About jaker20 from US: You Will Never Be MC

Re: 40 million on YouTube views for Caution (88,658) (88,664) by jaker20 from US
If she gets one streaming hit, the rest will gain more visibility. It's a domino effect. She needs one good video or streaming hit and she won't get that with mediocre videos. I have a feeling Spotify and streaming platforms is also payola-driven, we never really know the metrics that drive those playlist, but Mariah at this point in her career should be above that.

Sales/streams vs quality (88,662) by jaker20 from US
Mariah will never sell like she used to, and sales are down across the board anyway. Lambs used to complain that Mariah is all about charts, and now that she's giving us a good album they're still complaining. Not everyone needs a Cher-type comeback. As long as she's serving quality, I am happy. She is an artist after all. With her peaks behind her, she can focus on being the true artist she wants to be and solidify her status. Paul McCartney is still releasing albums regularly and they are acclaimed because he doesn't care about charts, and they all continue to to his legacy and that's what I want Mariah to chase in this next chapter of her career. I do hope Mariah gets a surprise hit somehow, I know they're around the corner one of these days. But that shouldn't be her focus anymore. I love the album and she got some of the best reviews of her career, and that's why I'm not too upset by it under-performing.

Re: Why is Merry Christmas not certified diamond yet? (88,641) (88,645) by jaker20 from US
It's not accurate and so is a lot of early pre-2000s artists. A lot of Mariah's records are under-certified and so is Janet Jackson and most likely Madonna too. The labels probably don't care and they only will if the artist is being honored or have something to cross-promote with them. I would not trust Wikipedia either. I mean, did you see their best-selling artists ever? They are combining singles with albums to singles ales. So an album with a dozen tracks counts as one. What a joke.

Re: A No No (88,622) (88,629) by jaker20 from US
Remixes are only good if it actually improves the song, or if the song is charting and the artist want to push it further. It's useful in the downloads and physical sales era. But in the streaming era, it only dilute awareness on a certain version. A No No is already a good song, so the remix is only good if it has big current name attached to it to boost its profile. The song is not charting or being picked up radio, so a mediocre remix will just bury the song further. I was imagining Mimi dueting with a male artist on the remix, or layering a male vocals as if answering Mimi and they're going back and forth. Just simply attaching say Louis the Child or any new artists out there will improve its streaming. There's so many ideas she can take it to but Mimi is surrounded by business people who want to make money off her, not new young artists that can provide her ideas and inspire her creativity again. So many people around her and none have good ideas. I realize now that chasing Cardi B will just make Mimi look desperate. She can collab with bubbling new artists and that will help both their careers.

I personally don't mind if it's Stefflon, she's very talented.

Re: A No No getting no airplay (88,548) (88,558) by jaker20 from US
Nonstop promotion will not necessarily change the results. She will just exhaust herself. It's not the quantity but quality. She has an image problem, the diva the legend, that essentially means old and has-been. New music landscape is about being relatable. That is why the remix was important. She gets acceptance again, then release a good song. That's what she did after Glitter with Busta Rhymes. She needs to be accepted first, now however good the song is she's getting rejected.

Remix (88,421) by jaker20 from US
I still think there will be a surprise remix, maybe not the one we want, but something with someone somewhere. And then the video will make a bit more sense. I'm just glad its not tragic like I Don't vid. Come to think of it, this is one of her better videos in a long time.

Re: A No No video review (88,405) (88,420) by jaker20 from US
I was thinking of a video where there's a fashion show and some of the looks are so bad, and then it shows all her reactions while everyone is loving the show and kissing the designer's behind. Just like the train setting, it's a concept that required only a single setting if they are being cheap on the video. But it's at least a concept. Though I like the current video, but mostly because I love the song, she looks amazing as ever and I love the added high notes.

Re: Eternally optimistic (88,409) (88,418) by jaker20 from US
Randy, I didn't say she is none of those. I am saying her videos have always been like that, not serious and always just about her being sexy and or partying. Her videos are never deep. Ever. So why are we expecting any change now? She did write deep serious stuff. But this conversation is about the video, not the song. As I have stated, I love the song, and all I hoped was for it to be released, hit or not. People need to discover the album.

Re: Eternally optimistic (88,406) (88,407) by jaker20 from US
Mariah has always been like that. She's never really taken things seriously, or she's not able to. She's just not an artist who tackle major social issues and not everyone has to. And personality first that profile, which is why her videos are like that. It's been like that since she started. Emotions (partying in the house), Dreamlover (partying in the countryside) and Fantasy (partying in the carnival). Like many, I had thought TEOM was a turning point. That album had concepts, the videos had concept, so in effect, even the way she carried herself in interviews and in real life looked more respectable. Then she defaulted back again herself in E=MC2 era all bimbo and having fun, and it's been like that since. I believe she is really like that in person. It's not a Stella thing. She's always been that way, insecure, conceited and too much into herself. So that's literally 25 years of her career, and just 2 years of maturity. You can't expect her to change now. You take it or leave it. Otherwise, you will just be frustrated.

Yeah it's kinda basic and has no story. But it's a bop and she looks gorgeous.

