Miss you most at Christmas time (101,953)
by Edward from USA

It is a great song indeed. I loved it since the first time I listened to it. It is just one of those songs that's great lyrically and musically. On top of that, Mariah's yearning makes it perfect. The three original songs on that album are simply great. I know many here don't like "Jesus Born on This Day" but I do love it. Merry Christmas Stacey.

This song came on while running errands. So pretty. I have heard a fair share of AIWFCIY on the radio stations playing Christmas music. But it's been nice to hear other MC Christmas songs that are so so good (Baby Please Come Home, Santa Claus Is Comin To Town). I wish MYM would get more play. It's such a beautiful song.

Article: Mariah Carey scores milestone 10th week at No. 1 (101,945)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Since Billboard calculates the last week of the year as two, should she remain at #1 next week, that's an extra week at #1. AIWFCIY would be sitting nicely with a whopping 12 weeks total till next Christmas season. If things continue this way, 2025 will be the year in which Lil Nas X will have to pass the torch back to the queen.

This is a big deal and we can already predict that over time this song is going to be the longest running Billboard Hot 100 #1 song of all time, a gift that will keep giving until the end of time, literally. Sorry Lil Nas X. Lol. How is this woman so blessed?

What a feast. If AIWFCIY keeps topping the charts for at least 3 weeks for the next 3 years, she'll by herself this time would reclaim the title as "The Artist with the Longest #1 Song" on "Billboard Hot 100" by 2025 with 20 weeks at the top. The OSD record kind of hurt when it was broken.

So what (101,872)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
These supposed fans love it. They are just like Trey, Mary Ann and the rest. They looked at how horrible she did and clap happily in the background. I hate to see her get ridiculed. Marian owns Christmas, she should be ready to kill a few shows once a year. If she isn't then it is OK, but don't tarnish your wonderful legacy with mediocre performance for the sake of money. If you're not in a good place vocally, just don't do those shows until you are in a good place, period.

So what (101,869)
by Jamie from UK
| |

So you would rather her be out there making performances like this? Yeah that’s really gonna do the legacy good. No one here is criticising her, she’s human after all. We’re just concerned as something is clearly wrong. I’ve followed Mariah since I was 11 I think I’m allowed to be concerned about someone I care about and have invested a lot of time in. I hope she is reading this forum then she will see how much her fans care about her welfare.

Why is everyone surprised? (101,855)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I was in the audience when she recorded her session of the BET Network Special in which she sung "With You I'm Born Again" with John Legend. I had to stand in line for 3 hours, but it was worth the wait because she was simply great. She just needs to deal with the problem and she'll be fine. She needs real lambs and real friends to tell her she's just further damaging her voice. The cat has been out the bag for years now, she should've been doing something about it. She knew she would be defrosted for these few shows, she should've been better prepared. Lose the weight and avoid the effing restricting corsets, get a vocal coach and get the voice in shape. She might sound good on a clip on Instagram, but the problem has always been about consistency with her.

That's a fair point you raised at the end there. As it's been so long, is she supposed to say she's been fooling everybody for 25 years? I think we just value Mariah's voice, legacy and music more than she does. She clearly cares more about how she looks, the bank balance, and her endorsements over her voice, her music, and her legacy. It is incredibly sad, but perhaps she simply does not care about it as much as we do.

MIAM has some great vocal moments. The whistles on Dedicated are some of her best, in my opinion. "The Art of Letting Go" is the last song I remember she sung in full voice, the climax is just great. Sadly four years later her range had reduced by almost halve on "Caution", and four years after there's almost nothing left. Even though I was quite impressed with her vocals on "The Roof Re-imagined".

I just realized this today. The last time MC sung her butt off was on You're Mine (Eternal). The highs and lows on the song were executed very well. Wow. That was in 2014. It will be almost 10 years next year. I guess it is time to order me a FYE CD of the You're Mine remixes.

