Mariah was the most qualified but she wasn't good at it. She was rather boring and couldn't articulate her thoughts easily. Everybody was always waiting for those enlightening critique moments, but they never came. Wait, there was an enlightening moment when she became the first judge ever to get late to the show set, the other judges had already started taping without her, and when she showed up, she said: "If you want a diva, you have to pay the price." Many times she went on her usual diva tangents and rather than being a judge, she was more worried about being nice. As much as I hate to say it, Nicki was better at it. Some people are or have a well of knowledge, they could be great at using it, but few have the skill to teach it. Mariah is great as a mentor, she's shown it on some shows, but she should stay away from judging on singing competitions. The good things is that she knows it.

I can't believe I'm bringing this up here and now after all these years but it's got to be said. And I'm not going to apologize for it. Mariah Carey was the most qualified to be a judge on American Idol than anyone else. Period. I'm not discounting anyone else's talents at all. I liked most of them, except the one we "don't know " and that other one that dared to attack MC. The nerve. I really wish Mariah had stayed on the show longer than one season because I enjoyed her mentoring the contestants. She actually knows a lot about the music industry and could have helped so many others. It's a shame what happened during her season. I hope we can one day get another show where she helps nurture and mentors young talent but without all the drama. She's just such a legend and a living Icon. We need to appreciate her because tomorrow is not promised. Remember, she owes no one anything.

Randy follow up (102,791)
by Edward from USA

Disney commissioned Simone Porter, Justin Gray, and Lindsey Ray to write Almost Home. Mariah Carey later signed on to sing it. She and production team Stargate later changed it a bit and ultimately, completed it. She was never asked to write the song, and I'm happy for that. Almost Home is the closest we got to 90's Mariah. Had Mariah been able to change significant part of the song, she would be singing a different tune. Probably they could only tweak the production a bit.

Almost Home - Mariah actually did write a song for that, but after she turned it in they practically re-wrote the entire thing. That's not what she wrote, but that's why they gave her a writing credit. She was still under contract, so when studio time came for her to sing it and she saw the finished project wasn't her song, she still had to sing it. The second part of songwriting is "how" you sing it, I'm not sure how much of the original of Mariah's writing in that sense made it to the final product either. However, it sounds like Mariah's style during the climax with all the extra Mariahs.

Right here in Bala Cynwyd in Philadelphia area made me happy as a lamb. Katy Perry's Roar played and then followed by WBT. And boy I hear a lot of of women singing in the background. I hope Mariah knows how much of a genius she is in penning such a classic that makes a lot of people sing and memorize all the words and not just like Oprah pretending to know. And yes Katy, Mariah is famous for a throwback, very very famous.

Hi Eric. It is good to see your website still going strong.
Six years have passed since Martyn's light was so sadly extinguished at the Manchester Arena (May 22, 2016). Martyn was effortlessly fair-minded, generous of spirit and had a wonderful sense of humour. His death and the deaths of those other souls who perished in the attack was senseless.
I wonder if you would mark the anniversary of his passing somehow on your site as he was, if anything, one of the all-time greatest Mariah fans and an avid visitor to your messageboard. So much time has now passed that it is not difficult to forget and move on.
But I thought perhaps to remind you to rekindle the memory of him in those that may still post on your board who posted way way back when... that he was here, he was as one of us and (as in his favourite song) he will be loved till the end of time.
I wish you well. Andrew.

So, how would a vocal coach characterized MC's vocal issues? Maybe a deteriorating range, breathing problems, vocal chords closing up or inability to modulate notes to just sing at all anymore? I would like to know one day. Something is just not right with her voice.

Is it true to say that you were not impressed with her vocals last night? She did reach for some high notes that she could not execute well, but overall I feel she is using what's left of her voice. In my opinion, MC ruined her voice with the constant heavy belting and singing in that breathiness tone.

