Mariah Carey admits she's facing tough competition

Mariah Carey may be the undisputed Queen of Christmas - but she could soon be usurped by her daughter Monroe, who is not only rehearsing more than her mother for their upcoming shows, but is also close to hitting her high notes too.

The Grammy-winner, 54, said she hopes her "really talented" 12-year-old will follow in her superstar footsteps, as she revealed the youngster has it "together a little more" than she does.

The Fantasy hitmaker opened up about motherhood during an interview with Good Morning America, and joked that she is "not a regular mom" but a "cool mom" - before adding that her twins would probably label her "corny" if she described them as her friends.

Mariah, who shares her children with ex-husband Nick Cannon, will be accompanied by Monroe on her upcoming Merry Christmas One and All! tour, which kicks off on November 15, marking nearly a year since their first duet in Toronto last December.

"I think my daughter is rehearsing more than me so I think she might have it together a little more than I do!" Mariah joked, before host Juju Chang asked: "Does your daughter have the octave whistle?"

"I think she kind of has it, I think she just has to play with it," Mariah replied, as she revealed that both Monroe and Moroccan are "really talented across the board" and hopes that in "some ways" they follow in her footsteps.

When Juju commented on the fact that Mariah is "enjoying being a mom and being with them", the Emotions singer said: "I don't wanna say they're my friends because then they're like, 'urgh my mom's corny'." She quickly insisted: "I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom!"

Asked about her "magical"' plans for the holiday season, she said: "Yeah, that's true, and I know nothing's perfect but here's me trying to reach out to you and give you the merriest of Christmases and enjoying being together."

She also teased that a new album is on the way, adding: "There is new music on the horizon. I have been working the past three, four weeks on just writing new songs and yesterday we were in the studio working on something, so it's exciting."
