My bad. I thought the new charts are released on Tuesday. Is it Wednesday now? This whole thing of calculating chart numbers and the day new charts are released is so confusing to me. Lol.

General public or bad decisions (105,624)
by Bobby A from United States

MC lost her magic when she stopped collaborating with Walter A. She might have 26 #1 songs now if the two never stopped collaborating. That was a bad decision she has paid dearly for.

General public or bad decisions (105,612)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I'm sat here and a thought came into my head regarding Mariah and her career. For the majority of the 1990's Mariah could do no wrong, she was America's sweetheart and had countless number one songs and albums. People took her into their hearts and adored her. From 1997 she made what some call a drastic change in musical direction and lost some of her core fanbase as a result. However she continued to have number one songs and albums even through a difficult time with Sony and Tommy Mottola. Why was it then that during her most difficult time in her life in 2001 did people turn their backs on her? Surely someone who they had grown to love had spent so long adoring her and buying her music would want to support her during this difficult time. Glitter and Charmbracelet failed to sell anywhere near what she would normally sell. My point is, is it the general public who turn on an artist so quickly, is it the music industry and media that set current trends what is a hit and what the people want or is it bad decisions made by Mariah the artist. For me it's just difficult to understand how such a quick switch in popularity can happen with someone who was literally a force of nature at one point. Firstly I don't think the whole Glitter film helped her persona one bit, 9/11 didn't help but the film just wasn't good enough 9/11 or not. The album or soundtrack is great but in hindsight should it have been left on the shelf once the film tanked to help control the damage from the film and save her also having a music flop too which was unheard of at the time. Would her next album then have been more well received by the public. For me I like Charmbracelet but it feels almost like a complete different body of work to the rest of her catalogue (present and past included) the whole vibe is just different. Were bad decisions made by Mariah creatively should she have come back with an upbeat track ala Fantasy/Honey mode and had less rappers on the album, it would be interesting to see if the Glitter album hadn't been released and she had come back with a stronger album (maybe a combination of Glitter tracks and new ones and called it something else) how her popularity would have been at that time and now. Or had the public already turned their backs on her and changed their view of her as a person. Obviously we had Emancipation but that was very short lived, and since then with the exception of Touch My Body and Christmas she hasn't got anywhere near the popularity she should have had. Do you think the general public just doesn't warm to her anymore, is it Mariah's decisions of music creativity or the way her persona has come across post 2001, or do you think it's the music industry making wrong decisions for her career? We can't change what happens but sometimes it's interesting to put a different spin on how we think things could have gone or been. Would love to hear your views and where you think things went wrong or could have been different for her.

We don't know. It's going to be very very close. The remix should have more points than the original for her to get credit. Both versions together, it is at no.11 and went +49%. Assuming the original dropped like it did last week, then the remix portion of that should be more than 50% already, giving Mariah credit at this point already. There is no way the original went up after the remix is released, unless there is some shady stuff going on behind the scenes. The 3 new remixes released by Ariana's team complicates it slightly, but it's not doing any numbers currently.

It just occured to me (105,597)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
It just occurred to me that it was very odd for MC to announce a Vegas resudency in the midst of recording a new album. 90s Mariah would have finished her album, released the first single and then done a residency. Something doesn't seem right after what she has talked about working on for the past 3 years. I am just saying, but what if she doesn't release MC16 this year. The business mind of MC seems to be out of alignment due to something that we are not privy to concerning her voice. Maybe I am wrong and I not really going to be patiently waiting this year.

I do not follow the herd mentality. It's perfectly fine if 99 percent of people love the "Yes, And?" remix. I've always advocated for people expressing their opinions here, even if they differ from my own. I will respectfully express my views, even if they diverge from the prevailing consensus.

While you may not be a fashion expert, you still hold opinions on fashion, just as others may have opinions on medical matters. As I mentioned, these are simply opinions. While I might disagree with your opinion, I would never discourage you from expressing it.
One need not be an expert to recognize when Mariah doesn't look great in certain outfits, just as one need not be a doctor to sense when something is amiss health-wise with someone. Speculation is something we can all engage in, regardless of our expertise.

