Rock & Roll Hall of Fame plus Tony (102,649)
by Edward from USA

She'll eventually be inducted, Randy, just be patient. As for an EGOT, well, she could definitely get an EGT. Even if her fairy godmother turned her into a great actress, I doubt she would ever get an Oscar. It's OK though, she doesn't need it.
I've always pictured 90's Mariah playing Sandy on a Grease remake.

So again MC doesn't make it? And every relevant pop diva has (Madonna, Janet and Whitney). I'm disgusted. But yass queens and delusionals will say she doesn't need it, she's broken records and she's a legend in her own right. The Tony award nomination is exciting. Imagine if MC was to eventually earn an EGOT. She should've been nominated for an Oscar for Right To Dream. Oh shut up y'all.

AI Mariah Carey songs (102,635)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I asked AI to write song as Mariah Carey would write it, and here's what it came up with.
Verse 1: I never thought that love could be so real, But then you walked into my life, and now I feel, A passion deep inside my soul, A flame that burns beyond control.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Verse 2: With every breath I take, I feel your love, It's like a melody, that's sung from up above, And every time I look into your eyes, I'm lost in a world, where love never dies.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Bridge: And in this world, that's so full of pain, You are the sunshine, that breaks through the rain, And I'll never let you go, my heart's in your hands, Cause baby, you're the one that I need, the only one that understands.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Outro: Cause baby, you're my forever love, And I'll thank the stars above, For giving me you, my love.

What is your initial fan story? (102,626)
by Edward from USA

I was in Kindergarten when Ms. Nuñez played "Open Arms" for us. I stood there open-mouthed, like flabbergasted. A year later I got emancipated and made my mother buy me the Daydream album.

What is your initial fan story? (102,623)
by TJ from Norway

|

I became a fan after watching her debut video in 1990. Vision of Love is still one of my favourite songs. The video brings back so many memories. What I am really sad about is the fact that I didn't realise the reason to buy singles before 1992-93. I remember looking at this Love Takes Time cd single in Copenhagen. It had a cover of her sitting in a chair. Lovely picture.

Maybe an EP or a Maxi Single? (102,604)
by Edward from USA

I disagree. Marian has had a dwindling fanbase for a long time now. Disappearing for huge periods of time at this stage in her career isn't doing her any service. When I say "disappearing", I mean going many years without releasing any new music.

Maybe an EP or a Maxi Single? (102,603)
by Jamie from UK

I disagree, if you're a fan you always have existing albums to listen to, Mariah disappearing for a while isn't gonna change her commercial success at this stage of her career. She's never gonna reach the highs of her earlier career at this point, I'd rather her take her time and do something quality than rush something out. For all we know she might be getting advice to take a new direction in her career, she might be trying to get herself in better shape mentally and physically to appeal to more of a wider audience now she's older. Maybe she's realised she's been erratic at times and has lost touch with the general public. Or maybe she's in a deep depression over her voice not working the way it once did. We will never know what's truly going on with her, and she's in a position where she can do as she pleases, she has nothing to prove anymore. Rest assured though people like Mariah will never just disappear, she has her legacy already she's done extremely well to continue to be in the public eye at this point. Cut the girl some slack she's already given us more than some artists do in their entire career. God bless Mariah and hope all is well with her.

Maybe an EP or a Maxi Single? (102,601)

Remember that record labels as we knew them don't exist anymore. Recording an album might be more expensive than the revenue they would get from it, especially from a legacy artist like Mariah. I think she should go independent at this point.

Apparently, record labels don't think so either. Who would have thought that Mariah Carey would be without record label? Something ain't right with that picture. Where did MC go wrong from 2015- 2019? I don't think that she ever makes the Hot 100 top 10 ever again.

Things are not as difficult as they used to be. Technology has made it possible to have so many tools at our disposal, we can create great music and videos without having to drain our pockets dry. There are movies filmed with cellphones that you would believe were filmed with the best equipment. Physical CD's are almost a thing of past, so Mariah can go independent, release her music online, and bundled her albums with the price of concert tickets like many artists do nowadays. What she doesn't realize is that with people having the attention span of a goldfish, disappearing for long periods of time without any new music to keep her hardcore fan base entertained is not good. Why no release The Rarities 2 and then a new album next year?

