I'm on YouTube waiting for the premiere of the new It's Time video. There's some sci-fi orchestral music playing with graphics and even this is cool. Coupled with the anticipation may end up being cooler than the actual video.

Torn (103,776)
by enwar00 from usa
| |
|
|
I am torn as well. I've seen Mariah every time she's come to Chicago, from Music Box through Caution, and part of me wants to keep the streak going. But I already saw her Christmas show at the Beacon Theater during its second year in 2015, which may have been the best year for it voice wise. Also, ticket prices have become ridiculous post-COVID, so that turns me off and makes me tired of playing that game. Lastly, based on the most recent videos, I'm not sure if it's even worth it. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the Christmas special that aired last year, so maybe she'll pull some miracle and it'll sound good. So, yes, I'm also torn. Perhaps I'll watch last year's show off my DVR early December and decide then.

Torn (103,764)
by C from United States

Wow, I haven't posted here in years. I see some familiar faces still live here. Is anyone else torn on whether or not to go see Mariah in this upcoming run of shows? On the one hand, I want to see her because I've been a lamb for 25 years. With so many stars dying, there is always a scary thought of what if this is your last chance in the back on my head. On the other hand, her performances are just awful and maddening these days. Those shows last year had me so upset and sad for her. I also hate how she waits until October to publicize the shows. Why not tell us in July or August so that people can get their coins and travel set ahead of time? It's inconsiderate considering that the shows are in the midst of 2 holidays. I had to ask myself could I justify paying up to $1,000 for a front row seat (I'm too old of a lamb to sit in the back) just to hear her sing flat, and lipsynch the same old songs in the same old arrangement? Yet... a part of me still longs to go just for the merch and the chance to be seen by her.

Bobby-A: what have I told you about thinking? Don't to it to yourself. But here you may be right.
I predict Last Christmas will do very well this year on the back of the Wham anniversary and Netflix documentary - which I recommend to any and everyone.
Personally, I hitherto never clicked with the song . But I now love it because of nostalgia and a renewed love of George Michael - who I once met. Not sure if I've ever mentioned that.

Haha it's funny because the past couple weeks I've been listening to my Seduction album that they made just before they hooked up with Mimi. To be honest I never realized she held Music Box this dearly to her. Thought she thought it was too basic or something. Then was almost thinking this is getting such a better treatment with the re-release because it's her highest seller. I guess I may be wrong.

by Jamie from UK

|

I'm getting really excited now for Saturday. I've been playing Music Box non stop, but that's nothing new for me.
I was just thinking and wishing if there were any unreleased songs that collaborated with Clivillés and Cole. I always used to love this side of her in the early days. It was such a shame that David Cole passed so young into Mariah's career as I feel that both David and Robert had a good bond with her.
I love how much Mariah holds Music Box close to her heart and the memories. If only all parties involved could forget the past and get together just one more time. Come on Mariah call Walter, Kelly, Shanrae (if you can find her) and Melonie and let's make some magic.

Mariah's version (103,098)
by enwar00 from usa
| |
|
|
That Love Story acoustic performance is just beautiful, one of my faves, so short and sweet, forgot about it. Can you believe that was 15 years ago? That was a long time ago. I feel like a different person. Looking back now, an acoustic remake album would've been super cool. And she was still in her 30s. Now she's in her 50s. That's a big difference. Maybe her voice just wasn't meant to last. Maybe she's just enjoying her life and kids and hundreds of millions of dollars now. Personally I'm bored of the Christmas stuff. I loved Caution. I guess that was the last album. I'll go play it now. Never say never. Bye.

Mariah's version (103,092)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah is definitely not in a good place vocally to accomplish what Taylor is doing while she's still super popular. She should've done something like that back in 2010-2013, but I guess that ship has sailed. This is just beautiful. Had she re-worked some of her hits around this time, she would've come out a winner. Sadly, Mariah can't sing two words straight these days. It is sad, but evidenced by her last performance, it is true.

Remember when Mariah performed It's a Wrap live on the George Lopez Tonight show? Rewatching it now, Mariah killed it. She was still on fire in 2009 and 2010. I remember being blown away during the Angels Advocate show, thinking she sounded better than during the Adventures of Mimi tour. And of course MCIIY came later that year, which I love the vocals on as well as the Christmas special she did while pregnant. Maybe it is the booze.

Wow Edward, that's insane. I think Christmas Eve and Day are the only 2 out of the 7 days that make up this chart week that the song benefited from, so for it to stay at #1 just based on that is crazy to me. I guess those monstrous streaming numbers that AIWFCIY is able to pull, breaking daily records on Spotify and elsewhere 28 years after it was released, are just that monstrous. Honestly even if it doesn't stay at #1, congrats and hats off to Mariah for still breaking records this far into her unparalleled career.

So my dahling friend and fellow lamb Chris sent me this beautiful live performance of The Star from 2018. She sounds amazing to me, almost unbelievable how different she sounded just 4 years ago. It is not a coincidence that this chapter of her career is turning out to be another huge one, and she's just getting started. Every year, the song gets bigger and bigger.
It's because when you strip out the melisma and all that vocal acrobatics that many lambs adore, but many in the public actually despise, the true magic is revealed: the music.
We get to focus on the music. It's always been about the music and enjoying everything about it, I can go to a Mariah show, and enjoy just that, in whatever form Mariah's voice is in, does not make her any less than, or enjoy the show any less.
AIWFIY is on its path for Song of the Decade.

Matty that's awesome to hear. So glad you and your friends had that experience, thank you for sharing. Magical is such a perfect word to describe it all. I've been stuck at home with COVID this past week (blessed and lucky with very mild symptoms) but it gave me time to decorate for Christmas. Merry Christmas and MCIIY have been the soundtracks, and I really feel something magical that comes through, something extra special from the rest of her amazing catalogue. About to put on the All I Want For Christmas Is You movie and keep working on the tree.