Both versions of the song are considered as one for charting purposes, with only the most popular version being displayed on the charts. This was the case with the Big Energy Remix; while it certainly boosted the original track's visibility, it didn't surpass its popularity. Consequently, Mariah's version didn't appear on the charts. It's not that she wasn't credited, she was, but the version she was credited for wasn't the most popular one.

Great post Jamie. At this point, I hope she gives us MC16. I would accept MIAM vocals and be happy. Her vocal decline is too far gone now that I think surgery on her nodules would not help at this point. Can she give us Fantasy type of vocals? Probably not. Will she be able to give us TMB or #Beautiful type of vocals? I think she will be able to that. TCOM Vegas shows will let us know the type vocals we can expect. However, I feel the shows will be 70% lipped to a backing track.

Yes, And, I Don't (105,563)
by Jamie from UK

I think this track is what it is, I like the song. I liked it when it was just Ariana. Having Mariah on it now singing up beat is music to my ears. Is it Mariah's best performance no, but is it really her worst? I'd rather have this over I Don't any day. I think we need to cut her some slack, she's never gonna blow us away as she once did, she's 54 this year and unfortunately has declining vocals which I'm sure she herself is very well aware of. I was actually quite happy with her vocals on this track, let's be honest we've heard worse over the last few years. For a long time now we've been asking for Mariah to get herself together, she's finally started to clean up her act, her public presence and persona is back up to where it should be, her PR is back to where it should be and she's getting lots of attention and respect from fellow artists. Yet we continue to dissect everything she does and bash her when she finally does something positive. I would love Mariah to have her full 90's vocals back and to some degree her personality, but unfortunately it's not gonna happen. Vocal decline has happened for various reasons and she suffered a major breakdown which has changed her as it would. Not forgetting she's been living this famous life for a long time now and as much as stars say they haven't changed. They always do over time one way or another, hey non famous people change over time believe it or not. Nobody is the same or doing the same things as they once did 25 plus years ago. But instead of tearing her down let's give her praise for still being here, making music and gracing us with her presence for nearly 34 years, I'd much rather have her still with us than not. The track isn't that bad and who knows what's in-store for us this year on her solo projects. Let's celebrate Mariah.

I was looking at the current Top 40 Mediabase Chart for radio impressions and the original version is sitting at #13. Is there a chance that the remix and original version will just be counted together for next week's Billboard Hot 100. Or will it have to be calculated like this?

I heard the Yes, And remix the other day. It was their big "new music this week" with a drumroll announcement. Don't be surprised if it gains some traction on radio, especially on the club radio stations.
But expecting it to go to number one is too much to ask. I feel like it was just Mariah returning a favor to Ariana for appearing on stage with her and JHud last Christmas, and nothing more. They seem to enjoy each other and that's great to see.
I just hope Mariah is more consistent with her releases. There is some buzz right now. She should have a follow up in 3 to 4 weeks, the same way that she should have a follow up immediately after BER blew up, and the same way she should have a follow up every Christmas on January.

MC is trying to be young again or be a part of what is hip in today's music industry. Although she has done this collaboration, I don't think MC16 will follow in this direction. I believe she has a plan to get back on the pop charts. We have to trust her on this collaboration. She will make us proud soon. I want to hear that Clark Sisters song so bad.

Self-love and empowerment are better found in lyrics like Hero, Through the Rain, My Saving Grace, Fly Like a Bird and so on. It's a shame the woman who wrote lyrics like those found on Outside, Butterfly, My All, Looking In and Petals now sings about riding a D.

MC will be doing her TCOM talk show promotional rounds here really soon. I sure hope she does more daytime tv interviews than late night. I feel she is more relax on daytime tv than late night tv. I would love for her to join The Talk with Jerry O'Connell and talk about TCOM and the 25th anniversary of the Heartbreaker video. If she does late night tv, I hope she stops by Stephen Colbert's show. Colbert and MC had me laughing so hard the last time she stopped by his show.

