Not a peep. In an interview with the New York Times published on Tuesday, March 15, E!'s Jeff Olde - who oversees the production of Mariah Carey's new docuseries, Mariah's World - revealed that the singer won't utter a single word the day before a show.
"She cannot speak the day before a performance," Olde said. "She knows exactly what she wants but she has to communicate through writing or sign language, and it's a sort of a joke within her group, because she has to preserve her voice."
Carey is excited to share more fun Mariah-isms with her ever-loyal Lambily when her first foray into television premieres later this year. "I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am," the "Obsessed" songstress told the Times. "A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that."
As Us Weekly previously reported, the show will cover the behind-the-scenes drama of Carey's Las Vegas residency, Mariah #1 To Infinity, and starting in the spring, her two-month European Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour. While Mariah's World will also document the superstar planning her wedding to her billionaire fiancé, James Packer, don't expect to see her man make an appearance.
"He's a legit businessman," she said. "It's not really his thing to be, like, traipsing all over Europe and hanging out with all my crew and dancers and singers." Similarly, 4-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, who Carey shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon, won't be featured on the series.
"I don't want to do anything that's exploitative," she added. "They haven't been filmed at all yet. There might be a couple of moments, but it's not about making them the stars of the show. They're too young to make that decision."
