She will be fine (53,482)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I'm for one glad she still has a voice. Her voice will recover just like it did back in 2001 (Charmbracelet to TEOM). Sadly enough she can't really take a long break to help her voice heal because she's already 45 years old and let face it it's tougher for a woman to achieve success in the radio at an older age. She will be okay and I'm sure MC is doing everything possible to help preserve her voice.

Two up tempos tomorrow? (53,397)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I really hope Mariah does something different with Infinity because Emotions is an uptempo and Infinity in someway is also considered an uptempo. It would be amazing if she strip out Infinity like TGIF that way it would contrast nicely with Emotions.

Mariah will never win (53,026)
by Cgee54 from Usa

Do I think Mariah voice was perfect yesterday? No. Do I think she can do better? Yes. Many of you guys are suggesting that she should rework all her old songs with different arrangements and lower the key, which I'm for it. However, if you put yourself in someone else's shoes, someone who is not a Mariah fan. Do you think you'll buy that? If general public go see Mariah in concert is because they expect to hear the songs and the notes the way she sang them on record. Look at TMZ, just because she hit the whistle notes almost exactly like did in the 90s, she's a beast and she is killing ect. Let face it, Mariah is becoming a victim of her own self. There's no win situation for her, if she lowers the key she lost it, if she sings raspy she lost it, if she rearranges the songs she lost it. I'm just glad she still has a voice left inside her after all these years of singing and constant bickering. This is nothing new, she has always been criticized about her voice.

Video plus "weight issues" is late video (52,551)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I suspect the video wasn't fully recorded because she had body insecurities. Remember everyone is always saying she's fat. I'm assuming that she thought, hey, let me lose some more weight before I record this video. The media is so cruel to her and everyone who have curves which is not fair.

Not a big deal, it's just a push (52,400)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |

I think the song is okay, it grew in me after playing it a couple of times. Honestly I wasn't expecting much from this song because to me this is just a push towards a full length album like Charmbracelet was for Emancipation Of Mimi. She needs to focus on Vegas first in order for her to release her next album successfully. It will be okay, at least most blogs and reviews are saying good things about the song and I'm glad she didn't release a song featuring someone.

Def Jam replacement? (52,163)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
Isn't it interesting that Def Jam just signed Leona Lewis? I find it somewhat interesting because Mariah is no longer with them. I never had an issue with her, I just thought she was another singer trying to hard to be another Mariah, no shade. What do you all think?

Good things come with time (51,728)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I'm not really concerned about this compilation album to be honest. It is just something to accompany her residency so I could care less about it. I honestly want her to focus on writing new material for her next studio album and not waste her energy on a compilation album. Things will come in time, I truly hope.

Is only natural for people to change (51,504)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I think it is natural for people to move on to other things. Noting lasts forever and thus things will evolve for better or worse. Lets hope for the best. I do think that Mariah needs a young and eager team that will work to get her to the top. She needs a team that will inject energy and fresh and innovative ideas.

Together, no (51,241)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
Mariah and Brett in my opinion are not that serious about each other, if anything they're just giving the public the illusion of having something together. I'm glad Mariah is finally out and showing Nick Cannon that she can find someone as well. Do I see these two officially dating? No.

A retrospective album with extra bonus songs? (50,826)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
It would be smart for Mariah and Sony to cash on some of the material she didn't or couldn't release in her golden years as a retrospective album of some sort or release her debut album as a legacy version with extra songs and demos. Maybe even the first "Vision of love" video which was scrapped would be nice to see and then release a new studio album. I think she will be in a better place now that she moved back to Sony.

Another tv/concert documentary series (50,578)

I think Mariah would benefit from doing one of these tv documentary/concert like the one she did in 2003 when she released Charmbracelet.

Other artists vocal issues (49,862)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I was reading an article on Bob Dylan voice and it was interesting the recommendations he received by this otolaryngologist. This strike me the most because I honestly believed that practicing scales will do the trick apparently there's much more than just scales. "Surprisingly, practicing scales won't help. The fast-twitch muscles in the vocal cords are not like other muscles - you can't build them up," says Amin. If you could, "singers would have these huge, fat vocal cords and wouldn't be able to breathe. A common solution instead is to work to build up a singer's airflow with exercises and behavioral modifications." Anyway it's a good read and many of the things he said can be applied to MC as well.

What do we know?! (49,716)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
What do we officially know? We know she's divorcing, we know the media is shredding her to pieces, we know the fans and the public is also shredding her to pieces. We know she's having vocal problems. What else do we know that is obvious? In my opinion there's nothing left to do but wait and see how the year plays out. For me is hard to even start speculating what's going on with her because we hardly know anything that's going on with her besides her getting divorced. There's no excuse for her behavior yet I cannot argue or claim that her team is not doing anything about the situation because we don't know if Mariah being Mariah is doing whatever she wants. Depression is real very real and especially when half of the world is telling you, you are not worth anything because the talent that made you famous is in question.

