I saw Ariana's imitations on YouTube and she's a talented mimic. I'm not sure if she's a talented singer or just mimicking one.

It's finally over (63,598)
by Ardis Logic from Earth

It took long enough, but he finally signed the divorce papers. Now MC can finally move on with her fab life. She seems to be very happy about it. What in the world took so long? He was the one who filed in the first place. Anyway, just glad it's over and done. I can't wait to see her wedding gown. I'm sure she will be stunning. As for his little rap, I don't think anyone really cares about what he has to say, just be a good daddy to your kids and that's all he needs to worry about.

I know. It's the best she's done it in a long time. Live through and through. So proud of her. This is the video I'd show naysayers blabbering on about how she can't sing anymore.

Beautiful performance. Confident and full tone. I don't know if people have been checking out recent Vegas footage, but there are some really lovely ones and maybe it's just me, but it's nice focusing on the music.

Ariana can't sing? I have to disagree. Although she's miles away from Mariah, that doesn't mean she can't sing. She does have technical issues (one being the jaw-floppy thing Andrew mentioned, it's because her jaw is tense while singing, especially when singing runs), but that doesn't mean she can't sing. Just because someone isn't as good as Mariah, doesn't mean that person automatically can't sing.

The truth (63,591)

Thank you for this. Though I always thought Demi has some vocals too but this entire thing is the best, only facts once and for all. It's crazy because Demi's fans on the comment section only responses with unnecessary and irrelevant things like ("Demi queen yasss") and curse words, they can't handle the truth lol. Kidding aside, this really address the entire thing and I hope other people who write off Mariah will see this.

I couldn't agree more. They tried to copy her style, her melodies and everything in between. Just because she has a big voice, they thought why not brand her as the next Mariah. Once it backfired, they had to distance herself. Thing is Ariana maybe one of the better singers of the current generation but her tone, her clarity, her enunciation is no way near what Mariah Carey has. Even if we compare 20 year old Mariah with 20 year old Ariana, there is a huge difference. From the very beginning Mariah had excellent control. Ariana can hit the whistle, but even close to the ease and fluidity with which Mariah can. Ariana's whistles comes across as a screeching noise, while Mariah's whistles have a beautiful melody, almost soothing. Moreover I have noticed Ariana can't hold on to her whistle, like Mariah does. Ariana's is just a short burst of screech and then she's done. I can appreciate Ariana's music now because she is trying to change up her sound but the girl is far from having her own distinct sound. She is stuck alternating between Mariah, Christina and Britney. I say Britney because she tries that sexy vocal fry situation, but it doesn't go well most of the time.

Re: The makeup (63,581) (63,589)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

While it is true that they do need to wear more makeup than usual for TV and stage, but Mariah's eye makeup is a mess. In the Sharon Osbourne interview, the recent E News interview and some of her other appearances. They try to do a smokey cat eye look on her and it just drags her eye upwards, making her naturally beautiful almond shaped eyes look slanted and ages her. She looks much better with a softer natural eye makeup, and less harsh contour. Exhibit A, B and C. These makeup looks are more flattering on her. The Kardashians, even though they are always caked up, are actually quite brilliant in makeup artistry. You will see they always focus on a flawless skin and perfect contour, but they hardly ever go for heavy eye makeup. Very rarely do any of them have really heavy eye make up. Mariah is naturally so beautiful, she doesn't need that much eye makeup. Just the basic amount of TV makeup.

Mariah and John (63,588)

So John Legend was brought up on stage during TMB. Chrissy Teigen was also there. I don't know if Shawn's tweet is hinting at a collaboration between Mariah and John or the fact that he would be brought up on stage later that night.

I just watched it. Almost the whole thing is lipped. The only parts that obviously aren't are the parts that sound stressed. Are we back to pretending stuff is live when it's not, again? What are you impressed with? Autotuned playback? Lol you couldn't make this nonsense up.

Ariana and her team played up the Mariah comparisons and encouraged them. She isn't as good as Mariah was at her age and when people started to notice she started distancing herself from Mariah.

Demi (63,577)
by Otti from Belgium

Mariah Carey is always surrounded by jealousy and hate. Do you know why? Because she has it all. Think of her video's like "Honey", "Heartbreaker", "We belong together". If you compared her with her competions like Whitney and Celine, who are only famous by their songs. Every young female copies Mariah. From Britney to Demi, but they forget one thing, Mariah has the voice, and she can do whatever she wants with her voice. The big hair, body en sexiness, but her songs are too good to. And Miss Demi is so frustrated, when she starts to hate, with no reason. Haters gone hate. Ariana can't sing, she is a good imitator, she proves that more than once, from Shakira to Britney.

Vegas (63,576)
by Will from England
| |
|
|
Why does Vegas need to end, in order for Mariah to record an album? Celine has done it many times during her residency there, and even though she doesn't write her songs, has put out some good albums with strong material (mostly). I don't understand this mentality. People once lamented the fact that she rarely performs live/performs infrequently, that now she's doing her residency, performing frequently, they want her to stop. Recently, Vegas has been Mariah's more successful venture by far in terms of publicity, performance wise (the TGIFY performance(s) have stolen the show and gets her to flex those chords) and (for her) profit wise. She's not the stupid to stop something that actually is working for her and having a positive effect. She's regained her confidence on stage, and her voice is better than ever, plus she's probably in profit now. We know she has a tendency to walk away quickly if it's not working. The drink? Gone. Vanished. Angel Champagne? Remember that was going to be a think? MAC lipstick? Has not mentioned it at all. Films? They take time to produce and put together. HSN/perfumes? Need I say more? We won't be getting another Mariah album for, I guess maybe, a year or two. She may want to get back to the studio, but that doesn't always mean that the results would be worth putting out. "Triumphant" taught her (and us) that. Right now, she's in one place, singing the hits people want to hear (and doing so spectacularly), spending time with her kids and whatnot, and between then can record in a studio and slowly put together an album. Right now, Vegas is working for her, so I think she'll stay there for as long as she can.