I do agree that MC is going to lose fans if she doesn't release an album soon, however, I don't know if releasing a studio album is profitable for her anymore. I'm noticing that Cardi B hasn't released her second album. Many other acts wait a long time between albums. We got spoiled by the 90s. Maybe MC could give as an EP or a maxi-single with different versions like I Still Believe or My All/Stay Awhile. It would have to be a killer single though not an Infinity or I Don't.

How dare you? Mariah is at home breastfeeding, bonding with her little twins and frolicking with Tanaka. She can release her next project in 2026 when the twins are ready to enter kindergarden. Believe me when I tell you that we, her three remaining fans, will be here waiting. I'll purchase two copies.

New Mariah titles (one word) (102,564)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Since you seem to be a baby lamb, let me enlighten you with some basic knowledge, there's nobody white on Mariah Carey paternal side.
Mariah's Carey paternal grandmother was Addie Carey. Addie was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina to an Alabama-born mother Emma Cutright and a North Carolina-born father Will Cole. She was a dark skinned woman of African-American descent. According to an interview with Mariah, Addie had a sister called Sarah Cole Reese ("Nana Reese") who was a Pentecostal Minister. She was called over to the family home when Mariah was 4 years old after an incident occurred involving Mariah's family.
On 16 August 1928, Addie married Robert Carey (formerly Roberto Nuñez) in Manhattan, New York City. A year later she gave birth to a son, Alfred Roy Carey, Mariah's father. In 1930 she is listed on the census as living on St Nicholas Avenue, Manhattan N.Y.C with Alfred and Robert.
When Alfred was a young boy, Addie and Robert got a divorce. Alfred was subsequently raised by his mother Addie in both Harlem and the Bronx.
However, Robert Carey ended up remarrying a woman referred to by Mariah as her step-grandmother "Nana Ruby". They had two or more daughters together. Alfred therefore has two or more half sisters through his father. Mariah only got to meet her paternal grandfather Robert when she was roughly around the age of 6 as her father was raised almost exclusively by his mother Addie. As of the mid-late 2000s, Mariah's step grandmother was still alive.
It was mentioned from an interview in the early 90's that on the odd occasion, Mariah would accompany her grandmother Addie to a Pentecostal Church when she was a young girl. She was described by Mariah as "statuesque" and "beautiful", but also "blunt" as she had a tendency to be "really rough at times".
According to various interviews with Mariah throughout the 2000's, Addie made a small fortune working in Real Estate. She was known to be a very spiritual person. According to Mariah's second cousin Lavinia, Addie had a charm bracelet which included a mustard seed charm.
If you would like a picture of Ms. Addie Carey, I can provide that too.

You must be confusing sweet Nana Ruby with her actually parental grandmother, whom we don't know much about aside from that fact that she is Venezuelan. But the infamous and loving Nana Ruby is Mariah's grandfathers second wife.
Why would she separate the paternal grandparents and make the point that one was Venezuelan and the other black, I'm assuming the real grandma was white.
I don't recall Mariah mentioning her grandfather's real mother more than once, I would love to know more about her Venezuelan roots. I also don't think Mariah really got to experience that side of her roots.

Actually her grandfather's last name was Nuñez. He changed it to "Carey" when he came to America to be more accepted. He and both his parents were Venezuelan too. Marian's grandmother was African American. Technically her real name would be Mariah Nuñez.

We actually find out in the #1 best seller memoir by hers truly. That Mariah's father's father, his name was Bob Carey. His mother was from Venezuela while his father was black.
Ps: Even though you can be a black Venezuelan, most people don't know the difference between race, nationality and ethnicity.

At this point she can have as many splashes as she wants. I don't think after the next project we'll be hearing anything new from her for another five years. I've noticed one thing though, the longer she waits in between albums, the less she sells. Fans can wait, but if they feel neglected, eventually they will jump ship. Taking a 2 or 3-year break is Ok since she'll always be defrosted for Christmas, but after a while we need at least an EP. I hope whatever she's been cooking for five years is worth the wait.