Re: A No No feat. Stefflon Don (88,369) (88,375) by jaker20 from US
I actually like it. Stefflon adds an extra layer to the song and with a good video this might actually take off. Not expecting a number one but I'm just glad MC is working with new talents giving them some platform. She'll get plenty of support for that alone. Besides it's a hot song.

Re: A No No over (88,159) (88,170) by jaker20 from US
She can't go adult contemporary route, its vocally demanding. Caution is perfect route, clubby and remixes with occasionally good vocals and great beats, mix of mid-tempos and a few ballads here and there. The album is not the problem. The problem is she doesn't know how to promote it. She gives up easily. Videos aren't that expensive to make anymore. Lots of videos blow up because it has a good concept shot on cheap handheld cameras. She needs a good team that is in tune with the current market. Her album cannot go top to bottom adult contemporary or her voice will be completely gone in a few years that even midtempos won't be available to her anymore. She needs to think long term. I know she can still get a hit. The right formula just have to be there. Mariah is an artist not a business woman. No one can do both. Of course she has knowledge in promotion and the business part for sure, but that's not her forte. Ariana Grande isn't blowing up now because of her own effort. Her current single has a dozen writers on it for crying out loud. But that is important. Other artists want to participate in the process and you have to let them, whatever your legend status in the business is. Same with the business part of it.

Re: J.Lo's "management team" (88,018) (88,021) by jaker20 from US
I'm not denying that. JLo can never touch Mariah's overall achievements. Ignore me I'm just grumpy these past few weeks for the absolute lack of Caution promo.

Re: Jennifer Lopez's management / Grammys (88,010) (88,016) by jaker20 from US
There is no denying that Mariah is miles and miles more talented than JLo. All I'm saying is that being able to dabble into different things is in itself a skill. So not all of us are gifted with Mariah's voice. Do we just sit on a corner and not have ambitions? JLo has proven that you can with hard work and perseverance and that is what I like about her. She is still relevant. In fact, I would argue she is more relevant now than Mariah. Her last movie was a minor hit, made almost $70m worldwide on a $19m budget, she has a whole lot more top 100 songs this decade than Mariah, and had a TV dance show that she herself produced and is helping a lot of dancers have a platform. Mariah and Jennifer is a great way of how to appreciate talent vs hard work and which one wins in the end.

Re: Thank You, Next album (87,979) (88,005) by jaker20 from US
Why don't Mariah's team reach out to Ariana's team and do some kind of collab or special duet or whatever they can do together? Or how about Halsey or Ava Max? I had thought Cardi B collab will happen but frankly that possibility is starting to look bleak. Why is Mariah unable to reach out to these artists now the way legends extended to her when Mariah was at the top? What Mariah did to Aretha, Patty Labelle, Luther Vandross etc is open them to a new generation of listeners. Especially with her status in the industry, something is very wrong in this equation.

Re: Grammys 2020 (87,991) (88,004) by jaker20 from US
Caution deserves to be nominated next year, it is one of the best albums recently and it has received some of Mariah's best reviews. And if Mariah and her team put some effort in properly promoting it, properly being the key word here, then it can still find a lot of audience and gain new fans. Its a fantastic album, too bad it seems Mariah don't know how to promote it.

Re: Jennifer Lopez's management / Grammys (87,992) (88,003) by jaker20 from US
Jennifer Lopez has a lot of things going on, movies, tv series, and these high profile awards gigs because she puts effort into it. Mariah just releases, tours every now and then and that is it. These performances, they require planning, they practice with dancers, choreographers create a cool presentation, they even plan how they meet on stage with the other artists and Obama, chat and get along with them. There's a lot that goes with it that Mariah either don't know how to do or not interested in doing. Her act now is literally just showing up and get paid. She's a massive talent obviously but she doesn't seem to have people skills and that is why she's starting to become a legacy act. They always drag Jennifer but I admire her for putting an effort in everything she does. Plus she looks great, for whatever age now she takes care of herself. So what if she's not a good singer. She at least puts on a show. Mariah can't even do both, that is, sing well and put on a show. She sings well every now and then, but lets be honest, she's lipping or use backing tracks. But even worse, the production of Mariah's shows look cheap. JLo has a better chance of having a second or third act ala Cher or Madonna when they were in their 50s than Mariah. Mariah seem to have embraced her current situation and doesn't put much effort anymore. I'm just being honest.

Re: Caution the title track (87,997) (88,002) by jaker20 from US
The album is Mimi's best in a long time and one of her most acclaimed. But none of these songs has any potential whatsoever to be a hit unless she remix with a featured artist, and a good remix it should be. That is just the truth.

Re: A No No ft Cardi, Lil Kim and Elliott (87,964) (87,976) by jaker20 from US
This song won't go anywhere if we get an album version. Let's be real, radio don't play her anymore and she really isn't cool anymore with the young kids. The only way this song will get noticed is a collab. I can do without Elliott to be honest though. But yeah she needs to up her art to get this song out there, because it's a great great song. But honestly I am not sure Mariah knows how to promote the album.