Radio seems to be passing on the remix. I have checked other major radio stations' "Recently Played" section today and the remix is not being played. They are still playing the original. These radio programmers know if the remix is played what it would mean for MC. I am afraid it is going to be difficult for MC to ever get back to her 90s heyday radio airplay ruled by today's radio dynamic four of Doja Cat (I can't stand her music), Jack Harlow, Sza, and Taylor Swift.

Yus US Lambs please push this song hard. Arianators are apparently going hard with promo calling the biggest radio stations to play the song. It was played on Z100 which is huge. The Arianators want it to hit #1 so Ariana can have the gift of going #1 side by side with her idol. There have been people who listened to it the first time and didn't like it only to later like it upon further listens, so if it's played on radio and all it'll reach masses.

JLo is out at the Bronx singing CDs at target. Bless her heart her 300m followers weren’t enough, but lol MC and Ariana should totally start selling signed copies to maximize the sales. Side note Taylor Swift has been revealing new bonus tracks here and there and her fans are kinda tired at this point of her capitalizing of them. She sold atleast 3 different versions of Midnights, then all the rereleases and now the new album looks like will have different versions too.

First of all I nearly passed out when Mariah sang on the part where the lyrics are "why do you care whose D I ride" lmao. I think she definitely adds to the songs contrasting Ariana's breathy vocals, with her chesty vocals, she really is saying it with her chest. Also her whistle intro is so powerful and strong. But yes on first listen am I blown away? No unfortunately probably because I wasn't instantly taken by the original either haha but I think it'll take a few listens. Mariah's singing reminded me of her Morales remixes. I hope to see some great promo for this I know Ariana's team will do that but Mariah's team also needs to be proactive and not reactive. We should keep supporting because this could be the easiest way to get a top 10. Side not, is it just me or does Mariah's verse doesn't make much sense to my, like the lyrics? First time it ever happened to me on a Mariah song haha. Or maybe I'm just not understanding how it fits?

I really don't hear autotune being used. It is just her true alto voice shining through. If you noticed on the "baby you" lyric her alto tone shines through. During the Charmbracelet era she would have given us a breathy tone on that lyric. Her voice has just changed so much that she has lost an octave or two making her alto range shine through more.

by Lee from UK

I don't hate the remix but there are three things that surprise me. The first is that this song sounds very much like a Madonna song and I never in a million years thought Mariah would go there. Secondly, why did Mariah not try and blend in with Ariana's vocals (in the same way Brandy did on The Roof), it would have been more pleasing to the ear. Mariah's shouty adlibs could have been better executed and more melodic. Finally, Mariah needs to lay off the auto tune, it's not even subtle. This remix feels rushed and I would be even more surprised if it reached #1.

Ok we must be brain twins because that's literally what I posted a few posts down. I have a feeling it's WBT included somehow because of that leaked snippet of Ariana singing the lyrics to WBT over a different beat, then the rumors about Mariah reworking one of her famous #1's and then finally Mariah posting on TikTok singing WBT just a few hours after Ariana announced the remix.

Why do I feel WBT is a part of the remix?

Yus. Also all things aside this will be one of her more significant collaborations. Most of her collaborations in recent times are with artists who are new or up and coming. This is with someone who is well established. I hope both their teams push it and give it a fair chance. The fact that a video is likely already made is promising enough. Ariana has great video concepts (aka Thank You, Next) and great visuals too so I'm excited to see what they came up with.

True. I think this collaboration is the one that will receive substantial radio airplay. I am excited to hear it on the morning radio shows tomorrow. The remix is like 3 minutes and 25 seconds. That is perfect for radio airplay.

True, musically it's more Gaga and Madonna, but I think we'll be surprised. Mariah doesn't commit to projects she's not feeling. She must have seen potential in order to do it. And like you said we forget Mariah has been doing dance remixes with Morales and others since the 90s. While I understand some Ariantors may have wanted others, I think a lot of them will support because Ariana is so inspired by Mariah and this is her dream come true.
