The problem is that I think Mariah was never truly respected by the music industry. Even when she realeased Daydream she was snubbed by the Grammys. Sadly she will be respected when she's gone.

Is Mariah having a midlife crisis? (70,868)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|
|
I'm afraid Mariah may be having a midlife crisis. Think about body suits, younger man (still don't buy that relationship), ageism, and vocal problems. I don't blame, her many people will go through a midlife crisis but luckily most of us won't live ours through cameras. I'm hoping she will get through this and realize her mistakes and get it together.

Insecurities rooted in her voice (70,549)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|
|
This shouldn't be happening to a legendary singer like Mariah at all. I'm afraid she won't fire anyone not even Stella. I think the main problem here is her voice. She doesn't trust her voice to do the job anymore. I think she understands her voice has changed since she refuses to sing without a vocal track. It seems like she's trying to hold on to her youth by "trying" to sound the same as the record. She needs to rearrange her earlier stuff and lower down the key and stop trying to sound like her earlier self. Maybe this is the time to release a jazz album or an album that will translate well in live performances. If Mariah doesn't start doing some damage control herself I'm afraid Vegas and the tour will suffer tremendously. People will always bash her. I'm afraid her past success is becoming her undoing. She set the bar so high in the 90s that not even her can reach it.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey refused to sing during "Carpool Karaoke" (63,153) (63,159)

In her defense she's always getting criticized for every single note that comes out of her mouth. When she sang happy birthday to Sharon she was ripped apart in YouTube claiming she was trying so hard or she wasn't hitting the right notes. I also remember her saying once that she doesn't do karaoke because it turns into a full blown performance. She set the bar way too high and now she's paying for that.

"For crying out loud" is just a phrase. I don't know why people make it a big deal. Is not like she's making shirts and selling them to the fans with the phrase on it. The fans clearly love to play with the phrase judging on the social media pictures. In my honest opinion the photos only show the deep connection Mariah has with her fans. ["For crying out loud" is not only a phrase, it is also a song by Meatloaf.]

Brenda at it again (59,392)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|
|
Did anyone see Brenda K Star crying on a interview that came out on the insider when she was asked if she blames Mariah for ending her career? I really hate people who try to act like a victim when they are not. I mean most of the 80s dance pop singers didn't make the transition from the 80s freestyle/dance sound to the 90 sound. I hate when people blame others for their failure, if she wanted to be successful she would of work hard to get herself another deal. "This one is going to appreciate me and never forget me." Bitter I think so. Here's the interview if anyone cares to see it.

At least Mariah and Celine don't need to recruit "friends" to fill the seats. Now that she has a killer body she can wear an outfit inspired by the video I Stay In Love. She can also look for inspiration in old school Hollywood showgirl movies. She can really do a lot of things in Vegas if she just sit down and plan things out. Sometimes I feel she rushes herself into things without much preparation.

If LA Reid wants to milk Mariah back catalog I hope he at least releases some of her unreleased material like the famous demo tape among other songs like the Crave song.

I disagree. I think it would good for Mariah to switch up her sound slightly. She has done music for more than 20 years and to be honest I don't know how much more pop/r&b she can really do. Pop's main audience doesn't appreciate Mariah's sound without comparing it to Grande's sound although we all know Mariah made that sound popular. I'm just saying that maybe it is time for Mariah to let go of pop and see what she can do with other genres like jazz.

A new sound is a must (59,051)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|
|
I would love for Mariah to do a concept album and let her emotions do the talking just like in jazz. Billie Holiday didn't have a stellar voice but she let her experiences and her phrasing do all the talking. I would love for Mariah either A) do an album like Miguel, abstract in sound but solid in vocal melodies or B) produce and write an album blending different melodies driven from jazz, r&b, and soul and modernize these sounds to make a new sound. I think Mariah should stay away from pop and urban music and produce work that has substance.

I don't think this year Mariah is going to perform in Rockefeller. Although I think she should maybe she didn't get invited or she simply declined the invitation. She needs to come out somewhere and sing live so people would just shut up about her killing her song last year.

I think it is sad how in every performance Mariah gets criticized from all directions. That's why in my opinion she's afraid to sing sometimes. Every performance she does she always has to outdo her younger self and sadly that will never be. I honestly think she has fallen out of love with music and her voice. Is there a task for her now and not something she loves to do? She even stated in one interview that she can't even do karokee without doing a technical flawless performance.

The time of your life (57,095)
by Cgee54 from Usa

Every time I hear the song "The time of your life" she did for the Pepsi commercial I always think how would this song be like if it was a complete track. I think Mariah should try to do this type of pop records in her next album, it is fresh and modern in my opinion.

I doubt Mariah would want to do a duet with The Weekend because Ariana Grande already did a song with him. I doubt she wants the GP to compare the two songs, too much drama for a song. Shame because I believe both would do a hell of a song.

I doubt this collaboration will ever happen since he already did a song with Ariana Grande. I don't think she would want her song compared to Grande. Also she loves being the first so again I don't see it happening which is sad.

Remix (55,836)
by Cgee54 from Usa

I suspect that Bieber's verse was actually meant for Mariah to sing because he came last and jumped in the song. Do I hate the song, no but do I like it, so so. Mariah's issue is that everyone expects her to do music the way she did and realistically I don't think that's possible because how the music scene has changed. Yet I suspect if she did go back to the old way of doing things she will still be bashed.

So sad (55,290)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|
|
If rumors are true it seems like Mariah is not recording a new album after Vegas if she even get through it. It's sad she deserves happiness but I think she needs to finish Vegas, period. I honestly think Mariah needs to record a new pop album soon, ageism is real. Unless she's planning to record standards and jazz then I get it, but I'm sure she's not.

When life gives you lemons make lemonade (54,373)
by Cgee54 from Usa

Why are we fooling ourselves? Infinity is not the hit we all where waiting for. #Beautiful was a potential hit and I'm so sad it wasn't supported the way it should have. I mean come on do we expect Sony to spend serious money on a single that came from a compilation album? I would be extremely worried if it was a full length album and it's getting this type of treatment. Mariah should realize that she can do things with Sony now that she couldn't do before like releasing albums cuts like the crave song, and other songs that got cut. She can even release the famous demo cd along with a remastered version of her first album. Instead of being mad she should capitalize on everything she can.

Mariah needs a new direction (53,922)
by Cgee54 from Usa
| |
|

I really hope Mariah breaks the mold for her new album. She needs to reinvent herself once again. She can do something throwback with a modern twist a la Miguel. His latest single Coffee sounds pretty good. I'm sure Mariah would take instrumentals like that and turn them into masterpieces.

Re: B LA (53,529)
by Cgee54 from Usa

|

I disagree. I think LA was being honest and realistic. Elena summarize LA words to some extent, "There is something really wrong with the attitude of the youth from this generation." Look at Kylie Jenner, sadly she represents what teens are doing to legends and icons sleeping on them. The radio is hardly even playing these icons in fear of losing their young core listeners. I for once would love to hear the American book in Mariah voice a la Toni Bennett. It shouldn't be about the hits it should be about making good quality music that will last the one hit wonders.
