There's no doubt that she's one of the biggest and most iconic musicians ever, but that doesn't mean that everyone is a fan of Mariah Carey. In fact, over the course of her stellar career, Mariah has actually found herself quite a few enemies, from Jennifer Lopez to Demi Lovato and more than a few in between. And, following her slightly disastrous New Year's Ever performance, the haters have definitely have come out of the woodwork. Here, we're rounding up aallll the times Mimi was on the receiving end of a burn, because... well... because why not?
Jennifer Lopez
Ahhh, JLo vs Mimi. The great rivalry where we got pretty much the greatest meme of all time, the "I Don't Know Her". Basically: Mariah was being interviewed in the early 2000s about her pop star peers, where she gave her opinion on the stars of the moment. Beyoncé was "nice" and a "good writer", but JLo? Nope. She "didn't know her". Ouch.
Since then, JLo has clapped back more than once. Most recently when she liked this tweet about Mariah's NYE performance: "Ever seen an accident you couldn't take your eyes away from? That was her tonight!"
Demi Lovato
Demi also threw her fair share of shade when she commented on an Instagram post that compared Ariana Grande to Mariah Carey. "When you order it online vs. when it arrives," read the post's caption, hinting that Ariana was the cheaper version of Mariah. But Demi didn't really agree. She commented underneath, "You got it the wrong way around honey."
Mel B
Um wot? Former Spice Girl Mel B weighed in on Mariah's NYE gig, too, where she awkwardly said that "maybe she doesn't have that voice anymore". Yikes. "Maybe she doesn't have that voice anymore. I hate to say it. I think maybe she was having a rough day vocally and didn't even want to attempt that when it actually came to singing live because some of the track was pre-recorded, all of the high notes, and some of it was just blank for her to sing live," said Mel.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has never been afraid of spilling some tea and speaking her mind, so it didn't reaaally surprise us when she threw some Mimi shade. Miley spoke to Elle US about "seeing through her shtick". "I've never really been a fan, because it's so much about Mariah Carey," she said. "That's part of her shtick, I can see through that." But she didn't stop there. "That's part of what makes her a gay icon, like, it's about Mimi! It's about what she's wearing, and it's about her. What I make isn't about me. It's about sharing my story, it's about someone being connected to what I'm saying." Damn.
Nick Cannon
Okay maybe this shade isn't so much about Mariah as Mariah's choice in men. Mimi's ex-husband Nick Cannon posted some shots to his Instagram after Mariah was seen having a good ol' time with her toyboy Bryan Tanaka in Hawaii, that were a little strange. He went on to say that it was "all love" and "no hate" but we're not so sure.
