to take off. MC's making us thirsty for that new album.

Mariah to open World Music Awards (43,490) by Eternal from Italy
I just read on MDJ that Mariah will open the World Music Awards and also receive an Icon Award on May 27, the same day as her new album release. Does that mean she will open the show with a performance? If that's the case, it would truly be good promotion if she could sing the hell out of a new song on the album. I think she should let people stream about 30 seconds of songs on the new album and do a poll on her Facebook page for the song people would most like to hear as a next single. Since her team and herself have proven that they aren't really able to make good single choices, they should let the public have their say instead. 15 more days to MIAM, I can't wait.

Edward / radio edits (43,282) by Eternal from Italy
Thanks for clarifying what I said, my previous message must not have been too clear. What I meant to say is that had Mariah tried to cover Careless Whisper by the same singer, then she would have had endless comparisons because that's George Michael's signature song, like Hero and AIWFCIY is Mariah's trademark. No matter how old the song is, as long as it's one that people are very familiar with, it's hard to make it your own as a cover. Of course that's an arguable point, but it's my opinion. I brought up Prince's The Beautiful Ones because it's one of his most underrated gems despite being on the Purple Rain album, and it's a rare case in which Mariah's cover was way longer than the original. Since when has Mariah done a song (not a remix) that's 7 minutes long? Mariah's version was a delicious sultry slow burner, and she definitely managed to give it a new sheen. Personally I adore songs that take time to build up the atmosphere, a complete song that takes us on a musical journey, like Bohemian Rhapsody, Purple Rain, Goodbye Stranger, etc. I'm hoping Mariah will bring back some such classics and salvage us from the 3 minute disposable pop that we hear on radio nowadays, give us songs that can stand the test of time.

One More Try / Heavenly / Meteorite (43,263) by Eternal from Italy
One More Try is confirmed to be a George Michael cover. Frankly I had never heard the song before, but now that I have I am mesmerized by how hauntingly beautiful it is. Watch the gospel version live by GM and you'll get what I mean. I'm very curious as to how Mariah might interpret it. It's a good song for a cover, because it's not too well-known and so the ears of a listener are "fresh". I think she can give her own unique spin on it like she did for The Beautiful Ones on the Butterfly album. It's going to be hard to surpass GM's original version, but a female voice on a male song is always different. Heavenly sounds like a gospel song, I wonder if it's the song that features the Love Unlimited Orchestra as Billboard mentioned. And apparently Meteorite is a disco-influenced song that is similar to the Fantasy and Honey vibe. These song titles are giving me life right now. What about you lambs? Which song are you excited about? We've been lamenting for the past few months about tracklists, but there hasn't been much discussion about it now that we've finally gotten our wish.

Almost Home (Alternate Version) (43,226) by Eternal from Italy
All the lambily need to listen to this alternate version of Almost Home, if you haven't heard already. The initial instrumental and bridge part is completely different, and I actually find it much more beautiful this way. There are also some additional vocal parts by Mariah. I already like the original version, but I prefer this alternate version.
