Article: Mariah spent Mother's Day weekend in Westchester (106,435)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain
| |
|
|
Focusing on specific things don't help to get the whole picture, the way I see it. Five years ago, I used to get along really well with my mother (that doesn't mean we hadn't had our problems before). Two years later everything changed after several incidents and disputes, and I almost stopped my relationship with her. A friend of mine was shocked when I told her. She just remembered how good my relationship with my mother was and how we used to laugh and joke together. But my friend only saw us together a couple of times. I hadn't told her about the negative aspects or past events either. So it was hard to make my friend understand the whole point (also involving other members of the family = my siblings).
To conclude, what I mean is that I guess I understand Mariah in that regard and I feel identified. However, I can't justify anything because I wasn't there, and I haven't heard Patricia's version either. For sure, it would be very similar to my own mother's. Lol. They wouldn't say anything insulting or despicable about us (Mariah and me, I mean), but they would make you think that we are very "special" individuals and excellent at our work, but, at the same time, kind of difficult to deal with. Lol.

I see it the same way. Why doing a duet for Christmas even on the album with her mum, if she's so bad? It makes no sense at all. Personally I wish they are fine or at least okay.

Sometimes there are two sides of the same coin. I mean, even though Mariah has always given her mother props for her encouragement, there must also have been differences and difficulties in their relationship. At this stage of Mariah's life, her global assessment may incline more to the negative or negligent aspect of Patricia's role as a parent. I'm speaking from experience in this regard.

I'm not buying any of it. You don't record a duet with someone you portray as a bad parent in an interview. When Mariah started her Christmas shows at Beacon Theater, I personally witnessed the strong relationship they had. It wasn't just for show, Tommy wasn't involved, and her mother wasn't even on stage. She was simply there to support Mariah. After the show ended, I saw them hugging and being very affectionate.
Mariah's mother was never depicted as exploiting Mariah for money, yet there's ample evidence of Mariah experiencing severe mental strain, culminating in a nervous breakdown during the "Glitter" era. According to Mariah, she just needed rest - indeed, she needed some 911 rest alright.

TEOM concerts (106,239)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain
| |
|
|
Ok. So if you see this video containing the whole concert from that perspective, you would think that there could be some lipping, but the rest would be mainly live. But if you see all the Mariah videos from the first concert uploaded 7/8 days ago on this channel, you truly can see the real thing happening, that is, she's lipping everything except for 5 specific moments throughout the entire concert. The recordings are so zoomed-in that it is so evident. Besides, sometimes she skips phrases, she starts miming two seconds later or she's just too lazy to pretend to be making an effort on the belting parts. As I said before, at least, we have new high-quality recordings of most of the songs.
To be honest, I became aware of the lipping thing (you know, the lipped parts of some songs) back in 2008. At that moment and after analyzing so many performances, I realized that she had been doing it from 1997 (the belted section of Honey at Top of the Pops, for example). It was a total and complete letdown, and I took my time to process it.
I'm a huge fan and I'll always be. I'll keep following her forever. For sure, she uses lipping for whatever reasons, some of them have been explained or theorized here and I can agree with them, but it is a fact. And right now it has come to a point where almost the whole thing is. Anyway, we love her.

I might be blonde, but after watching a lot if clips on YouTube I don't believe that she lipped like 90 percent of the show. I know this is a little late, after all the fuzz on the board. Peace.

Sorry. I didn't mean for you to go that far. Anyway, it is what it is and that's it (vocally speaking). In fact, after the Circles rehearsal video, I had thought she was preparing for more live vocals. But this is just the next step after the Christmas shows, that is, everything is lipped. However and as I said before, at least there are new pre-recorded renditions of almost everything. It's better than nothing.

I'll always love Mariah, but a grand total of 2 minutes of actual live vocals from a 2 hour show is appalling. Mariah fans love to mock J. Lo, but Mariah herself is no better. I think I'm finally done with her now. There's nothing more to say. Good luck y'all.

She fooled me first with the low resolution videos coming out. I thought wow she really did work hard for these shows and got her voice back. To be fair, it is her current voice - I think it's clear now she's not getting her confidence back to sing them live. Her voice sounds good though. She looked great, not as stiff as her first Christmas shows, she'll only get better on stage. I didn't see enough clips to see how much she was singing live but her 2 mostly live staples VOL and Hero seemed majorly lipped. Still hoping for MC16 sometime soon.