She'll eventually be inducted, Randy, just be patient. As for an EGOT, well, she could definitely get an EGT. Even if her fairy godmother turned her into a great actress, I doubt she would ever get an Oscar. It's OK though, she doesn't need it.

So again MC doesn't make it? And every relevant pop diva has (Madonna, Janet and Whitney). I'm disgusted. But yass queens and delusionals will say she doesn't need it, she's broken records and she's a legend in her own right. The Tony award nomination is exciting. Imagine if MC was to eventually earn an EGOT. She should've been nominated for an Oscar for Right To Dream. Oh shut up y'all.

AI Mariah Carey songs (102,635)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I asked AI to write song as Mariah Carey would write it, and here's what it came up with.
Verse 1: I never thought that love could be so real, But then you walked into my life, and now I feel, A passion deep inside my soul, A flame that burns beyond control.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Verse 2: With every breath I take, I feel your love, It's like a melody, that's sung from up above, And every time I look into your eyes, I'm lost in a world, where love never dies.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Bridge: And in this world, that's so full of pain, You are the sunshine, that breaks through the rain, And I'll never let you go, my heart's in your hands, Cause baby, you're the one that I need, the only one that understands.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Outro: Cause baby, you're my forever love, And I'll thank the stars above, For giving me you, my love.

I became a fan after watching her debut video in 1990. Vision of Love is still one of my favourite songs. The video brings back so many memories. What I am really sad about is the fact that I didn't realise the reason to buy singles before 1992-93. I remember looking at this Love Takes Time cd single in Copenhagen. It had a cover of her sitting in a chair. Lovely picture.

Maybe an EP or a Maxi Single? (102,604)

I disagree. Marian has had a dwindling fanbase for a long time now. Disappearing for huge periods of time at this stage in her career isn't doing her any service. When I say "disappearing", I mean going many years without releasing any new music.

I disagree, if you're a fan you always have existing albums to listen to, Mariah disappearing for a while isn't gonna change her commercial success at this stage of her career. She's never gonna reach the highs of her earlier career at this point, I'd rather her take her time and do something quality than rush something out. For all we know she might be getting advice to take a new direction in her career, she might be trying to get herself in better shape mentally and physically to appeal to more of a wider audience now she's older. Maybe she's realised she's been erratic at times and has lost touch with the general public. Or maybe she's in a deep depression over her voice not working the way it once did. We will never know what's truly going on with her, and she's in a position where she can do as she pleases, she has nothing to prove anymore. Rest assured though people like Mariah will never just disappear, she has her legacy already she's done extremely well to continue to be in the public eye at this point. Cut the girl some slack she's already given us more than some artists do in their entire career. God bless Mariah and hope all is well with her.

Remember that record labels as we knew them don't exist anymore. Recording an album might be more expensive than the revenue they would get from it, especially from a legacy artist like Mariah. I think she should go independent at this point.

Things are not as difficult as they used to be. Technology has made it possible to have so many tools at our disposal, we can create great music and videos without having to drain our pockets dry. There are movies filmed with cellphones that you would believe were filmed with the best equipment. Physical CD's are almost a thing of past, so Mariah can go independent, release her music online, and bundled her albums with the price of concert tickets like many artists do nowadays. What she doesn't realize is that with people having the attention span of a goldfish, disappearing for long periods of time without any new music to keep her hardcore fan base entertained is not good. Why no release The Rarities 2 and then a new album next year?

I do agree that MC is going to lose fans if she doesn't release an album soon, however, I don't know if releasing a studio album is profitable for her anymore. I'm noticing that Cardi B hasn't released her second album. Many other acts wait a long time between albums. We got spoiled by the 90s. Maybe MC could give as an EP or a maxi-single with different versions like I Still Believe or My All/Stay Awhile. It would have to be a killer single though not an Infinity or I Don't.

