Mariah Carey won't attend her high school reunion

Harborfields High School's class of 1987 probably should not hold out hope that its most famous alum, Mariah Carey, might come back for another homecoming. The 45-year-old singer emphatically denied that she would attend any such event when asked about reunions by a reporter from TMZ.

"Why would I go to anything I didn't create myself?" she asked in response to being pressed on the issue. In order to further prove her point, Mariah twice referenced a special she filmed in 1999 at her former high school in Greenlawn, New York. "I made my own high school reunion. It's called Homecoming - you can look it up on YouTube," she said. "Jay-Z was there. It was the best!"

That TV special saw Mariah giving a concert in Harborfields' gym, attended by some rather excited students. She also wandered around the halls - pointing out important places like the nurse's office and the detention room - and chatted with her former principal. Technically, the only true reunion was with a man named Chuck who apparently worked at the high school and who had been friends with Mariah years earlier.

Mariah then did an interview with the high school paper, signed one lucky kid's cast, and headed over to the nearby junior high's auditorium to meet students there. Boy band 98 Degrees spent time on the football field with Mariah as well, although there was no clear reason why they would be there.

Life has remained busy for Mariah, who had her first number-one hits just three years after graduating from high school. On Tuesday, she was even honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, supported at the event by her four-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan. Along with boyfriend James Packer, Mariah and the kids have been spending some family time in Malibu, where they are renting a beach house.