I Don't (105,725)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain
| |
|
|
It's the usual playback: the most demanding parts. In "I Don't": the chorus "'Cause when you love someone, you just don't treat them bad..." and the final belting part. I mean, the parts sung perfectly well. She did a really good job on both occasions and her voice was in a really good condition at that time.
Another impressive performance was VOL at Jimmy Kimmel. By the way, I don't know which "I'm That Chick" performance you're referring to.

No way. Not I Don't too? They both sound completely live. Can you post the last time MC performed 100% live on network TV before The Distance in 2019? I am thinking when she performed I'm That Chick on the Victoria's Secret primetime CBS special. Right?

She even says "Wow" to one belt by JHud. Lol She's not that mean to her after all. Well, seriously, do you think Mariah's vocals are all live? Take a look at 1:37, for example, or the whistles and belts at the end. I don't know. Well, I think I must stop analyzing the performance. Jajaja.

This is just conjecture, but if Mariah focused on J-Hud it may have resulted quickly in her being challenged to "bring it". Concentrating on Ariana was a very safe bet.

Seeing as Mariah doesn't even pretend to lipsync now, she might as well just let Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande to a duet on stage while she watches, claps, and says "I love you" a few times.

All I Live For (103,490)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain

I think it's just a selection of the best different recordings put together, as she usually does to make the final perfect version (I would do too). Take a listen. The first chorus is exactly the same on both except that the 2020 version has one out of every two sentences cut off. The cutting can be heard if you listen closely. Have a try.

The first chorus is different. Mariah sings the whole first chorus in the Extended Version. In The Rarities, basically the background singers do the whole first chorus. Also I noticed that in Extended Version, Mariah's voice is less nasal especially in "nobody's gonna steal my heart away".

Rainbow was bigger than Daydream (102,746)
by BFF from United States

I definitely loved the "Rainbow" era. Mariah seemed to be having fun with the promotion and seemed more relaxed than in previous eras. Out of her #1 singles, I have always felt that "Thank God I Found You" was the most under appreciated - especially the original version. The song probably would have been better as a duet with Joe rather having 98 Degrees on it, but it's still a great slow jam/ballad. "Crybaby" was also a great song that probably should have gotten an official release rather than as the double A-side with "Can't Take that Away". The only song on the album I don't care for is "X-Girlfriend".
I wonder how many of the songs that ended up on "Rainbow" were originally intended for "Glitter". I'm pretty sure I remember Mariah saying that "Heartbreaker" was originally intended for the project when it was called "All That Glitters".

What is this concert I keep see footage from popping up on YouTube, was this recently, or is it from last year?
From what I can hear at least, she is better than Global Cityzen, but still throaty and raspy, and still using the backing tracks we have become custom to. But she seems a bit more confident and happy.
If the concert was from last year, then just forget this message. Then we just have to wait for Mariah's next gig which is not that far away.

I miss albums (102,479)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain

Definitively. I remember at that time my CD player wasn't working. So, after buying the album, I had it at home for 3 days until I was able to get to a friend's home and burn a cassette tape. Imagine my frustration, but, at the same time, the anticipation created up to when I finally got to listen to it.
That process (waiting for the day of the release, going to the store, coming back home, playing the CD over and over) doesn't happen anymore and I do miss it too.

I totally agree with you. Having an album, a theme, the lyrics on a carefully crafted CD insert was simply a pleasant journey. I remember rushing home with the Butterfly CD still unopened in in my hands. The anticipation felt like having butterflies in my stomach, such a surreal moment, at least for me. Since I hadn't listened to anything other than the "Honey Maxi Single", I almost died when "Butterfly" kicked. I miss those days.

Maybe this is wishful thinking but the song that I feel never got a fair shot for how good it is, is [I'll be loving you long time]. It reminds me of a modern day version of [Always be my baby]. I wish we could get just for that song this year and make it a song of the Summer.

While I have little hope of the song ascending to the top 10, I love the Edit Version. Much more radio friendly and, musically, love the bass at the :07 mark and scaling back the instrumental over some lyrical highlights (ex Maury Povich).
I always this song was cute and humorous. I like a light hearted Mariah (cue the chuckle at the end).