I'm pretty sure Trey, Tanaka and Mary Ann would say the same. The evidence says otherwise though. Many attendees are commenting that while it was fun, they noticed the struggle on the live parts. Of course as good lambs many are blaming it on the shows in Toronto. Sadly, she won't do anything about until another very publicized new year disaster happen again. If she were to go on tour with her newly recovered pandemic voice with two year rest, she would not make it past 3 shows and she knows it. Don't expect her going on tour after this. At this point it seems she's damaging her voice further trying to sing. I hope she doesn't listen to the sycophants and ass kissers and take care of her instrument, an instrument that has been considered national treasure.

Joseph Kahn who has worked with Mariah on so many videos, my fave is #Beautiful. He has also worked with everyone from Snoop, Taylor swift, Britney to Chris brown.
He wrote this after Mariahs show: "I've been working with Mariah Carey for over 20 years but tonight is the first time I've seen her live in concert, and I'm blown away. Her voice goes from soul to pop to opera effortlessly in seconds. No one like her. Wow."

Who was actually there? Toronto shows (101,819)
by Edward from USA
| |

I couldn't have said better. I've gone to the Christmas shows three times at Beacon Theater, and with the euphoria and excitement, one don't really notice the miming or even the struggle unless it is really bad. At Beacon Theater she was way better than this, but guess what? When I got home, and looked at the videos my friend and I recorded from third row, I could notice everything, the good and the not so good, but at that point, the not so good was very decent. She wasn't sing-shouting or singing as if she was in pain or constipated. It's delusional to think that cellphone recordings are altering anything to make her look bad. Video and sound from camcorders can't compete with the high quality of cellphones recordings nowadays, but if you watch that awful recording of Mariah on the Music Box Tour, you would notice that while the image was bad, Mariah sounded amazing, so there goes that theory. If anything, fan's recordings with cellphones have just come to expose her, that's all. Nobody is expecting her to sound like in the 1990's, but she should have some respect for the people who are paying their hard earned money to go see a decent show and there's nothing wrong about it. Mariah doesn't owe us anything, but we don't owe her anything either. It's only fair to demand a decent performance for a decent amount of money. Being delusional is looking at those recordings and think that the recordings are so distorted that they make her sound as if were struggling or plain flat.

The benefit of phone recordings is that they remove the reverb. So it becomes abundantly clear when the lip syncing and pre-records kick in. Usually though we are put on notice as Mariah will fiddle with the malfunctioning ear piece (which I think is actually her cue to the sound technician), and then waggle her head when she mimes the note. If you enjoyed the concert good for you, but any spectator can see it was one of her worst yet. Hardly phenomenal as you put it. That status is reserved for the Daydream Tour stop at London on June 23rd 1996. What an evening that was. Sorry you missed out.

Chart question (101,618)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Remember that during the 90's they were heavily invested in getting people to buying albums, because singles would usually cannibalize album sales, that's why "Can't Let Go" never made to #1. The rules were also different then. Many songs were #1 on airplay, but since they weren't commercially available as physical singles, they were not allowed to chart. AIWFCIY has benefited from such the rule change for four years now, and it will eventually claim the record as the song with moths weeks at #1 in about three more years if it keeps scoring at least 3 weeks at #1 per year.

Chart question (101,617)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
Does anyone remember Columbia's marketing and chart strategy in 1995-1997 to cause Fantasy, One Sweet Day, and Honey to debut at #1 on Hot 100? It had to be more than radio airplay and physical sales. I think back then that new singles were released to radio and retailers on Tuesday. MC only did it during that time only. Butterfly could have done the same thing, but Tommy must have pulled all Butterfly marketing money to lessen the shine on the song's poignant message and lyrics that made him not too happy about his wife breaking free from him.

Now that Mariah has cemented her name and brand for Christmas season (#1 song, books, legacy) don't you guys think Mariah should invest in her own big budget blockbuster Christmas movie, the movie where people would tune in to every Christmas, like Home Alone, Love Actually, The Grinch. I'm not talking about that low budget Hallmark movie, Christmas Melody, that Mariah acted and produced, I want a big budget movie where Mariah and A-list actor as romantic interest, maybe Dwayne, Ryan Reynolds etc.
