Mariah sings Hero
Mariah Carey was joined by eleven X Factor acts in tonight's results show singing a wonderfully emotional version of Hero. Mariah, who originally wrote and recorded Hero back in 1993, put her official seal of approval on the finalists' version by standing on stage, sporting in a shimmery gold satin frock, and leading a chorus of the chart-topping song.
The American songbird sang three full verses of the track alone, simply and full of emotion. Then one by one the X Factor finalists joined her on stage, all wearing white, adding the special X Factor touch. The X Factor finalists' version of the track is currently number one in the British Singles Chart.
The X Factor finalists were delighted to sing alongside a musical legend, and Simon Cowell added his thanks for her performance. He said, "Mariah doesn't get enough credit for her songwriting. She wrote that song Hero, as well as many of the others performed tonight. I am very happy that you agreed to be on the show tonight. Thank you."
Mariah's appearance with The X Factor finalists was a show of solidarity for the charities the single Hero supports. Mariah had earlier said, "Hero - here it is as number one over here again - and for such a good cause." Speaking to The X Factor finalists, she said, "Thank you you guys for doing that."
Proceeds from the track go nominated charities Help for Heroes and the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Sunday November 9 is this year's Remembrance Sunday, and everyone involved in the single is crossing their fingers the track will remain at number one to mark the day. There are no plans for the "supergroup" version of Hero to be released commercially. However you can buy and download the fab X Factor finalists' version. Don't forget that for the first time since Band Aid, the government will donate all VAT single back in a gesture of support for this brilliant cause. (ITV)
