These songs that artists are releasing in 2024 lack creativity. Dua Lipa and Katy Perry may save 2024. MC probably needs another year to improve her vocal range. Maybe 2025 is best.

I love Cardi but I'm relieved that Mariah isn't on it, because it's just not catchy. Yes, the video is also rachet [sic]. It doesn't seem like it's not even going to debut in the top 40, which is surprising for a major current rap artist.

No new album in 2024 (105,848)
by T from USA

I'm hearing that there indeed will be no new album this year. MC16 is nowhere near completion and she doesn't have a label either. For fans that loved MIAMTEC I'm sure when something finally comes it will be in the vein of that album that took time to release (2011-2014). And less like Caution that was all done in a matter of months. Jay Z and Roc Nation lined up ten different producers and Mariah just banged out Caution in record time. MC16 will be more of a personal work that has sit with her for years before release. The question will be if any of the Butterfly Lounge ideas will make it on. The Yes And remix was recorded to hold fans over until Christmas which will be a big 30th anniversary later this year. Hopefully there will be one more song release this year as well, but it doesn't look like it.

I hope she continues to take her time. She said she was rushed into releasing Caution and she didn't get to craft that album exactly how she wanted to. I hope we get an upbeat r&b/doo wop song from her like Dreamlover and It's a Wrap when she dies come back out. I miss those types of lead singles. I'm glad she is jumping on remixes as this gives her added exposure to a younger audience without any risk. Hopefully artists of the moment will want to duet or ask for a feature. If one so happens to become successful, she can follow it up with her own lead single.

Heartbreaker for Glitter (105,844)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
I just listened to Heartbreaker trying to figure out how it could have been used for Glitter. I don't think Heartbreaker could have worked as well as Loverboy. Maybe it was the script change that was apart of the film's delay that caused MC not to even consider Heartbreaker for Glitter. Maybe MC saving it, gave her the genius idea to use Val Young's If You Should Ever Be Lonely for the Junior Vasquez remixes. That interpolation was just a brillant sample idea.

Angels Advocate (105,836)
by T from USA

I think timelines get a little mixed up around this period. Mariah had a miscarriage in the fall of 2008. Heartbroken she was encouraged to go back into the studio and create an album, which ended up becoming Memoirs. So by the time the album came out in the fall of 2009, she was on the promotional road for the album. But unfortunately she talked more about her small cameo in the movie Precious, then she did about her new album. The album didn't meet expectations and had a huge budget that did not make the dollars back at the time so the other two versions were shelved, she got pregnant in 2010 and moved on to a Christmas release in the fall of '10. I think letting Angels Advocate go is something we need to do, as if it was good it would've already seen the light of day in some capacity. I've personally heard ten of the fourteen songs and I can undoubtedly say I like the original solo versions better.

Not sure how this would work with Whitney being dead for over a decade now. Or do you mean these could've been the mixes that came out at the time in 2002? Because if she was to remix Charmbracelet in 2024, I think the list of artists attached would be vastly different then the ones you have there.

Why didn't L.A. Reid release it? I think it was because he put so much money into that Elle insert that he didn't want another failed MC album release under his leadership. Non-fans were just not feeling Memoirs to justify a remix album. I hope she gives us something in MC16 that will make us happy.

Everyone claiming a Cardi song and just giving up on YAR are in for a big surprise as there is no Cardi B collaboration coming this year. She's releasing a song with Shakira on March 22nd and a solo song as well. We as fans need to focus on the things that actually happen like a collaboration with the biggest streaming artist currently in Ariana Grande. Getting YAR into the top 10 would've done wonders for the song and set Mariah up with something new to perform in Vegas. Something current and relevant. We were so close to that credit, so close to a top 10 for our MC. The remix was Mariah's new song to hold us over until Christmas, but most were too busy looking for the next new song. As for me, I'm going to continue to stream Yes, And remix and enjoy the fact that she was on a current track in 2024.

It doesn't have any tracks like Nice and Slow, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Daddy's Home, Birthday and OMG. It sits right there with his album Here I Stand - in the markdown clearance bin. I have to say this. MC has had many managers and I don't think those managers have truly been able to solely manage her 100%. She has always been the co-manager in every era except TEOM. She really allowed Benny Medina to manage her 100%. With the others managers she co-managed her career. Just ask JD about his experience. If she would let someone experienced like Ron Fair take control of her career, then we may see her career skyrocket back 2008-2010 status.

I think Mariah's team consistently fails to market her legendary career. Like regular people have no idea how many, she's not just the artist with the most #1's but she's also one of the few female producers (among mostly male producers) who has a high number of #1's. They also forget that out of 19 of her #1's, 18 were written by her. Her team really fails to promote her artistry. Taylor for example everyone goes nuts over how lyrics and her songwriting and she has a course in uni dedicated to her. She even got a honorary doctorate for it. Mariah literally is ten times the writer Taylor will be and yet people barely know she writes her own music. (Come on this woman literally wrote a whole song about this guy's "honey" and how it tastes and made it sound like a romantic innocent song.) Same for the Eras tour. Taylor's reputation was quite damaged since 1989, people weren't really caring for her until the Eras tour and her strategy for it was to turn the tour into something that's "unmissable" creating FOMO around it so even people who don't like her are splurging to watch her. Taylor took the Scooter Braun feud and turned it into a money making machine while simultaneously presenting it as women empowerment movement. Mariah had a very similar situation with Tommy and Sony. Her team could have angled it at how this young girl who was naïve was systematically almost destroyed by her mentor and how she overcame it. She should have done more high profile speaking events. There's a lot they could have done position to position Mariah in an unsinkable powerhouse way early on in her career that would made her base stronger but instead her team is mostly reactive not proactive. Because of the lazy approach she's mostly now known for her ability to sing in whistle register and her Christmas music. She looks great for her age (which is 12) why is her team turning her into a legacy artist?

How does a celebrated artist like JLo release an album that was like part 2 to her previous hit album and it debut at number 38 on the Billboard Top 200 chart? Laughable, right. MC will always have that star power because she was such a determined new artist back in the 90s. She is a legend like Barb[a]ra Streisand. Sometimes I wonder if she didn't release an album every 2 years during those first 10 years, would her voice sound like 1992-1995 Mariah right now. I wonder has that ever crossed her mind in the past 8 years. I know she will give us something we can be proud of like her vocals on BBE.

I think her confidence would be much higher and thus likely to release music more often, do more live performances and be in the spotlight a lot more. It's a shame we have to go so long without hearing new music but we'll always have her extensive catalogue and nobody will take that away or forget her. She should be studied in Music School, I believe some already have. The Mariah Carey course has a nice ring to it. She's unique in a lot of ways, always imitated but never duplicated. My all time favorite artist.

That's good news if true. I honestly think if Mariah is taking this year to experiment and primary do collaborations with multiple artists on their projects I'm open to that too as long as it's not something she won't get credit for. This is why I'm so confused about the lambily. Some of the same people who didn't want her collaborating with Ari and now wanting a Cardi B song. Mariah must be so confused as to who actually is her fanbase and how to sell to them. Personally, I want to hear it all but maybe she should pick a lane and stick to it. If she does go the contemporary route hopefully it will be the last time and then she'll just fully make more mature music like jazz and gospel in her 60's.

However, there is one that beats all seven of these that I mentioned and it should have had a proper video with a huge radio impact.

Rumor has it Mariah has some sort of release planned before her Vegas residency, if it's a "buzz single" I don't want it haha. All her "buzz singles" are dropped and forgotten within days. I would rather a proper era. Yes it won't be close to the TEOM era but with the right team and planning I hope we get a decent one.
