"There's got to be a way" is, lyrically, a piece of social concern
about some of the ills in our society: homelesness, apartheid, bigotry
(a subject close to Mariah's heart), and famine. Restrained in the
verses, the chorus has a "churchy" feel, mostly due to the backing
vocals, which begin to take off before the middle instrumental break
and then soar at the key change close to the song's end as Mariah
begins to demonstrate fully the extend of her range, fitting through
upper register like a bird.
"There's got to be a way" was only released as a single in Europe,
in stead of "I don't wanna cry". Unfortunately, this single flopped. It only
reached number 54 in the UK.
