Mariah during that time was unstoppable. So I believe the duet with Michael Bolton would have been a number one too. Good old days.

So true, really a legue of their own. Kelly Clarkson is defintely a powerhouse with her voice. I forgot Leona Lewis. Her debut has a "Mariah sound".

"Is it because that image is more important than talent these days?" Yes, I think so.
"Or [were] we just very lucky, the ones who are live today, to have witness three extraordinary vocalists like those three." That's also true. We (the y-generation) hit the jackpot musically. As sh.. as the times are today, so is the music. Sorry but that's what comes to mind.
The last good vocalist, that's a good question. I would choose Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys when they started, and well a big suprise: Adele. But there's no more "new Mariah" on the horizon and I guess never will. So we are very lucky to have witnessed all the true superstars like Whitney, Michael, Celine and the one only Miss Mariah Carey.

The person who wrote the article may be a little Grinch but he's not wrong. As much as I love MC's Christmas songs, it's time for something new. A Jazz album. Happy New Year everyone. Stay save and sound.

Article: Merry Christmas from Hollywood (99,295)

Voila the new pics are really sweet. Love the pyjama Christmas pics. Mariah with the dress in the snow is beautiful as well. It looks like "old Hollywood" classy with divastyle. Thumbs up.

Totally agree, that look was everything. First Lady of music, love that title. Very true. She looked like a supermodel, princess and a superstar with charism that outshined every other woman. Just like a sweet, sweet fantasy.

Yes, she doesn't need to show. The whole world knows she's ultimate rich. If she wears classy clothes, or casual, she looks phenomenal and the best. I love all the "regular girl" outfits and of course the classy ones. The red snowsuit on "AIWFCIY" is so sweet and beautiful on her. The "trendy, expensive clothes aren't flattering at all". These are often for nouveau riche. Mariah is a natural beauty, she should know less is more. Merry Christmas everyone.

I thought the same. I hope I'm wrong but I also have a feeling that she's not "in a good place". I really wish to see her happy, confident, grown-up and carefree again. These are hard times for everyone. It's tough to stay optimistic. But one must try.

Every human being has a side that looks better, even if the face is very symmetrical. That's normal. But no one talks about it as much as Mariah does. Lol. I will never understand how Mariah can be so insecure. In the 90ies Mariah was looking like a super model, even in jeans and flannel shirts. So beautiful, no one has seen a "bad" side.

It's such a beautiful song. I always here [sic] Mariah instead of Faith on my mind. Faith Hill did great with MC's demo. I really hope we could hear Mariah's version from that time. Can't believe it's been 22 years. I remember I went to the cinema (Grinch) and liked the song immediately.

Yes to think about it, also makes sense. Very sad. I think that's one reason why she loves Marilyn Monroe so much. There are paralles with them. And no money and fame can heal a broken or "wounded" heart/soul. I really hope she finds true happiness and will never be exploited again.

"I will just cherish her first four albums for showcasing her in prime vocal state. She was the vocal queen back in the early 90s." Yes, the same here. I will always cherish her. Her voice during the 90ies was out of this world. There will never be a voice like hers again. Songs from her first albums still bring me to tears because she really touches the heart. It's an experience to listen to her first recordings and always will be. I also love "Daydream", "Glitter" and "Charmbracelet". I'm still waiting for a jazz-album, there's no need for autotune. Mariah could surprise everyone with it.

"If she had slowed down between '97 and '99, I think Mariah would've saved her voice." That's what I believe as well. All the touring, concerts around the world, too much for her sensitive voice. Plus she was on every tv-show during the time. Mariah was powering non-stop to show the music world she's the one even without Tommy. That's a drama.

That's really a good theory. Sounds very logical. If you think about the reason that MC felt like a prisoner, while finally "free", it all started as you mentioned.

That's very smart from Miss Streisand. I will never understand how a natural beauty like Mariah could risk and loose her voice because of things that were not necessary. I mean if you have the best voice in the world how can you risk it? Of course every day tea sounds boring, and I don't think sometimes a good glass of wine would be super bad for a voice. But smoke and surgery just no. But yes, it is what it is. Sadly.

Yeah, I hope so too. The songs from "Butterfly" are so perfect, there should never be a "new arranged version" of these wonderful songs. I'm waiting for new music, not "new" versions of "The Roof". Please not.

"Those lyrics and productions must improve dramatically." I hope so too. I don't expect 90ies quality as well, luckily we can listen to those magic songs over and over again. But real musicians would make a big difference indeed. Not only a "cool" producer. One can dream.

Who's loving you / debut era (99,049)

Have you heard this? I think it's just a rehearsal by Mariah and her fabulous background singers at that time. Sounds like year 90. I love it. All her background singers were so great too. They sounded more natural and soulful than Khalil on the new Christmas song.

Robert-Anthony you read my mind. I swear I just bought the CD Traveller last week, because I'm addicted to the soulful "Tennessee Whiskey". And just yesterday I was thinking the same. How would it sound if they had a duet song together. Music for "grown-ups" with great lyrics and soul. Mariah and Chris, yes, yes, yes.

"Remembering how natural she used to be, both vocally and in herself." Absolutely, that's the Mariah you could only love. Nobody could compare with her at that time. I will listen to the concert too. What a night at that church in NY. I miss the natural, carefree Mariah. Luckily we can watch it over and over again. Honestly I'm not in a Christmas mood right now (not because it's early, but because of the difficult time) but when I see Mariah at St. John The Devine, it does something to the heart. It's pure joy for the eyes and ears. MC at her best.

Mariah and McDonald's, hmm I wouldn't choose it. Her 90ies commercials were cool, I love the japan commercials with the lipstick and Nescafé. Haha. Today it's too much with all that commercials for my taste.

Yes, the first part of the song reminds me of "My All", "After Tonight" too. I enjoy that part after the first listen, but I think at 3:35 minutes it sounds like another song, that's a bit strange. A pop Christmas song and gospel at the end doesn't fit well together. A Christmas song for the radio/streaming and a gospel song for the fans would fit better. But I'm happy to hear something new.