Perfection is a vicious cycle (49,563)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I don't know how low Mariah can sink at this point. I suspect it all started in her debut days because if you pay attention to the MTV unedited concert posted not so long ago you can tell the pressure she felt to be perfect and how she was compelled to re-record Emotions because she probably felt it wasn't perfect enough. Perfection can truly kill someone soul and when someone like Mariah experience not so perfect moments she breaks in pieces. We all know she can sing because we seen it yet the public expect to hear 1990 Mariah and I'm sure deep inside she knows and that's why she's always lip singing when she knows she won't be perfect. I'm sure she heard what happened to Whitney Houston oversees when she decided to go fully live despite of everything she was going through with her voice and yet we saw nothing but "blood" and bad critics attacking her. It is a vicious cycle she agreed to participate in and now we see the consequences of her past actions play out. The public and possibly her team keeps feeding this impossible obsession for perfection which is not healthy. She needs to let Mariah Carey circa 1997 go and she needs to adjust to her new vocal state and admit she was won't sound like her former self anymore and embrace her husky and sweet sound.

Duet album (49,279)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I would love the duet album if it's done right like Toni Bennett duet album which he re-recorded and rearranged to fit his voice and his duet partner. If Mariah does a copy and paste how good of a duet album would that be? Also she needs to pair herself with real singers and not gimmicky intalented singers cough cough Justin Bieber. I'm just saying nevertheless I'm excited she's heading back to Sony.

Don't explain (49,152)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
If I were Mariah I would release an EP with her rendition of Billie Holiday Don't Explain and other jazz/blue songs that represent her pain and her possible anger towards that clown. If Nick thinks he can make a quick buck out of Mariah why can't she? I think jazz can do wonders for Mariah without her straining so much and also the genre suits these kind of situations.

A chance to redo and recreate a magical era (48,895)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I agree with many opinions stated in this blog. I doubt that Mariah will celebrate the anniversary of her debut album. However, I think it would be wise of her to do because this album can help remind the world why she's Mariah Carey to begin with. Also this album can potentially spark interest in her again with the newer generations. This time around she can shape that era into something she wants to remember and be proud of, it would be like a redo. She can also record the song she was supposed to sing with Michael Bolton, I think it was called "We're not making love anymore" although Bolton recorded the song it would be nice to hear Mariah rendition.

Is it time for Mariah to sing "the blues"? (48,799)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I think now is the time for Mariah to record and release a blue/jazz album full of standards and perhaps a song or two that she could write for the album. I think she's going through a lot and I think a jazz album could be a nice way to cope with the hurt and heal. She could channel Billie Holiday with a mix of Sarah Vaughan, it would her version of "Lady sings the blues", all the songs will depict a story like her latest album. She can relieve the classical era of jazz with some nice outfits that mimics the era fashion. There's so much potential for this concept if she just forget about mainstream music. Any thought?

Palm concert a blessing in disguise? (48,695)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I think the Pearl Palms concert is a blessing in disguise because nowadays people need to be reminded of how great Mariah can be live. Yes I agree she doesn't need to prove herself anymore but I think the GP doesn't see that way. This concert is refreshing to hear in audio because of how great she sounds. It may be bootleg perhaps but I think it helps remind the GP of how great she is live when she's rested and calm.

Similar to Maria Callas voice? (48,579)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
Lately I've been hearing Maria Callas recordings and I'm truly struck by the quality of her vocals during the beginning of her career. However upon hearing her last performances the quality in her voice had diminished especially in her upper register. I mean she still could sing but it wasn't the same. Upon researching I found an interview of her speaking about her vocals and how the critics expected her to sound when she was 20. It reminded me of Mariah's current vocal state and maybe if Mariah talks about her vocals in a similar way Maria Callas did maybe the public would understand. Critics since then have been debating why Maria Callas lost her "voice" in her 40s. Some say she stopped her vocal exercises because she was busy taking care of Onassis and critics say she lost her voice when she lost weight. They say that because her posture changed as she lost weight. I know we shouldn't compare an opera singer with a pop singer but Mariah did get trained by her mother which sang opera. An interesting read on Maria Callas voice. Do you think Mariah may have suffered something similar to Maria Callas?

She will only get better whenever she decided to get better (48,219)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
I love Mariah and yesterday performance was okay in my opinion. Not her best but it was enough for me. The melody was still there and the song spirit was there as well. I'm amazed how cynical the world is towards artists with incredible talents, not only towards Mariah but to many others. It's like most people want to see these artists fail so they could later go on Twitter and destroy them, I simply don't get it. Anyway, I think this is the time for Mariah to start making decisions and do something about her career. I would think vocal therapy would do her wonders, but if she's not willing to go for that then I would highly think that maybe the time has come for her to switch to jazz or something other than pop/r&b, something that could help her rediscover her voice and herself. We've all seen how great she sounds in jazz and she's very knowledgeable in the genre. She can do a jazz/blues album where she can give her all and talk about topics that maybe she hasn't been able to speak about in her regular music. Mariah will always be considered a legend and her name will always pop up whenever people speak about vocalists, but I think the time has come for her to really figure out what she's going to do from now on.