New Mariah titles (one word) (102,564)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Since you seem to be a baby lamb, let me enlighten you with some basic knowledge, there's nobody white on Mariah Carey paternal side.
Mariah's Carey paternal grandmother was Addie Carey. Addie was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina to an Alabama-born mother Emma Cutright and a North Carolina-born father Will Cole. She was a dark skinned woman of African-American descent. According to an interview with Mariah, Addie had a sister called Sarah Cole Reese ("Nana Reese") who was a Pentecostal Minister. She was called over to the family home when Mariah was 4 years old after an incident occurred involving Mariah's family.
On 16 August 1928, Addie married Robert Carey (formerly Roberto Nuñez) in Manhattan, New York City. A year later she gave birth to a son, Alfred Roy Carey, Mariah's father. In 1930 she is listed on the census as living on St Nicholas Avenue, Manhattan N.Y.C with Alfred and Robert.
When Alfred was a young boy, Addie and Robert got a divorce. Alfred was subsequently raised by his mother Addie in both Harlem and the Bronx.
However, Robert Carey ended up remarrying a woman referred to by Mariah as her step-grandmother "Nana Ruby". They had two or more daughters together. Alfred therefore has two or more half sisters through his father. Mariah only got to meet her paternal grandfather Robert when she was roughly around the age of 6 as her father was raised almost exclusively by his mother Addie. As of the mid-late 2000s, Mariah's step grandmother was still alive.
It was mentioned from an interview in the early 90's that on the odd occasion, Mariah would accompany her grandmother Addie to a Pentecostal Church when she was a young girl. She was described by Mariah as "statuesque" and "beautiful", but also "blunt" as she had a tendency to be "really rough at times".
According to various interviews with Mariah throughout the 2000's, Addie made a small fortune working in Real Estate. She was known to be a very spiritual person. According to Mariah's second cousin Lavinia, Addie had a charm bracelet which included a mustard seed charm.
If you would like a picture of Ms. Addie Carey, I can provide that too.

You must be confusing sweet Nana Ruby with her actually parental grandmother, whom we don't know much about aside from that fact that she is Venezuelan. But the infamous and loving Nana Ruby is Mariah's grandfathers second wife.
Why would she separate the paternal grandparents and make the point that one was Venezuelan and the other black, I'm assuming the real grandma was white.
I don't recall Mariah mentioning her grandfather's real mother more than once, I would love to know more about her Venezuelan roots. I also don't think Mariah really got to experience that side of her roots.

Actually her grandfather's last name was Nuñez. He changed it to "Carey" when he came to America to be more accepted. He and both his parents were Venezuelan too. Marian's grandmother was African American. Technically her real name would be Mariah Nuñez.

We actually find out in the #1 best seller memoir by hers truly. That Mariah's father's father, his name was Bob Carey. His mother was from Venezuela while his father was black.

At this point she can have as many splashes as she wants. I don't think after the next project we'll be hearing anything new from her for another five years. I've noticed one thing though, the longer she waits in between albums, the less she sells. Fans can wait, but if they feel neglected, eventually they will jump ship. Taking a 2 or 3-year break is Ok since she'll always be defrosted for Christmas, but after a while we need at least an EP. I hope whatever she's been cooking for five years is worth the wait.

I think so too. I actually think there are a few surprises this year. I want The Rarities 2 first.

I think an album is coming (102,519)

I think she always goes on vacation before promotion. In addition, it's been awhile since Caution. Furthermore, it's been quiet lately. We all know MC can make an album in three months. And for the record I like Rainbow. Her voice is not in great shape but she is the queen of studio magic. Even if MC is not signed, she can easily announce a signing and an album at the same time. What do y'all think?

I agree with you, that's what it feels like. Some great songs, but that's it. Hopefully we get some of those unused tracks on The Rarities 2.

Article: Track list revealed for Mariah's new album (102,514)

She should have released the album as "The Art of Letting Go" on the original release date. "Me I Am Mariah" has some good songs, but it does not work as an album. Like "Rainbow," it felt like something she released simply to fulfill contractual obligations. Collaborating with Miguel on "#Beautiful" was a smart move, but the momentum got squandered.
