Grammys, who cares? (91,414) by Stacey from USA Are we really surprised she was shut out? Daydream was denied, having the top single of the year (OSD). Fantasy debuts at #1. Then comes along TOEM ten years later, and she has the top single again (WBT), #1 selling album of 2005, and is denied again. Oh sure she won three awards in the R&B categories, but ones that weren't even televised. This after a much publicized breakdown, subpar sales of Charmbracelet, many counted MC out. She came back with a bang. And now she has the chance to get another #1 hit 25 years after its release. MC is pure talent. But she doesn't play the game to get the nods, doesn't play politics to get the nominations. Who cares about the Grammys? Her numbers and accomplishments (see Billboard's article) don't lie. But like any album that doesn't grab me as a whole, there are always songs she wrote that make me glad she released it. Heartbreaker is pure gold. CTTA wasn't a favorite until I attended the final night of her CB tour in Southern California. I was going through some stuff and that song just resonated with me and has remained a favorite ever since. The remix edit with David Morales is great. I like After Tonight. Typical ballad, nothing special, but still on my playlist. Petals is just sad. Man, this girl has gone through a lot and is still standing. Anyways, Carey on. (Tuesday 5 November 2019; 19:12)

I love how raw it is. I love that we have it after 25 years of wondering. Is it perfect? No. Are there better performances of the song AIWFCIY out there? Yes. (See her duet with Michael Buble. Probably my all-time favorite live performance of that song.) All that is irrelevant. I'm a "do what feels right" kind of girl. If you love the CD, great. If you wished for more, great. Listen to OTR then listen to OSD. Mariah and the Boyz are singing into the stratosphere, pure talent. Little Nas X is doing what? Speaking words as he rides a horse down the street? I'm sorry, but it's just sad this song to me anyone could do and score a number one hit. Could any singer out there match MC's talent? There's your answer right there. (Saturday 27 July 2019; 10:02)

I preferred such self help songs as Make It Happen or Hero. That all changed in 2003. I was at the final show of her CB tour in Southern California. Sat 15 rows back, dead center. The fans voted CTTA be sung that night. I was going through some stuff crap and the message of that song resonated with me like it never had before. So while I've gone back to not listening to the song as much, I can see why others like it. Actually I find myself listening to the Morales radio edit. The slower version tends to put me to sleep. Regardless Rainbow has its place in Mariah's evolution as an artist and I'm grateful she released it. While it's not one of my favorite albums, there are songs from that album I love (Heartbreaker, CTTA, After Tonight, Crybaby (an underrated gem), Petals). I think she wanted out of Sony so bad that when the Glitter project got delayed, and she had a bunch of songs recorded for it, she saw an opportunity to get another album out quicker than later, and end her run at Sony.
