Brother accuses Mariah of orchestrating YouTube video

Mariah Carey's brother is claiming that one of her "lamb" fans, who was under her "employment and control", created a deep-dive YouTube video to further "damage" his reputation, five years after the singer's abuse allegations in her 2020 memoir.

Morgan Carey, 65, initially sued the singer in 2021 for what he claimed were false and defamatory statements she made in her autobiography The Meaning of Mariah Carey, published in October 2020.

These statements in her memoir ranged from him being abusive towards their mother when their violent father left home to conspiring with their mother to have the iconic singer institutionalized to steal her money.

Now, the Hawaiian resident is asking the judge to accept his new amended lawsuit and for $40million in damages and profits from the book, after 14 of the 16 claims in his original suit were dismissed and his appeal was denied in 2023.

And there's new information that's come to light in this most recent filing, according to his proposed amended complaint obtained by DailyMail.com that was filed on March 21.

In February of this year, the document states, Morgan became aware of a YouTube video entitled "Morgan Carey: a deep dive into Mariah Carey's disturbing older brother", created by a Mariah fan named Lambily - a nod to what her "lamb" devotees are often called.

Morgan is claiming the video was a bid by the fan and Mariah to destroy his reputation, saying: "The individual identified as responsible for this video, one Lambily, is within the employment and control of Mariah, and the statements in it were made by her both personally through Lambily."

In one clip that uses Mariah's narration from her memoir's audiobook, the singer states Morgan and her mother Patricia were working "on the side of the record company" to have her institutionalized so that they could take control of her financial affairs.

The documentary also rehashes Mariah's claims from her memoir that he hit their mother Patricia, after their father Alfred left the home, so that "he felt like he'd become the man of the house".

And that "with their father's passing, Morgan and Alison (her sister) got a hefty payout from his insurance policy which likely kept them from scheming".

But Morgan's lawyers hit back in the new complaint: "Those statements are false and defamatory. Morgan never 'hit' Mariah. Morgan had no 'life of crime'. There was no 'hefty payout'. Morgan was never 'scheming'."

The physical abuse claims, that were highlighted in Mariah's memoir, were also examined in the new filing. The passage referring to the abuse in her memoir said: "It took twelve cops to pull my brother and father apart. The big bodies of men, all entangled like a swirling hurricane, crashed loudly into the living room."

"I was a little girl with very few memories of a big brother who protected me. More often, I felt I had to protect myself from him, and sometimes I would find myself protecting my mother from him too." She added in another passage: "Suddenly there was a loud, sharp noise, like an actual gunshot."

But Morgan's legal team wrote that the passages discussing the altercation with his father was "false" and portrayed him as "a physically violent man". In actuality, they argue, Morgan was a "handicapped thirteen-year-old child" born with "cerebral palsy, grand mal and petit mal epilepsy, and a left leg which was several inches shorter than his right".

Instead, his lawyers argued that this fabrication was an attempt to "vilify Morgan" and "curry favor with the Black Lives Matter movement" through her relating this instance to police relations with the Black community since this book was published during the height of the movement.

The filing also said that Morgan has no history of violence or has ever been convicted of a crime. Mariah also claimed in her memoir that her mother had told her Morgan was dealing drugs.

The amended lawsuit references a paragraph from Mariah's book alleging that Morgan "discreetly supplied the beautiful people with their powdered party favors" when he worked in a nightclub in the late 1980s, with his attorneys stating this is "reasonably understood as a reference to cocaine".

Morgan denied the violent incidents ever happened or that he sold drugs. Morgan's lawyers said the memoir has resulted in significant damages in his professional life, citing negotiations with Italian producer Francesco Pamphili for a "film project" in development being "abruptly broken off" when the news broke about the contents of Mariah's book.

"Pamphili had instructed Mauro Leone to draft a deal memo. But after he became apprised of the existence of the book and the false accusations contained therein, and particularly Morgan's alleged drug dealing and criminal record, Pamphili rescinded his offer," the filing said.

Since then, Morgan claims he's been unable to get any full-time employment. Now, he's seeking a minimum payout in his lawsuit against his estranged sister of $20million in compensatory damages for the "mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and loss of business".

At least $10million for all profits from her book" - and punitive damages of "not less than $10million". Mariah was due to have a videotaped deposition on the claims made in her book to Morgan's lawyers on January 17 - but that appears to not have taken place.

A compliance conference order, obtained by DailyMail.com and filed on February 20, revealed that the judge has set a deadline for all depositions by May 16 and requires discovery to be completed by June 30.

In December, it was revealed that Oprah Winfrey may have to provide evidence after Morgan demanded that the Oprah Winfrey Network hand over all communications relating to Mariah.

Mariah was interviewed nine times by the television host before her book came out and referenced her relationship with her brother multiple times during her sit-down interview.

The amended filing stated: "Indeed, the damage was intended. Defendant Mariah, in a pre-publication press campaign, said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that she intended to damage Morgan, stating 'they drew first blood', referring to both of her siblings. She has also publicly referred to Morgan as her 'ex-brother', and so describes him in the book."

Mariah Carey and her team have not responded to DailyMail.com's request for comment.

Morgan is doing too much. I saw that video. It basically just says all the same things the book says. He's trying to say Mariah is behind these somewhat amateurish YouTube vids now? Sure Jan.