I think she always goes on vacation before promotion. In addition, it's been awhile since Caution. Furthermore, it's been quiet lately. We all know MC can make an album in three months. And for the record I like Rainbow. Her voice is not in great shape but she is the queen of studio magic. Even if MC is not signed, she can easily announce a signing and an album at the same time. What do y'all think?

She should have released the album as "The Art of Letting Go" on the original release date. "Me I Am Mariah" has some good songs, but it does not work as an album. Like "Rainbow," it felt like something she released simply to fulfill contractual obligations. Collaborating with Miguel on "#Beautiful" was a smart move, but the momentum got squandered.

An employee at Walmart was responsible for the title leak, but I doubt it was the reason Mariah scrapped everything. At the time it was about to be released, she was still in a relationship with Nick. When their relationship started going down south is when TAOLG didn't make sense to her anymore.

We can blame Walmart for TAOLG being scrapped. Someone at the retail giant leaked the album title and July 23, 2013 release date. Mariah was pissed and released MIAM less than a year later on May 23, 2014. I believe that Thirsty, $Money, Meteorite, YDKWTD, and Heavenly were recorded after the Wal-Mart leak of TAOLG.

"The Art of Letting Go" was the name of the album, but then it morphed into MIAMTEC. The original concept was scrapped, she recorded new songs, discarded others and TAOLG was relegated to a bonus track. According to Nick, the original "The Art of Letting Go" was classic Mariah, with powerful ballads, he described it as Mariah going back to her roots, but that never happened.

Music Box is what I call a perfectly balanced album, 10 tracks, no waste. Even Everything Fades Away is brilliant. As I stated, MIAM have some great songs and vocal moments, but the sound is mostly dated and depressing. I hide all the knives and any pointy objects when I rarely listen to it. And let's not talk about how Marian perfectly captured Children of the Corn in Super Creepy and how she sung One More Try high on helium. Tracks I still listen too are: Dedicated (those whistles are some of her best), #Beautiful, Make It Look Good (best track), You Don't Know What to Do and Meteorite.

I usually agree wit you Edward but to call MIAMTEC depressing is kinda funny. The second half of Music Box is slit your wrist fantastic. Never Forget You, Without You, Just To Hold You Once Again, All I Ever Wanted and if Sony had the balls to add Everything Fades Away it's the saddest thing since Terms of Endearment. All MC albums are sad to me. That's why I connect. I think MIAMTEC is her worst album but not because it's depressing. It's incoherent and her vocals sound like they were produced by AI.

I can assure you we all here supported her by buying the album, but put your feet on the ground and realize that MIAM didn't connect with the general public. The constant pushbacks, the messy rollout, fans are not to blame. Yes, there were some great songs and vocal moments, but the album is depressing and overproduced. I bought one for me and gifted one, I bought the singles and remixes, but I have rarely listened to the album since its release. While Caution didn't have any vocal moments, it's far superior, in my humble opinion. If you don't grow with your fans, you lose them. Her remaining fans can make much difference at this point, don't put that on us. We've been here patiently waiting for five effing years for new music, we've been supporting any hyped-up half-cooked new songs she puts out every now and then. I know she has to breastfeed the little twins, but come on. We need another Caution but with some vocal moments and more tracks.

Sounds like The Art of Letting Go, but nobody was really here for that. I stand by the fact that MIAM was one of her best projects. I miss albums (102,477)

I totally agree with you. Having an album, a theme, the lyrics on a carefully crafted CD insert was simply a pleasant journey. I remember rushing home with the Butterfly CD still unopened in in my hands. The anticipation felt like having butterflies in my stomach, such a surreal moment, at least for me. Since I hadn't listened to anything other than the "Honey Maxi Single", I almost died when "Butterfly" kicked. I miss those days.

Edward, I get your single idea but it breaks my heart. I feel like an album wouldn't benefit her in this current music industry. But how I miss the anticipation. I miss it being a project. Having a theme. I know it's for the nostalgia but remember waiting outside of Sam Goody or Tower Records? Remember struggling to get that plastic tape off the top of the CD? We don't get liner notes and pictures anymore. It's just sad. Imagine if movies weren't a thing and you just got a scene at a time. Imagine if a baseball game was one inning and everyone went home. I feel like an album is like a novel. A page is special but you need the entire story.
