American Idol judges (102,798) by Edward from USA Mariah was the most qualified but she wasn't good at it. She was rather boring and couldn't articulate her thoughts easily. Everybody was always waiting for those enlightening critique moments, but they never came. Wait, there was an enlightening moment when she became the first judge ever to get late to the show set, the other judges had already started taping without her, and when she showed up, she said: "If you want a diva, you have to pay the price." Many times she went on her usual diva tangents and rather than being a judge, she was more worried about being nice. As much as I hate to say it, Nicki was better at it. Some people are or have a well of knowledge, they could be great at using it, but few have the skill to teach it. Mariah is great as a mentor, she's shown it on some shows, but she should stay away from judging on singing competitions. The good things is that she knows it. Mariah Carey was the most qualified to be a judge on American Idol than anyone else. Period. I'm not discounting anyone else's talents at all. I liked most of them, except the one we "don't know " and that other one that dared to attack MC. The nerve. I really wish Mariah had stayed on the show longer than one season because I enjoyed her mentoring the contestants. She actually knows a lot about the music industry and could have helped so many others. It's a shame what happened during her season. I hope we can one day get another show where she helps nurture and mentors young talent but without all the drama. She's just such a legend and a living Icon. She and production team Stargate later changed it a bit and ultimately, completed it. She was never asked to write the song, and I'm happy for that. Almost Home is the closest we got to 90's Mariah. Had Mariah been able to change significant part of the song, she would be singing a different tune. Probably they could only tweak the production a bit. Randy follow up (102,788) by Nikki from usa Almost Home - Mariah actually did write a song for that, but after she turned it in they practically re-wrote the entire thing. That's not what she wrote, but that's why they gave her a writing credit. She was still under contract, so when studio time came for her to sing it and she saw the finished project wasn't her song, she still had to sing it. The second part of songwriting is "how" you sing it, I'm not sure how much of the original of Mariah's writing in that sense made it to the final product either. Six years have passed since Martyn's light was so sadly extinguished at the Manchester Arena (May 22, 2016). Martyn was effortlessly fair-minded, generous of spirit and had a wonderful sense of humour. His death and the deaths of those other souls who perished in the attack was senseless. I wonder if you would mark the anniversary of his passing somehow on your site as he was, if anything, one of the all-time greatest Mariah fans and an avid visitor to your messageboard. So much time has now passed that it is not difficult to forget and move on. But I thought perhaps to remind you to rekindle the memory of him in those that may still post on your board who posted way way back when... that he was here, he was as one of us and (as in his favourite song) he will be loved till the end of time. The video brings back so many memories. What I am really sad about is the fact that I didn't realise the reason to buy singles before 1992-93. (102,603) by Jamie from UK I disagree, if you're a fan you always have existing albums to listen to, Mariah disappearing for a while isn't gonna change her commercial success at this stage of her career. She's never gonna reach the highs of her earlier career at this point, I'd rather her take her time and do something quality than rush something out. For all we know she might be getting advice to take a new direction in her career, she might be trying to get herself in better shape mentally and physically to appeal to more of a wider audience now she's older. Maybe she's realised she's been erratic at times and has lost touch with the general public. Or maybe she's in a deep depression over her voice not working the way it once did. We will never know what's truly going on with her, and she's in a position where she can do as she pleases, she has nothing to prove anymore. Rest assured though people like Mariah will never just disappear, she has her legacy already she's done extremely well to continue to be in the public eye at this point. There are movies filmed with cellphones that you would believe were filmed with the best equipment. Physical CD's are almost a thing of past, so Mariah can go independent, release her music online, and bundled her albums with the price of concert tickets like many artists do nowadays. What she doesn't realize is that with people having the attention span of a goldfish, disappearing for long periods of time without any new music to keep her hardcore fan base entertained is not good. Mariah's Carey paternal grandmother was Addie Carey. Addie was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina to an Alabama-born mother Emma Cutright and a North Carolina-born father Will Cole. She was a dark skinned woman of African-American descent. According to an interview with Mariah, Addie had a sister called Sarah Cole Reese ("Nana Reese") who was a Pentecostal Minister. She was called over to the family home when Mariah was 4 years old after an incident occurred involving Mariah's family. On 16 August 1928, Addie married Robert Carey (formerly Roberto Nuñez) in Manhattan, New York City. A year later she gave birth to a son, Alfred Roy Carey, Mariah's father.
