Mariah Carey is frequently the subject of phony tabloid stories. Gossip Cop has debunked countless false reports about the singer. Here are five wrong rumors.
Last week, Gossip Cop busted Star for falsely claiming that Carey was jealous of Lady Gaga's success with A Star Is Born. The magazine contended that Carey, who starred in the 2001 box office bomb Glitter, was pursuing a film career and believed she should be offered an Oscar-worthy role like Gaga. Not only did a rep for the singer dismiss the story as nonsense, but it's clear that the Carey is focused on her music career. The singer recently wrapped her All I Want For Christmas Is You European Tour. Next month, Carey is kicking off her Caution World Tour in support of of her latest album.
Last month, Gossip Cop called out the National Enquirer for wrongly reporting that Ryan Seacrest invited Carey to perform on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" 2019. The singer made headlines following a botched performance on ABC's annual New Year's show in 2017, but returned and redeemed herself the following year. According to the magazine, Seacrest was eager for her to make yet another appearance. A source close to the TV personality, however, told us the story was made-up. Around the same time, it was reported that Carey would celebrate New Year's with a performance in St. Barts. The singer told Us Weekly, "I am excited to ring in the new year at Nikki Beach with my family, loved ones and everyone who joins the festivities!"
Gossip Cop busted OK! in November 2018 for making up a story about Carey moving to Aspen. The singer frequent visits the popular ski destination, but the magazine claimed she planned to leave Los Angeles and make Aspen her new home. The report was based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable "source", but Carey's own rep told us on the record she had no plans to live full-time in the resort town. Carey ended up vacationing in Aspen over Christmas, as she has in past years, but she hasn't relocated to Colorado.
In March 2018, OK! falsely claimed that Carey had proposed to boyfriend Bryana Tanaka and the two were in the process of planning a wedding. The outlet said the ceremony would take place in May at a resort in Maui. As soon as the story emerged, a rep for Carey exclusively told Gossip Cop it was simply "not true". As time has shown, the singer and her boyfriend aren't engaged, let alone married.
And finally, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer in January 2018 for wrongly reporting that Carey would be launching her own tea line. The story was seemingly concocted because the singer asked for tea during her performance on "New Year's Rockin' Eve". The moment went viral, inspiring the magazine to come up with a premise about Carey turning it into a business venture. Carey's camp assured us last year she wasn't getting into the tea business. As time has shown, she never did.
